Neither man spoke, but the immediate spike of their emotions filled her. She knew they were uncomfortable with her talking about it. She looked from Carter to Drew and back again. The way they were feeling inadequate and guilty was not okay.
She stood slowly and smiled as both men’s attention was directed at her. Reaching down, she pulled her T-shirt over her head, throwing it to the floor beside her. Reaching up, she unhooked her bra and dropped it beside her shirt. Inserting her fingers in the waistband of her sweatpants, she pushed them and her panties down her legs, stepping out of them carefully and kicking them aside.
She closed her eyes briefly as she fought to calm herself and stand unmoving before them. To be so displayed before them in the light of their living room was difficult. Opening her eyes, she looked at the men she loved and smiled sadly.
Drew looked at her body, taking in the scars of old. He was relieved to see that the newest atrocities Randall had submitted their mate to had already healed. He thanked the magic the Fates had gifted Suzie with that allowed her wolf free so she could be completely healed.
“Look at the scars on my body,” she demanded, her words firm yet gentle.
Both men looked at the road map of scars that ran from Suzie’s collarbone, along the swell of her right breast, and ended at her navel. There was a scar in the soft swell of her left breast just below her nipple and another that ran across her abdomen just above her pubic bone. Her neck and fingers held several burn scars from the silver collar that she had been forced to wear. Their hearts hurt at the agony they knew their mate had suffered and blamed themselves for being unable to protect her as they had promised they always would.
When they looked up at their mate’s face, she was looking at them both calmly, her beautiful, hazel eyes filled with worry. They moved toward her slowly, dropping to their knees in front of her and reaching out to each take one of her hands in theirs.
“I hope that what you see before you doesn’t make you want to turn away from me,” she told them calmly. “If it does, I certainly would understand, but I want you to know that the scars on your bodies do not turn me off. They remind me of how you fought for me.”
“We didn’t fight hard enough,” Drew whispered, leaning against her hip and closing his eyes as he dragged his whiskers across the soft skin of abdomen.
Suzie’s gentle fingers carded through his hair, massaging his scalp lightly as she held him loosely against her. When Carter laid his head against her belly, she had to close her eyes as both of the men’s emotions filled her. She caressed his hair gently before running her fingers through the length of it.
“I love you both,” she whispered. “I want to be with you always.”
“We want that, too, Susannah,” Drew answered softly without hesitation.
“Even with all my scars?” she asked.
“Your scars are not what we see when we look at you,” Carter told her as he leaned back and looked up at her. “All we see is the giving person we love who will give us an amazing future.”
“We see the beautiful mate who makes us finally feel that life is worth living,” Drew added. “We see a kind woman—our woman, who shows us every day what it means to be loved and cared for.”
Suzie smiled and slowly lowered herself before her men until she was kneeling directly in front of them. She touched both of their cheeks tenderly, leaning forward to kiss each man briefly before pulling away and looking at them with determination in her eyes.
“Now you know exactly what I see when I look at both of you,” she told them firmly.
“Drew, what time will Carter get home?” Suzie called to him as she walked into his office and smiled at him sweetly.
“He’ll be home from his shift by four o’clock, baby. Why?” He looked up from his seat at his desk and smiled at her, loving every time he saw her.
“Because I want him here when you examine me.”
Drew stood up and walked around the front of his desk to stand in front of her. “What’s wrong, Suzie? Why do I have to examine you? Are you feeling ill?”
“No. I feel fine.”
“Then why do you want me to examine you, honey?”
“Because I want to make sure I’m okay.”
She reached out and took Drew’s hand in hers, bringing it to her mouth to kiss it gently. She snuggled against his chest as he immediately took her in his embrace.
“Tell me, baby,” he whispered against her temple as she rubbed her face against his.
Suzie was quiet for a moment, squeezing Drew tightly within her embrace. “I need to make sure I’m okay because I want us to have a baby,” she whispered.
Carter. Drew’s happy voice reached out to his triad partner.
What, Drew?
Suzie just came into my office. She wants you to be here before I examine her.
What’s wrong with her?
Nothing. She wants to make sure she’s physically okay so she can carry our cub.
Suzie Q! Carter’s voice boomed through her head, his excitement evident.
Suzie laughed, reaching out to grab Drew’s dark hair and tug on it lightly. “Well, that was fast,” she told him. “Less than one second.”
Suzie, baby. Are you ready to be pregnant?
Carter’s soft question touched her heart. She was filled with the love and happiness he sent to her. She smiled up at Drew as he stood before her, touching her face tenderly.
“Well, as long as Drew says it’s safe. When you get home we can figure it out.” Suzie’s words were soft as she spoke out loud. She wrapped both of her men in the white tendrils of love and devotion that bound them together through their mating link.
My shift is over at three. I’ll be home shortly after.
“Jace and Jackson have arranged for escorts so Suzie and Meeka can go shopping this morning,” Drew told them both. “He asked me to bring you to the main house at ten.” When he saw the worry that immediately filled Suzie’s features, he reached out and touched her lips with his index finger. “You don’t have to worry about money, sweetheart. Carter and I have already talked about this. You need to get clothes and whatever else you need.”
And now that you’ll be pregnant, you’ll need maternity clothes and baby things, too.
“Carter, let’s not get ahead of ourselves,” Suzie warned him. “We don’t know that I’ll be able to conceive. My body might be physically damaged from all the silver.”
Suzie, you shared the vision we saw. What did you see? Carter’s calm voice stopped her from denying what he and Drew knew to be true.
“It’s all a little hazy, but I think I saw me nursing our baby,” Suzie said softly.
“Yes, honey,” Drew agreed. “That’s what we saw, too. But we saw a lot more. Carter and I have been sharing visions since before we brought you home. You’re going to be pregnant very soon, Suzie Q.”
“Yeah?”
Oh, yeah. Carter’s voice growled through their link. So you need to go shopping for yourself and our little one, honey.
“Okay,” Suzie whispered, overwhelmed by their words and the fact that it might actually be possible for them to start their own family.
“There’s no might be in this, Suzie,” Drew told her very seriously. “You will be carrying our cub, and we’re going to have a beautiful family.”
Chapter 23
Drew held Suzie’s hand as they walked into the large living room of the family lodge on Beckett land. It was filled with people, and Drew had to bite back the grin that threatened to escape him when he saw the amount of security that was waiting with all the people that were going shopping with Suzie and Meeka that morning. Jace was certainly not taking any chances with the people of his pack.
Mitchell, Mia, and Dean were sitting on one of the overstuffed couches. Cole and Lucian were standing behind them, their arms folded across their muscled chests as they obviously stood guard over Mia.
Drew’s younger brother Nathaniel and his triad partner Brett stood to
the right of the couch, awaiting Jace’s orders. Drew was proud of the man his brother had become. He was strong and caring, and he took his job as pack enforcer very seriously. Brett was just as committed to the safety of the pack. Drew watched both men silently, unable to keep his concern for his brother’s loneliness from bleeding through his link to his mates.
Suzie took his hand in hers and squeezed it lightly. I’m here, Drew. Her soft voice soothed his worry.
Everything will work out for them, Drew. Carter’s calm voice also helped to reassure him. Your theory that all triad partners will find their mates soon because of Jace and Jackson finding their triad third will apply to your brother and his triad partner as well. We just have to wait for it to happen for them.
Drew nodded and faced the ruling triad, believing that their happiness had created an amazing domino effect. He knew that every triad partnership would be blessed by the Fates. It was just a matter of time.
Laurie and Nikki were standing between their mates, and Drew felt a sense of peace rush through him as he experienced the complete happiness of his alpha and beta. Jace and Jackson had Laurie effectively trapped between them, hugging her carefully.
Alexander and Butler weren’t as gentle in their embrace of their mate Nikki. She was plastered between the two of them, and they were hugging her tightly, something she was obviously happy with.
Meeka stood near the fireplace, watching as her son Eric tugged on Carter’s brother Reece’s hand. The big man looked down at the adorable boy and raised his eyebrow in question. Eric opened his arms and waited patiently until Reece reached down and pulled him up into his arms and held him firmly against his chest as Eric wrapped his hand in the length of Reece’s black hair and tugged on it possessively.
Reece looks much bigger than I remember him being, Suzie whispered in Drew’s mind.
He is. Both men are. Wade is much angrier than he used to be, too. Look at that scowl on his face. Jace told me he’s spoken to them about their connection to Meeka. Your friend certainly has her work cut out for her with those two.
Suzie giggled and looked up at Drew, winking. Drew melted under her happiness.
“Are we all going shopping?” Suzie asked, bringing everyone’s attention to her and Drew as they entered the living room.
Mitchell turned toward his sister and smiled immediately. He walked toward her with long strides and reached out to take her hand in his. When he looked at her, his eyes flashed with surprise as he saw the clarity with which she looked at him.
“Suzie?” he whispered, seeing his sister’s eyes completely back to normal. The beautiful hazel color was clear, as were the flecks of blue that populated them.
Suzie nodded and winked, lifting her index finger to her lips and shushing him. She was rewarded with his wide smile.
“I knew it,” he told her quietly, looking at Drew and smiling.
Drew said nothing. This was Suzie’s secret to share however she chose to reveal it. He watched silently as she walked toward her friend.
“Meeka, you look like you’re doing okay,” she said as she hugged her friend tightly.
“I am,” Meeka whispered. “I haven’t been able to sleep too well though. I’ve been having dreams that are keeping me awake, or they wake me up.”
Suzie laughed softly, just imagining what kind of dreams her friend was having. “I’ll bet they’re hot dreams,” she whispered, leaning away from Meeka and winking at her.
Meeka’s eyebrows rose in surprise then narrowed in speculation. “Are you laughing at me, Susannah?” she asked her, irritation evident in her voice. She gasped suddenly and reached out to grab Suzie’s shoulders. “Can you see me?”
Suzie nodded and let out a grunt of surprise when Meeka grabbed her and hugged her tightly. “Meeka, easy! You’re going to break my ribs!”
Meeka laughed with complete joy. “Yeah, like I could ever hurt you, Miss Wolf Shifter!”
“Yeah, about that,” Suzie began. “I was able to shift into my wolf form yesterday.” Her voice was strong and held the pride she was feeling as she made the announcement to her new pack family.
“That’s great, Suzie,” Jace’s deep voice boomed across the living room. “Congratulations.”
Suzie smiled at her new alpha, feeling a sense of rightness at belonging to his pack. This was where she was meant to be. This man, this powerful alpha, had given Mitchell, Drew, Carter, and their families a safe place to live. He had protected them and welcomed them. Now she was lucky enough to be a part of the wonderful home and the caring people of Beckett’s Pack. The very thought of losing this newfound happiness scared her down to her bones.
She felt her hand being taken and turned to look at the man who belonged to her and owned her heart. She wished Carter was there with them. She needed the connection.
“I’m feeling a little afraid,” Suzie whispered, leaning into Drew’s body and smelling his wonderful scent. It served to calm her somewhat.
“Suzie, you don’t have to be afraid ever again,” he whispered against her temple. “When you get back from shopping, Carter and I are going to take care of you. Maybe the Fates will smile down on us and help us make our baby.”
That sounds like a plan, Drew.
Carter’s growl vibrated through Suzie, sending a thrill of desire through her. Between his deep voice and Drew’s sexy scent, Suzie was lost to them both.
Carter?
What, honey?
I love you.
Oh, sweetheart.
The softness of Carter’s voice touched her heart.
Drew?
Yes, baby?
I love you.
Drew hugged her tightly. He was at a loss for words. The emotions and love that filled him spilled out and surrounded Suzie, pulling her closer to his heart. Carter’s emotions joined his as he held their mate and the white ribbons of their bonding tightened around them.
I’m really enjoying this bonding connection. Suzie’s voice was light and happy as she spoke to her mates. I really like that I can send you my thoughts and feelings.
Do you know what’s really great, Suzie Q? You can see exactly what I want to do to you, Carter told her, his deep voice filling her mind.
His growl of desire echoed in her mind and settled in her heart. She was given the gift of an incredibly erotic picture of him and Drew buried deep within her body and biting down on their mating marks as they filled her with their seed.
Carter, you need to stop that or I won’t be able to get out of the lodge without the whole pack family scenting my need for you.
Her voice was soft as she spoke, but there was a desperation to it as she pleaded with him. Taking a step closer to Drew, she reached out and wrapped her arms around his waist.
Drew smiled as he hugged her to him tightly. We’re going to love you together when you get home from shopping, Suzie Q.
Suzie giggled against his chest, biting down on it lightly and smiling as he growled softly.
Can’t wait, my Drew. Did you hear that, my Carter?
Suzie giggled as she heard Carter’s deep growl. She was really liking this mating link.
“Geez, this is ridiculous,” Mia complained as Cole and Lucian pinned her between them as they walked through the mall. “Do you really need to be this close to me all the time?”
Cole turned to face Mia, taking her hand and turning her toward him. “Mia, we’re trying to give you the time you need to come to terms with our mating, but we’re not able to control our wolves when so many men are looking at you. Please try to understand.”
Mia looked up at him in stunned silence. She turned to look around her and didn’t see anyone looking at her—especially any men.
“You’re delusional,” she told him, pulling her hand from his and taking a step away from him. “No one is looking at me.”
“Yes, Mia. They are,” Lucian spoke up as he stepped closer and put his arm around her waist, holding her tightly. He couldn’t prevent his wolf from surfacing as he
looked at the young man who was staring at their mate from across the mall walkway. Luc’s eyes began to glow golden and a rumble of a growl began to erupt from deep within his chest.
Cole put a cautioning hand on his shoulder. “Careful, Luc,” he warned him.
Mia placed her hand on Luc’s chest, petting him softly as she tried to calm him. Without being aware of it, she did the same to Cole, leaning into both of them as their soft growls turned into contented purrs. She suddenly found her hands covered by warm, gentle hands that held hers tightly and pressed them firmly against their chests. She could feel the beat of their hearts and felt a sudden need to lean into their bodies.
Panic filled her as she realized that she had almost caved in to her need to be close to them. She couldn’t give in. She had to stay strong. She tried to step away and found herself captured between the two of them, and both men were nuzzling against either side of her neck.
“You smell so good, Mia,” Cole told her, his voice low. “You smell like ours.”
“She is ours,” Luc whispered.
Mia pushed out of their arms and took a deep breath to try to calm herself, which did not help the situation. It merely intensified the men’s amazing scents. This was not good. At all.
“Mom,” she called out to her mother, walking to her quickly and stepping between her mother and Nikki as they walked just ahead of her.
Laurie turned and smiled at her daughter. “What, honey?”
“Nothing. I just wanted to walk with you and Aunt Nikki,” Mia told her quickly.
Laurie turned to look at the two men who followed closely behind them. Her eyebrows rose in question as she faced Lucian and Cole.
Both men bowed their heads to her immediately, deferring to their queen. The last thing they needed to do was to anger their future mate’s mother.
Jace, you need to have a talk with Lucian and Cole. Laurie’s voice was firm as she spoke to him.
Why, honey? Jace answered her immediately.
They need to give Mia space. She has to finish college before they try to start a relationship with her.
