Once the cab was packed with everything that I needed, Ryan gave the driver directions to his house. I clung to his hand. Relieved as the hospital faded into the background as we drove away.
The curtains twitched as the cab pulled into the drive. I was eager to see the family again. Missing them deeply since I had been in the hospital. Ryan had kept me up to date about how they were all doing, but it just didn’t feel the same as seeing them in person.
As soon as the driver had left, the doors to the house were flung wide. Everyone running to me with hugs and kisses. The men taking my things inside while Ryan carried me in his arms. He settled me on the couch in front of the roaring fire. One of the young girls circled the room, a tray of drinks in her hand. Taking one of the glasses of wine, I looked up at Ryan as he stood proudly before everyone gathered.
“I would like to make a toast. To my beautiful bride Amy. To welcome her into the family home. Soon I hope to be my wife,” he announced with a huge smile.
Everyone cheered. Glasses clinking against each other before we all took a drink. It felt wonderful to be here. Not only was I now with the man of my dreams, I had been welcomed into his family too. Thoughts of Wayne were far from my mind. I wanted nothing to spoil this new life that I had discovered.
