Annabelle's Angst: NEW ADULT CONTEMPORARY SUSPENSE ROMANCE Page 18

by Bree Branigan

“Well, you are going to know just how taxing it is really soon.” He smiled and winked. She wondered how he carried so much responsibility with so much suave. He seemed truly excited about it. “But it’s a great life, and I want the group to grow; improve on my father’s legacy.”

“That’s wonderful,” she smiled. He sounds just a little TOO altruistic and nice, she thought to herself.

“And you’ll be helping me with it,” Jason chipped in, “so you will also be responsible for all of this as my assistant.”

“That’s huge!” They both laughed. It was a bit odd why the word huge made them laugh.

The meeting commenced and she was by his side for most of it, taking notes, replying to e-mails, scheduling appointments… all the activities an assistant would do. There was an e-mail she had to forward to the accountant. The figures in it were scary and eye opening at the same time. Here she sat at a table with the wealthiest people in the city, executives of Turner Enterprise, and looked at eight and nine-figure transactions. It was quite an incredible experience! She enjoyed every moment of it, though it was a lot to absorb in one day. Lisa caught on quickly, and she could see that Jason was impressed in the way he looked at her, nodding and smiling.

After the meeting she was shown to her office by Marilyn. It was right next to Jason’s; she had to be close to the boss. A thought sprung in her head as she arranged a few things in her office. Could she just carry on as if nothing had happened? But she really wanted this job! Did she have the strength to resist him? Would he even approach her again? Maybe this morning was her initiation. . . . She knew it shouldn’t happen, again, but the wetness in her pussy was screaming for Jason. Arrogant, cocky as he was, what was it about him?!

Lisa sat down on her desk and tried to do some work; book flights and hotels for his traveling schedule and study to learn as much as she could about the company. It was really big, one of the biggest in the country.

Jason walked in and stood by the door, “Hope you like the office?”

“Yes I do. It’s sensational,” she smiled at him.

“Okay!” he smiled and shut the door.

Some hours passed and half the floor was empty of employees. Lisa looked out the glass window, half expecting to see him. She had almost wrapped up her work for the day, but she wondered if there was still something she needed to work on. She’d always been a bit of a workaholic, and had liked to go the extra mile. even at Johnson &Co. As she finished up, someone rapped briskly on her office door.

“Come in.” Her heart pounded. Was it Jason?

It was Marilyn, smiling, but business-like. “You’ve done enough for one day,” she said kindly. ‘Time to wrap it up! Jason has had to fly to London unexpectedly, but will contact you when he arrives. In the meantime, I’ll work closely with you as you learn all the ins and outs of the company.”

“Thank you, Marilyn,” Lisa managed to say., her voice squeaky. What had she expected? Jason didn’t have to answer to her. And it was for the best, she told herself.

The next week was so filled with things to do and learn Lisa found herself going home each night too exhausted to think. Learning the office systems, dealing with emails, doing background research, working on accounts and budgets was stimulating and challenging. Jason skyped regularly, and she took notes. But he was business-like; distant even. Had their encounter even happened?

When he returned she seriously doubted it! Although she saw him often it was strictly business. His swagger, his arrogance, his all-round over-confident egotism set her teeth on edge, and Lisa wondered what she had ever seen in him. It was definitely for the best, she realized. The last thing she needed was another relationship that would end abruptly, leaving her heart-broken and lost.

Occasionally he had her make dinner reservations for two at swanky restaurants, and once or twice gorgeous, curvaceous women – different ladies each time – were photographed with him, walking arm-in-arm, causing her heart to lurch a little, and her stomach to churn until her mind took over. It’s for the best.

Yet she felt his eyes on her often, and his voice softened when he spoke to her. Once as they entered the board-room his hand on the small of her back had made her almost dizzy with excitement. The way he said her name made it special somehow. He’s just a flirt, she told herself.

  Chapter 8

It was a Friday night, and Lisa was working late, as she often did, when her office door opened. She looked up, and there stood Jason. He was breathing deeply, and his face looked almost white. Her heart skipped a beat.

“What is it? What’s wrong?” she asked, standing, ready to comfort him.

“I can’t do this.” His voice was dull; the life drained out of it.

“What?” she asked, concerned. “What’s wrong?”

“I can’t work with you like this and just pretend.”

Is he going to fire me?! She took a deep breath. She felt paralyzed, her feet rooted to the floor.

“Would you like to see the condo? The view of the city from the balcony is beautiful.” Jason walked to the door.

She thought about it, but not for long, Okay, I’ll just go with the flow and see what happens … But her heart was beating wildly. “I’d love to see the city.”

Jason stretched out his hand, and she placed hers in his. They walked from the office to the lobby and took the elevator. He pressed the button to fortieth floor. The elevator ascended and her thoughts swirled. She remembered his body against hers, and she tried to shove the thought out of her mind. She could not; it lingered through every floor of the elevator ride.

The condo was sparkling, sparsely furnished with a modern styled décor. It was a breath of fresh air; the kind she saw in movies and TV shows. It reminded her of a show she had seen recently about Hollywood stars and their houses.

“Follow me.” Jason said, leading her to the balcony before she could absorb the whole beauty of the living room. “Let’s take a look at the city from here. It’s always breath-taking.” He opened the sliding door to reveal a wide balcony. A gust of warm air caressed her face. It was almost magical.

They walked to the edge of the balcony, and looked out over the lights of the city. It was a magnificent view! Lisa had never seen anything like it. She could feel the pulse of the city; the heartbeat, and it was in sync with hers.

They both stared for a while, neither of them uttering a word. “It’s beautiful isn’t it?” Jason said, staring at the city scape.

“Yes it is,” she smiled. It really was beautiful.

Jason held her hand and squeezed it. She squeezed his hand back and looked at him, holding his gaze. He was no longer staring at the city. They looked lovingly at each other for what seemed like forever. He bent to kiss her, and it was as if time transcended. She forgot any inhibitions she’d previously had. There was no time, no boundaries. The wind caressed both of them while they kissed, as if begging to join them. “The wind wants to make love,” she thought and laughed inside.

Lisa felt lost in time, clueless as to how they’d ended up in the bedroom. A large king sized bed stood under a large Willem de Kooning painting, giving life to the white wall. That painting must have cost a fortune! But she quickly forgot all about it. The windows were opened, fresh air filling the room as they made love.

He lay beside her, gazing at her intently, caressing her hair, grazing her cheek with his fingers that trailed down the hollow of her throat and between her breasts. Her skin tingled and her eyes fluttered closed as his hands explored her body. She felt beautiful and cherished.

“Oh my god, Jason,”. Her voice came in whispery breaths. Holding onto him she wordlessly urged him to take her, to touch every part of her. He kissed her neck, nibbling on her flesh as her heart raced and her breathing slowed. She felt every touch from him as he moved his lips from her neck down to her breasts; sucking them as if his life depended on it, giving her absolute delight.

One of his fingers slid into her wet pussy, tickling her clitori
s. She closed her eyes feeling every touch, trying to make sense of it, but it was like hundreds of darts penetrating every part of her. Goose bumps covered her body as he explored her vagina, stroking her clitoris and the upper walls of her pussy, sending jolts of pleasure through her. Her pussy dripped, pleading to be penetrated. She grabbed his ass as he kept kissing her breasts, making love to them.

He then came back up to her lips, kissing them passionately as he continued exploring her pussy with his fingers. She closed her eyes taking it all in, enjoying each moment, riveted in the ecstasy. His lips were sweet, a bit of sugar and spice mixed into an exciting cocktail.

Suddenly she felt him slide into her, and her senses exploded; a pastiche of colours played in her head as she closed her eyes. She could feel his every move inside her; his dick was deep inside her and as he moved. It was as if she was continuously gored by jolts of desire. Every moment was magical. He stroked faster and she exploded in a corrugated mash of feelings, love, hate, passion, anger, joy, excitement, fear, courage, doom, freedom, hope… It was both confusing and exhilarating at the same time.

“Jason,” she called his name. She wanted to scream his name at the top of her voice; blow a trumpet with his name! “Jason!” The name sounded oddly perfect, “Jason.”

Their bodies were intertwined. Her pussy urged his dick, demanding more. She wanted more and she got more, and wanted even more. She could feel his strength, his manliness, his courage, his power with every stroke of his dick. She grabbed his ass as she neared a point she could not explain.

In a loud explosion that played in her head she climaxed. It was at that absolutely beautiful place where everything was perfect. Jason’s sperm flowed into her as he shivered in pleasure, pouring into her. Their fluids were one, swimming with each other, flowing in one place.

Everything felt complete. They held on to each other, not thinking of the next day or the next moment. Not thinking how they were going to define what was happening between them. Not thinking of whether or not this was going to lead somewhere; to a relationship, a passionate dangerous affair . . . She had no idea what it was or would be, but at that very moment everything was perfect.

  *

Jason stared at her beautiful face as she smiled. He was a bit confused about what was happening, or what he should do next. He knew one thing that haunted and scared him. He wanted to be with Lisa Hall, but it was never going to be easy. She worked for him. He was a billionaire; head of a large conglomerate. Certain things were expected from him, but did he really care?

At the moment he was in paradise. No one had ever made him feel the way Lisa made him feel. And he was used to getting what he wanted in life . . .

  THE END

  Midnight Trysts

  Chapter 1

The refreshing night breeze brushed Kevin Potter’s face as he watched distant stars twinkling in the sky. It soothed him. At least for the moment. Staring into the glittering water, listening to trees rustle around him, he lay back in the lounge chair and sighed. Life would go on. He would be happy again. Time healed …

Kevin had taken a two-week vacation from his job as an architect at Giorgio’s, a large construction company, because he was unable to cope with the trauma of his recent breakup. It happened, he knew. But he just couldn’t come to terms with the fact that Ella had left him for another man.

The cottage he’d rented sat atop a small hill overlooking the harbor, far from the noise and neon lights of the city. The sound of the waves crashing into shore resounded in the stillness of the night. It was an ideal place to rejuvenate his dying soul.

What was wrong with him? Why had Ella chosen Rod? He stood outside the cottage contemplating.

Kevin shook his head to erase the ego-damaging thoughts rampaging through his brain. Standing, stretching he set off at a jog along the length of the isolated beach. He had run out of beer and some toiletries. He would buy some during his evening run. It was half a mile before he saw a grocery store.

The woman at the check-out counter was all smiles as she handed him his purchases. “You’re new in town, right?” she inquired politely.

“Yeah,” he grinned back, “Just spending a short vacation here.”

The amiable lady nodded, “Enjoy your stay.”

  “Thank you.”

Sitting back at his cottage by a lonely camp-fire, Kevin drank three bottles of beer before calling it a night. He was still feeling melancholic and lonely. He should have bought something stronger, he thought. The beer didn’t wash away his heartache. When he finally drifted off to sleep it was with a heavy heart.

  Chapter 2

The dull ache persisted when he woke up the next day. Changing into his jogging pants, he decided to jog along the coastal road to tour the area.

He ran at a leisurely pace along the road when a flash of yellow raced passed him. Blackness. The next thing he knew he was soggy, and his hair was dripping wet as he stood in the middle of the road. Where had all the water come from? He noticed that there were no other cars in the area. “What the hell?” he cursed under his breath.

I’d better go home and shower, he decided, confused. Walking more slowly, he wandered back to his cottage, shivering as a breeze skimmed his wet body. Back in his cottage, he threw off his wet clothing, and had a hot shower, toweled dry, and wrapped a dry towel around his waist

The day seemed endless. He passed it restlessly, reading and rereading pages in his novel, watching TV while his mind wandered. He scrounged up a meal of ham and eggs without any appetite.

Later that evening Kevin still felt agitated. Sleep evaded him. He sighed in desperation. Maybe a night walk would allow him to relax. He took a path to the promenade by the sea. The pathway was well lighted and he had no trouble skirting his way toward it. Removing his shoes and socks he ran through the fine, gray sand. His feet relished the soft abrasiveness of it, and he inhaled the brackish air deeply. Suddenly a movement caught his eye. Something white and flowing was moving towards him. A ghost? He watched with bated breath as the image moved closer.

The ‘ghost’ turned out to be a lovely, voluptuous woman - all in white – her figure outlined in the shadows of the night. Kevin remained motionless as the woman slid her body seamlessly out of her white robe and stood in all her naked glory, just a few feet away from him. Apparently, she had not seen him.

She strode to the water, her breasts erect and proud, and her long, creamy legs illuminated in the darkness before she splashed into the water. What was she doing? Kevin wondered. Surely, she wasn’t committing suicide? God forbid!

While Kevin watched the woman swim, he felt guilty. He was no different than a peeping Tom. He turned around and slowly walked towards his cottage. Before he did, though, he saw the woman caress her breasts, her head raised upwards in wanton abandon. It was an image etched in the moonlight that left him sleepless until the wee hours of dawn.

Who was she? She must be renting the next cottage, a block away from him, he concluded. He’d noticed lights shining through the windows of it.

When Kevin finally fell asleep, he dreamt of the woman. Her face became more vivid in his sleep; heart-shaped lips, small, pointed nose and soulful eyes that seemed to reach out to him; her long, black hair flowing below her shoulders. She was a beauty.

In his dream she spoke to him. “You’re from here?” Her voice was angelic; musical.

“No, I’m on vacation, and you?” he countered.

  “Same here.”

“Nursing a broken heart, perhaps?” he asked, curious.

“Hmmm, I invoke my right to remain silent on the grounds that it might incriminate me,” she chuckled.

“You’re a lawyer?” He hooted, amused at her joke.

“Is it obvious?” they laughed together.

Kevin woke up with a start. It was only a dream! It was so vivid and real. He had to meet her. This woman. For the first time in weeks, he felt alive.

  Chapter 3

  Kevin dressed casually in jea
ns and a t-shirt. Inspecting himself in the mirror. He took some pride in his trim, muscular body, and the new tan that set off his brilliant blue eyes. He felt renewed faith in himself. He could approach her.

He wandered on the empty beach alone, hoping to catch a glimpse of the woman, but the day wore on and he hadn’t seen a shadow of her. Was she only a figment of his fertile imagination? He went back to the cottage feeling frustrated. She must be a night person. I’ll come back tonight, he thought.

  And he did.

It was midnight when he stepped out of his cottage in search of her.

She was there as he expected, swimming naked, her pale skin aglow in the moonlight. He watched from the shadows, his eyes locked on her curvaceous, white body as she waded in knee deep water. He took a step forward, and then another as he approached her, seemingly hypnotized by her image. He was now in her line of sight, but she didn’t blink an eye.

I think she likes me, Kevin smiled to himself. This emboldened him to continue his approach. His manhood had become tumescent and it was aching beneath his jeans, longing to be caressed.

Kevin was a short distance away from her when she cupped her breasts, daintily. He stopped; surprised. Was she seducing him?

He couldn’t hold back. With a gasp of urgency, he moved to stand behind her. He covered her long, slim hands with his own large ones, moving with her as she continued fondling her soft breasts. He expected her to push him away, but she didn’t. Instead, she gave out a wild moan and closed her eyes, leaning her body backward into his.
