Lightning Books
Lightning Books is a new way for authors and publishers to work together. The publishing industry has changed, and unknown authors find it hard to get a hearing, let alone a publishing deal.
Our company has responded to this challenge by giving publishers a new way of nurturing new talent, and giving authors a chance to succeed. Lightning Books is founded on an equal relationship between author and publisher. We work equally hard. We take equal risks and share equal rewards. We are collaborators. We are co-publishers.
Our small team collectively has over 50 years’ experience covering every aspect of publishing – from editorial, design and production to marketing and global sales. We put our experience to work as we work. For our authors. For ourselves. For each other. Lightning Books publishes novels with cracking endings. If you’ve written one, then why not submit it to us to see if together we can introduce your manuscript to the audience it deserves?

A New Concept
This is a new concept for getting good books into readers’ hands. It allows you to try 90% of a book for free. It allows you to share this 90% with whoever you like and as many times as you like. It also allows authors and publishers to ask, having offered 90% for free, that readers who buy the book pay the price set by the publisher.
Competing on price is healthy but only until it compromises quality. With low-cost products, the people who produce the goods end up having to cut corners, which often impacts on parts of the creative process. It is the detail in these processes that can often add real value to what is being published. Without these, the reader’s experience can be compromised.
We want to be able to invest fully in the process to produce books that stand the 90pcfree test and which people are then willing to pay a fair price for. While there are books being sold at 99 pence, this is difficult to do.
We want to live in a world where there are books worth paying more than 99p for. Go for 90pcfree.com, not 99p.
Look out for 90pcfree
The logo and logo bar at the top of the page are the way to recognise being able to get 90% of a book downloaded and shared for free.
The logo bar will not only house the logo, but will give the title of the book (top left), the publisher (top right), the website from where you can download 90% free (bottom left), and the publication date of the full version of the book (bottom right). The barcode in the centre is the barcode and isbn of the full version of the book.
With thanks
It always amazes us at Lightning Books just how many people – each with different skills and many years of experience in their field – are involved in publishing a book. They rarely get any mention, as for instance those involved in films do.
In a world where value often drives purchasing decisions, we feel that by showing those involved we are not only recognising them but also demonstrating the real value that the book holds.
