His cock was full and aching. He turned onto his side which only made him more uncomfortable, so he flung himself onto his back and kicked his covers off. Shifting made most werewolves frisky, but having been surrounded by Mary’s scent most of the night, he was a fully aroused male.
“Damn you!” He grunted grabbing his shaft in his hands. He began a strong steady rhythm. It felt good, but his body should be more primed to go than this. It wasn’t until he closed his eyes and pictured Mary naked on his bed that his cock responded.
He imagined kissing her sweet lips. She had dimples that he would lick and nibble. He pictured kissing his way down her delicate throat. He would nuzzle the spot between her neck and her shoulder.
He could almost hear her breath hitch when he took her nipple in his mouth. He would suckle her making sure to give both breasts attention, and then he would grab her delicate tip in his teeth, tugging her.
While his mouth was busy lavishing her breasts, his fingers would trail down her softly rounded stomach. At her apex he would caress her mound. He would use his own hips to wedge his way between her thighs. He would gently run his fingers up and down her delicate pink seam until her juices coated him, and tease her clit making her moan with need.
Ric growled as his hand quickened on his dick. Everything male in him longed to dominate her; to make her submit to him. He could see her now as he put his cockhead at her entrance. He would bury himself deep into her to the hilt, no holding back.
He longed for her nails to dig into his back leaving her marks on him. He would take her over and over even after she’d orgasmed. He didn’t plan to let her up until he owned her body and soul.
“Fuck!” Ric squeezed his flesh and came hard. He didn’t think he would ever stop shooting out his semen. After wiping himself clean, he got up and put his sheets in the laundry. He would make sure to do this load himself otherwise the other females in the house would smell what he had been up to. Mary unsettled him. He wasn’t sure he liked that. Damn woman was going to kill him.
Distance was what was needed here. He couldn’t let things progress to what his fantasies were. He had a werewolf community that he was obligated to help prosper. Frustrated with the reality of his situation he fell into a restless sleep.
Chapter 4
“Are you sure I look okay?” Mary asked her son Connor for the fifth time.
“Yeah, you look great. I don’t think I’ve seen you wear that dress before. Is it new?”
“Jackie made me buy it when we went shopping for a birthday dress for Samantha to wear tonight.” Mary was nervous as she ran her hand down the sides of her pale blue summer dress. It was still conservative; she just wasn’t used to having her arms and shoulders so bare. It was too late to change now.
Jackie opened the door and ushered them inside. “Thank God you guys are here. I need help with these teenagers.”
Mary laughed. “You sound like they are about to stampede your place.”
“You aren’t far off.”
“Samantha only invited a handful of her school friends right?” Mary asked as she stepped into a very, very crowded living room.
“Holy crap!” Connor commented moving to the side abruptly as people squeezed past him.
“This is more than a few.” Mary was in awe that so many people could fit in Jackie’s small living room.
“Yeah well, the few that Samantha invited, decided to invited a few of their own…who invited a few of their own…”
“Is that the whole football team?” Connor asked pointing towards the group of young men heading outside to the pool.
“Just the Offensive line,” Jackie answered. “Crap! I need to go get the hamburgers from the kitchen so that Adrian can start grilling them.” She gave them an apologetic look before heading through the crowd yelling to someone in the middle of the room. “Samantha! Mary and Connor are here!”
Mary watched as a brunette head made its way from the middle of the room over to them. She smiled at a beaming Samantha.
“You guys made it!”
“We wouldn’t miss it for anything!” Even though she knew Samantha had werewolf hearing, Mary had to yell just to hear herself over the crowd.
“Sorry, it’s a bigger turnout than we planned on.” Samantha gave Connor a hug then hugged Mary.
“You only turn eighteen once,” Mary said smiling.
“What?” Samantha asked distractedly.
“I said! You. Only. Turn. Eighteen. Once!” It really was too loud, she felt like her ears were splitting.
Samantha smiled. “You came!”
Mary frowned and looked at Connor. Connor laughed. “We’ve covered that already honey.”
Samantha pointed to someone standing behind them. Mary turned with Connor smiling as she looked behind her. Her smile froze in place as she locked eyes with Ric, the sexiest man she had ever met, and he’d brought a date.
“Of course I came.” Ric gave Samantha a smile. “I hope you don’t mind me bringing my…friend, Victoria.”
“Not at all. The more the merrier!” Samantha said.
“Samantha get over here and dance!” One of the human girls yelled as a pumping beat started to blast throughout the house.
“Oh that’s my jam. I’ll talk to y’all later!” Samantha danced her way back into the crowd.
“I’ll go get you something to drink from the other side. You stay here where it’s safe.” Connor told Mary as he pushed his way through the crowd, leaving her there with Ric and his date.
“Mary it’s good to see you.” Ric gave her a look from head to toe.
She shivered under his gaze. “You too, Mr. Nelson.” She glanced over at the woman that came with him.
She wanted to say the woman was ugly, but she wasn’t. She had her pretty red hair piled up in a bun on top of her head, with tendrils cascading down to frame an oval face. She wore glasses that didn’t detract from her looks at all, in fact they emphasized her button nose and her brown eyes flecked with gold. She wore a simple white silk button up blouse tucked into a pencil skirt that came up over her knees at a respectable length and had a split on the side that showed a little bit of her pale thigh. She was dressed conservatively, but her clothes showcased her figure. The woman had a gentle flawless beauty, and Mary was instantly jealous. She tried to look away but the woman caught her staring at her.
“Hi. I’m Victoria. My friends call me Tori.” She reached out a hand to Mary.
Mary had no excuse not to take it. “I’m Mary McGregor. I’m friends with Jackie and Samantha.” She frowned as she watched Victoria lean over to whisper to Ric.
Mary didn’t hear anything they said besides their goodbye. Obviously they were discussing something they didn’t want others to hear. She could just imagine what that would be. Bitterness filled her heart at the thought of the pretty woman touching Ric, tasting him all over like she’d fantasized doing herself.
She snorted as she turned around. Yeah, like he would want an almost middle aged woman touching him when he obviously prefers younger women. She didn’t want to wait there for Connor while watching the two love birds. She caught site of Samantha going to the kitchen so she made her way through the crowd, but she felt Ric staring after her the whole way.
She breathed a sigh of relief once she was out of his visual, until she caught the scene in the kitchen. She almost turned around and went back out into the crowd.

“Mom I swear I didn’t invite all of them!” Samantha was putting ice cubes in plastic cups beside her angry mother who was pouring tea and soda in them.
“This is just too much. We need to get some of them to leave,” Jackie said.
“How? Who do we send home? The werewolves? The vampires? Or the humans?” Samantha asked, irritated.
“Speaking for the humans, I wouldn’t mind going home myself,” Mary said as she entered the kitchen.
Jackie pointed her finger at her friend. “You’re not getting off so easily missy. Why wer
e you and Connor late?”
Mary looked away. “I wasn’t sure I should wear this.”
“Why not? It’s a very pretty dress. One that I helped pick out.” Jackie questioned her.
“I thought I should try other options, less revealing options before I resigned myself on this one.”
“Less revealing?” Samantha asked. She looked down at her own outfit which was a skin tight mini skirt and a tank top with her bikini straps showing.
“For a woman my age, this is revealing.” Mary defended herself.
“I’ll go try to convince some of the freeloaders out there to leave.” Samantha carried a tray full of beverages out into the crowd. Mary was glad to note that the vampire, Brock, was there making a path for her and offering to help carry it even though Samantha refused to let him. There was something going on between those two, but she wasn’t sure what it was. She didn’t know if werewolves and vampires were even compatible. Plus, her friend Jackie and her new husband Adrian would have a serious problem with Samantha dating anyone right now. She turned her attention back to her friend who seemed to be overdoing the drinks.
“So, there are more vampires here?” Mary asked.
“Yeah. Adrian has Brock and Christina helping with security, but he also invited his second in command to come.”
“Oh the infamous Chuck Norris. I can’t wait to meet him,” Mary said with glee.
Jackie chuckled. “It’s Charles. And he is as different from the character as night is from day.”
“And the wolf pack is here including the alpha and his date,” Mary commented dryly.
“Ric is here? I didn’t see him and I really wanted to meet this woman he told Adrian he was bringing.”
“He came after you left for the kitchen. I’m sure you will get to meet his date.”
“What’s she like?” Jackie asked.
“Her name is Victoria Johnson and she’s…pretty. Tall, young, and pretty.” Mary tried not to sound resentful.
“Young? She can’t be that young if she is a full blooded female werewolf.”
“Werewolf? I thought female werewolves were rare.” Mary peered out of the door trying to get a glimpse of the woman they were discussing.
“They are rare and pure bloods even rarer. Adrian says she’s at least three hundred years old. Does it look like they’re hitting it off?”
Mary shrugged her shoulders. “Why wouldn’t they hit it off? She’s his type except for the fact that she looks much smarter than him. He wouldn’t be on a date with her if he wasn’t interested. Right?”
“Well, actually he’s being forced to date.”
“What do you mean?” Mary turned back to stare at her friend.
“Ric told Adrian that the werewolf council is sending three full blooded werewolf females here for him to try to find a mate. They are pressuring all purebloods to mate and keep the werewolf lines going.”
“Why can’t the werewolves fall in love with humans and change them over?” Mary asked.
“Well I asked that and Adrian said that human women only have forty percent chance of surviving the transition. Also, the councilman pushing the pure bloods to breed insists the blood lines remain pure. Ric is one of a few pureblood alpha males so they want him to mate with a pureblood alpha female. They are pretty much giving him no choice in the matter. Poor Ric.”
Mary glanced back out of the door and caught Ric saying something that made the perky redhead laugh. “Yes, poor Ric.”
Chapter 5
“Damn it!” Jackie yelled out.
Mary turned around when she heard something crashing to the floor. She found that her friend had dropped a whole tray with cups of soda on the floor.
“Mary, could you please go and fetch some towels in the linen closet?”
“Sure I’ll be right back.” She wedged her way out of the kitchen. It didn’t look like Samantha had had any luck convincing people to leave. At least there wasn’t anyone in the hallway leading do the laundry room where the linen closet was. She knew she should hurry, but after getting through that crowd she wasn’t looking forward to heading back.
She took some deep breaths, bending down to open the bottom cabinet where the towels were stored. When she stood back up, turned around she found Ric standing close behind her, and she yelped in surprise.
“What the hell are you doing sneaking up on me like that?” she accused.
“I was not sneaking up on you.”
“So you didn’t follow me in here?” She raised an eyebrow at him.
“I was making sure you were okay after getting through all those people.” He shrugged.
“Right, because it would be too difficult for a mere human to deal with that right?” She crossed her arms over her chest feeling frustrated with him.
“It would be difficult for anyone to deal with. You being human makes it more so.”
“Because I am weak?” She knew what the werewolves and vampires thought of humans and she was getting tired of having to take up for the human race.
Ric frowned as he stepped closer to her. “Well, humans are weaker.”
Mary stepped back until her back hit the cabinets. “Jerk!”
***
“Why are you angry at me?” Ric reached out a hand and gently caressed her cheek that was now pink with temper. He scented arousal on her and it was revving up his wolf. He shouldn’t feel this way. He had a full blooded alpha female waiting for him, but all he wanted was to stay there with the little human. He moved closer until his body gently touched hers.
“What are you doing?” Mary whispered with choppy breaths.
“I don’t know.” He tipped her face up towards him and his eyes focused on her sweet lips. Just a taste, that’s all he wanted. Just a taste.
“Mom!” Connor called out from the hallway.
Mary pushed Ric away. “I’m coming!” She grabbed the towels and left the laundry room as quick as possible. Her heart was racing.
Ric tapped his forehead against the cabinet. What the hell was wrong with him? He couldn’t let himself be attracted to a human. He just couldn’t.
***
“Oh no,” Jackie said standing outside by the pool.
“What?” Mary asked as she sat in a lounge chair.
“Ric and his date are leaving. I didn’t even get to meet her.”
Mary made herself not look. She was embarrassed that she allowed herself to feel anything for the man, and she hated that he was going to go off and have sexy times with another woman.
From the way he was with her in the laundry room earlier, she’d thought he was attracted to her, but obviously she was wrong. She didn’t like feeling this way, unsure and insecure. She didn’t need a man. She was a widow and a single mom, and she didn’t have time for all that nonsense.
Adrian walked up and kissed his wife soundly. “Perhaps we’ll meet the next date. She should arrive in a few days. Maybe earlier.”
She couldn’t take hearing anymore about bachelor stud Ric Nelson. “I’m going home. Tell Connor to call when he’s ready and I’ll drive back and pick him up.”
“Nonsense, Adrian will drive him home when the party is over.”
“Okay then. Talk to you tomorrow.” Mary kissed Jackie’s cheek and waved goodbye to Adrian who was back at the grill. She decided to avoid the crowd by going around the side of the house. She heard a few groans coming from the nearby bushes and hurried along. She did not want to interrupt someone making out in the dark. What if it was Ric? She jogged the rest of her way to her old beat up Volkswagen.
***
Ric drove to the Strange Lake Falls Hotel and parked his car. The drive was quiet. Neither he nor Victoria had spoken since leaving the party. He sensed her unease as he got out of the car and opened her door to help her out.
“Thanks.” She said.
They stood there in the parking lot not looking at one another, until finally Ric sighed. “Victoria, I’m sorry, but I just don’t feel anything…”
r /> “Me either!” Victoria breathed a relieved sigh, and they both laughed at the situation. “I was so worried you would be angry.”
“Angry that you aren’t the least bit attracted to me? No, I’m not angry, but my ego is a little deflated.” He didn’t say it with a harsh tone.
“I am sure your ego will survive this failed date.”
“It wasn’t all bad was it?”
She shook her head. “No actually, I’m thinking of moving here. The people are really friendly and I keep getting mistaken for the new librarian. I might just go and apply. I have a degree in education but I would rather work in the library instead of the school. That’s if you are okay with me moving here.”
“I don’t have a problem with that. Look at it this way, you already know a few people here now, so the move should be easier. And you can come out on a full moon run to the pack house where it’s safe.”
“I really appreciate that Alpha.”
“I think you can call me Ric now, Victoria. I mean, we have gone on a date and everything.” He chuckled.
She laughed, “Call me Tori please.”
“Tori, thank you for coming all this way for me. I feel bad that things didn’t work out.”
“It’s okay. I know how important it is to our people. I hope that one of the other females coming will be a match for you.”
“Maybe.” He doubted it. “Goodnight.”
“Goodnight…Ric.” Tori waved goodbye and entered the hotel.
Ric waited until she was inside safely. Then he got back inside his pickup truck and headed home. One date down, two more to go. What a night.
***
Mary walked outside onto her little patio in the back yard. She wore her white nightgown with the robe open, and as she closed her eyes she felt the cool breeze blow over her skin.
She’d come home and showered, but now that she was ready for bed she couldn’t sleep. Every time she closed her eyes she saw Ric with the redhead and it ate at her. She tossed and turned until finally she decided she needed fresh air.
