Romancing the Alpha Page 23

by Alicia Montgomery

Honestly, Frankie was relieved not to have to worry about wedding planning. She had the groom, the dress, and the ring. That was all she cared about and needed. And, she was way too busy supervising renovations for Muccino’s in Jersey and starting construction on the New York branch that she hardly had time to review place settings and flower arrangements. Besides, it was obvious that her future mother-in-law was having a wonderful time with the wedding planning, and Frankie couldn’t take that away from her.

The day of the wedding finally arrived. Frankie wore her grandmother’s wedding dress, a beautiful tulle and lace concoction with a mermaid skirt, a cinched waist with a silk bow, and pearl buttons running down the back. The cathedral-length veil was a gift from Callista, and she held a beautiful bouquet of orchids and lilies. Each of her brothers took turns walking her down the aisle, first Enzo and Matt, and then they switched with Rafe and Dante before handing her off to Grant. Nick stood beside him as Best Man, while she asked Nonna Gianna to be her Matron of Honor.

“And, should anyone here present know of any reason that this couple should not be joined in holy matrimony,” Archbishop Callaghan said as he neared the end of the wedding ceremony. “Speak now or forever hold your peace.”

There wasn’t even a slight pause when a voice rang out from behind.

  “Grant! No! I love you!”

Vanessa Bennet cam running down the aisle, her eyes glazed over. She was also wearing a full-length wedding gown. “You can’t marry her! You love me.”

“Cazzo!” Frankie rolled her eyes. “Hold this,” she shoved her bouquet at Grant and picked up her skirts, intending to give Vanessa a piece of her mind. Who the hell wears white to another woman’s wedding?

Before Frankie could even began walking towards the aisle, Vanessa let out a pained shriek as a fist connected with her jaw, sending her sprawling to the ground.

“You. Will. Not. Ruin. This. Day!” Callista declared, her voice edged with danger as she rubbed her fist.

Alynna guffawed loudly from her seat on the groom’s side. “Wow. I guess Callista’s not too classy to smack a biatch either.”

“Take this trash out,” Callista barked to the security detail posted by the altar. The two men hurriedly picked up the woman and dragged her away.

“Apologies everyone,” Callista said sweetly to the crowd, who had grown silent. “Your Excellency, if you please,” she nodded to Archbishop Callaghan.

The white-haired priest cleared his throat. “Uhm, yes…alright, well, let’s continue…”

Frankie stared after her future mother-in-law as she composed herself and sat down next to her husband in the front pew. She was both terrified and in awe of Callista Mayfair.

  Epilogue

“Any news yet?” Alynna asked as she stood up and walked over to the desk in the waiting room.

“I’m afraid not, Ma’am,” the young Lycan nurse shook her head.

“Alynna, we’ve only been here an hour and you asked her, like five minutes ago,” Alex said. He handed Mika to her. “Here, I think she wants mommy.”

His wife sighed and took the baby. “Aww, Mika, are you ready? Ready to meet your cousin? I know I’m excited! Are you excited, honey?” She babbled to the baby, tickling her plump, rosy cheeks.

Nick Vrost stood up from where he was sitting, holding his son to his chest. The Beta patted the baby’s back, a towel draped over his shoulder to protect his immaculate Italian-cut suit. Zachary Luther Vrost was born three months prior. He had his father’s hair and nose, and his mother’s indigo blue eyes. Nick and Cady were over the moon, enjoying parenthood despite the sleepless nights and exhaustion.

“Don’t worry, these things take time,” Cady assured them as she put away her nursing cover.

“You just want to win the pot,” Nick smirked at Alynna, referring to the betting pool they had to guess the sex of Frankie and Grant’s baby.

It started innocently enough, when Grant joked to Nick that they should think about arranging their children’s marriage to each other, for the good of the Lycan race, to which Nick replied that they could end up being the same sex. Alynna bet ten dollars that it would be a boy, since she said she wanted Mika married to little Zachary first, while Nick bet it would be a girl, just to tease her. Soon, everyone from Dr. Cross to Frankie’s brothers was putting their bets in.

“It’s like, up to a nine hundred dollars now!” Alynna declared.

“Don’t you have a trust fund with about five times more zeroes than that?” her husband teased.

“It’s not about the money, honey,” she gave him a kiss on the nose.

“Then what is it about?” Alex asked sweetly.

“It’s about proving Nick Vrost wrong,” she said sweetly, eyeing the tall Lycan. “Don’t worry Mika,” she cooed to her baby. “I promise your future father-in-law will be nice to you, not mean like he is to me.”

Nick let out a laugh, then was interrupted by a loud belch as Zachary burped out his lunch.

“Ew, never mind Mika,” Alynna wrinkled her nose. “Maybe we’ll find you a husband with better table manners.”

The door to the side of the waiting room burst open, and Grant rushed through. He pulled his mask down, the smile on his face unmistakable.

“Well?!” Alynna exclaimed. “Is it a boy or a girl?”

  Grant grinned. “Both.”

  “What?”

“Twins. A boy and a girl.” Nick and Alex immediately strode to Grant, hugging and congratulating him. Cady stood up as well and gave her oldest friend a big hug and a kiss on the cheek.

“Alynna, don’t you want to see the babies?” Alex asked as Grant ushered everyone toward the private rooms.

“Yeah, yeah, I’m coming.” She was furiously scrolling on her phone.

“What are you doing?” Grant asked, eyeing his sister.

“I’m checking to see the betting pool on our Facebook group.” She looked at Alex and Nick. “Who bet on boy and girl?”

“Actually,” Cady said. “It was me!”

“You’re so smart, my love,” Nick gave her a kiss on the cheek.

“Aww, crap!” Alynna cursed. “Twins! I should have known! Between her super fertility, your mega-Alpha pheromones, and being True Mates, I’m surprised you didn’t have a litter! ”

“Well, now you have a matching set,” Alex laughed and clapped Grant on the shoulder.

“I think you should name one after me,” Alynna said. “After all, you wouldn’t have met Frankie if it wasn’t for me.”

“Alynna Horace Anderson,” Grant joked. “Sounds like a terrible name.”

“Ugh, let’s just go see your kids,” Alynna grumbled, still obviously sore from losing the bet. “I just hope they didn’t get your ugly mug.”

They all filed into the recovery room, where Frankie was laying in bed, two bundles in her arms.

“Congrats, momma,” Alynna said as she kissed her sister-in-law on the forehead. “You squeezed two out of your vajayjay in one day! I can’t believe it.”

“Uh, it was exhausting,” Frankie smiled. “But so worth it.” She handed one of the bundles to Grant, who took it from her gently, as if he were handling glass. He kissed his son on the cheek.

“Are your brothers coming soon?” Cady inquired as she peered down at the bundle in Grant’s arms.

“Yes,” Grant answered. “Things are a little hectic since Muccino’s opened downtown, but Dante and Enzo are on their way as we speak, while Rafe is driving Nonna Gianna here. Matt should be off work at five and he says he’ll come straight here.”

Frankie had gone into labor so quick, there wasn’t any time to warn everyone. She woke up that morning, feeling tired and sore, and as soon as she stood up, her water broke. It was a good thing that The Enclave’s Medical wing was only in the next building, so Grant carried her there all the way.

The group chatted excitedly and soon, they were joined by Frankie’s family, the din in the room growing louder. Everyone wanted a turn
holding the twins, both of whom had their mother’s eyes, one green and one blue, but mirrored. The couple had yet to decide on names, so everyone was throwing out their suggestions ranging from lovely (“Adriana and Antonio!”) to ridiculous (“No, Alynna, we’re not naming them Fifi Crimefighter and her sidekick, Moxieboy.”)

Grant looked down at Frankie, beaming at her. He sat next to her on the bed, his arm cuddling her close.

“How are you feeling?” he asked, pressing his nose into her hair.

“Tired. But happy.” She moved closer to him. “And you?”

“Ridiculously happy,” he kissed her forehead. He also felt a pang of worry. The stakes were much higher, now that he had a wife and children to protect. But for now, as he was surrounded by the people he loved most, he set his troubles aside and enjoyed the laughter and joy around him.
