Ynya stood, planning on grabbing her small pack and continuing the slog through the snow, but her head swam and her exhausted legs gave out.
“Ynya!”
Meki yelling her name was the last thing she remembered before the world blacked out.
Ynya woke.
Her normal dreams of her mother hadn’t come this time. In fact, the only dream she had was of four figures trudging through the snow in an endless quest.
She looked around, finding herself in a small hut. Thatched roof supported by rough timbers above her told her the girls must have brought her to the near village, despite her reticence.
Despite the small cottage, it was light enough in here that she could see fairly clearly. A handful of pots hung from the rafters along with an assortment of kitchen utensils.
She tried to sit up, but a hand on her chest held[ Re-do Patricks’ chapters to hint at his shapeshifting abilities more.] her down.
“Oh no, miss. You’re not supposed to move.” It was a male voice, deep and slow.
A male voice attached to a hairy male arm that touched her chest!
Ynya recoiled as her mind raced.
Where was she? Was she dreaming? Had her sisters abandoned her? What was going on?
Two strong, warm hands grabbed her shoulders. “Miss, please. My sister will be back soon. I’m supposed to watch you and keep you here.”
“Where are my sisters? Who are you? Please take your hands off me!”
Ynya’s voice was shrill and high-pitched, and the sudden rush of shock quickened her heart and lungs enough to send her into a coughing fit.
She bent over, trying to cough off the side of the small bed. The dirt floor was lined with straw, and she coughed up more blood onto it. After a few wracks, her lungs calmed down and she sat back up, wiping blood off her mouth.
The man handed her a handkerchief. “For the blood. Sister told me to give to you if you coughed.”

The fire-headed mage must track down her kidnapped sisters and battle the tyrannical Frost Queen in order to keep her sisters safe.
Tom lives in Arizona with his dear wife, four children, and two cats.
