His voice was filled with humor, and the tone in it plus his question made her giggle. “A bit. Why?”

“Because it’s the quiet ones you have to be careful of. What about butt fucking? He do any of that to you last night?”

“He did not.” She lifted her head and glanced over her shoulder. “Why? Are you looking to do something he didn’t?”

He tilted his head and gave her a droll look. “Duh.”

Vivian laughed. “Well then, go right ahead, doctor.”

He hopped off the bed. “First things first.” He returned to the bed with a tube of lube, and then asked her to get on her hands and knees. He pulled a pillow out from under the comforter and positioned it underneath her, and then carefully inserted a wet finger into her ass. “I don’t want to hurt you.”

“I’m all right. It feels incredible.” It really did. She moaned as he stretched the walls and moved his finger in and out, then withdrew and repeated it with two of them.

“If this hurts, stop me. Okay?”

“All right.” She forced her muscles to relax as he slid his dick inside her ass. He’d put more lube on the condom because it was very wet, and consequently there was no pain, only pressure. Once she grew used to it, she loved the way it felt. He thrust carefully at first, increasing the speed and depth when she moaned louder and clutched the pillow.

“Vivian, you are so tight. Sweetheart, this is amazing.”

  “I love it, too.”

“Can I come in your ass? I can’t hold off much longer.”

“Yes,” she whispered. He thrust quicker now, and deeper. When he reached underneath to play with her clit, Vivian cried out in pleasure as the contractions from her previous climax started up again. When he came, he yelled loudly, and she found that very sexy.

He withdrew, and then he kissed each ass cheek, working his way up her back, and finally turning her onto her back to kiss her on the mouth. When he released it, he walked into the bathroom and returned with a warm, wet washcloth. He cleaned her off, and then he pulled her into his arms and stroked her hair and back as he held her.

Vivian drifted off to sleep, listening to the sound of his breathing, and inhaling the scent of his cologne. She had no idea what would happen tomorrow, but she knew she’d never regret tonight. Preston was a charming, attentive man, and a wonderful lover. She was happy to be here with him right now.

  Chapter Nine

Luke worked late Friday night at the store, and didn’t see any lights on inside Vivian’s house when he returned, but he also didn’t see the doctor’s pretentious Jag in the driveway. Then again, she might be at his house. He could drive over there, but what would he do then? Knock on the door and insist on speaking to her? That wasn’t his style.

He stared at his cell phone for about an hour before he finally called her. It went to voice mail, but not right away. That meant it wasn’t turned off, but why wasn’t she answering it? Were they still out? She’d said they were going to a movie after dinner. He debated for another half hour whether to send her a text, and finally went to bed instead.

But he couldn’t sleep. He kept picturing her underneath Preston, naked and sweating. She had every right to fuck the man if she wanted to. They’d made no promises to each other. Why hadn’t he manned up and asked her out before now? This was his own doing and he knew that, but that didn’t make it any easier right now to get the images out of his head.

Every time he heard a noise he peered out the window, but it wasn’t the Jaguar. She wasn’t coming home tonight. She was over there, a mere five streets away, in Preston’s bed. How could he have let this happen? If Susan could speak to him right now, she’d call him a dumbass. And she would be right.

Preston woke up Vivian by licking her right nipple. She giggled then wrapped her arms and legs around him as he sank his dick into her hot, wet pussy once more. He hadn’t put on a condom this time. He trusted her. It had been so long since he’d fucked a woman without one that he had to fight not to come right away. He wanted her from behind again, because she’d looked so damn sexy earlier with her round ass up in the air.

He withdrew then rolled her onto her stomach. It was dark in the room, but not so dark he couldn’t see the outline of her plump ass. He loved them this way, and he took a playful bite from each cheek, forcing more giggles from her. This woman was warm, tender, and intelligent. Everything he’d ever wanted. She’d crawled under his skin already and he knew it. There was no point in pretending it hadn’t happened. That would be like denying his own humanity.

He moved her cheeks apart and guided his throbbing cock into her pussy once more. She moaned loudly with each thrust, and he didn’t even have to touch her clit this time. Her orgasm wasn’t as strong as the ones she’d had earlier, but she seemed to be enjoying it. This time when he came, he groaned loudly as the contractions raced through him, filling up his entire body.

She moved to embrace him as soon as he pulled out, and she didn’t seem to mind his cum drying on her skin as they drifted toward sleep once more, wrapped in each other’s arms. Preston had no clue what was going to happen tomorrow, next week, or next month. But he knew one thing. One perfect thing. He wanted this woman in his life. And Preston always got what he wanted. Always.

  * * * *

Vivian spent most of Saturday morning in her own bed. Preston had made her breakfast and then driven her home earlier. He’d told her that he wanted to spend the day with her, but also said he had a lot to buy for the house yet. She’d used that as an excuse to tell him she was tired and wanted to sleep a bit more. It wasn’t that she didn’t want to spend the day with him, but she needed time to catch her breath and process everything.

Plus, she knew she’d need to speak to Luke, and it had to be today. He was at work this morning, but later she’d go over there and visit with him. She had no idea how this was going to work, and she didn’t want to hurt either man. The obvious solution wasn’t one she could see either of them agreeing to. And in the long run, it wouldn’t work here, in this town. They’d have to hide it from everyone, especially at the hospital.

Vivian groaned and rolled over in bed. How the hell had she let this happen?

But underneath it all, there really was no regret. She’d never been so sated or happy, and she wanted to see both men again. Preferably naked. She giggled as she punched the pillow in an effort to get comfortable. This was so unlike her, but at the same time, the joy coursing through her hadn’t been this intense in a very long time. Everything Preston had said last night was true. She’d denied her real self for so long that she’d forgotten it existed.

Luke was the man she’d have married if things had turned out differently. It didn’t dishonor Susan’s memory to acknowledge that. And now, she had a chance to be with him. As for Preston, he was different, and she loved that about him. He was intelligent and easy to be with, and that had surprised her, considering how he’d reacted last weekend. But he’d more than made up for that, and she wouldn’t hold it against him.

She was in deep shit here. She had no clue what the answer to this was, but she knew she had to find one and soon. Because she didn’t want to give up either man.

  * * * *

Vivian decided to make fried green tomatoes and pecan pie because Luke loved both. She’d sent him a text earlier and asked if they could talk when he got off work. He’d texted back within seconds, telling her he’d be home today around five.

He hadn’t asked how her date had gone or anything else, and she’d spent the next half hour debating whether to call him or drive into town so they could talk face to face, but finally calmed down. She’d known Luke her entire life. If he was angry with her, he would tell her that.

She had just finished taking the pie out of the oven when Preston called, and asked if he could make dinner for her. “Oh, that is so sweet. But I have plans. I’m going next door to visit with Luke and have a talk about…about this situation.”

  “Th
is situation?”

She took a deep breath. “Yes. The fact that I want to keep seeing you both.” He didn’t say anything. She didn’t even hear him breathing, and wondered whether she’d lost the call. Then the perfect idea came to her. “Why don’t you come over so all three of us can sit down and talk?”

“Is that what you really want?” he asked quietly.

“You mean to talk about it?”

“No, I mean to see us both.”

“Yes, it is.” Her heart pounded in her ears as she waited for his response.

“I had a feeling it might come to this.”

She didn’t answer. What could she say, after all?

“All right,” he said. “Like I said last night, we’re all adults. I’ll come over and talk. What time should I be there?”

She sent up a silent prayer of thanks. “Does five work for you?”

  “It sure does.”

“I think I’ll take you up on the offer to bring something this time.” She didn’t want him to feel as if he were nothing more than an afterthought.

“What would you like me to bring?”

  “Anything alcoholic.”

When she heard him chuckle, she was relieved. “All right. See you at five.”

  * * * *

She heard Luke’s truck pull into the drive at five minutes before five o’clock, and walked over with the plate of tomatoes and the pie. When she told him that Preston was coming over so all three could talk, he didn’t look surprised, but he did look sad.

Vivian put the food on the kitchen counter and put her arms around him. “Now you listen to me, Luke Henderson. I had an amazing time with you Thursday night. Nothing will change that. Nothing. Not ever. Last night did not change that. Do you understand me?”

“I understand you.” His voice was filled with defeat and that nearly broke her heart. Was she the most selfish woman on the planet? This was hurting both of them. How in the hell had she ever thought this could work? She took her arms from around him and stepped back to give him space.

“Here’s what you don’t understand,” he said. “It took a lot of courage for me even to kiss you, let alone finally make love to you.”

  “I know it did.”

“And now you’re asking me to share you with another man. That is what you’re asking me to do, isn’t it?”

She didn’t know what to say. He’d nailed her, just like that.

“I’ve already done that, Vivian. For twelve years I did that.”

She put her hand over her heart. “Luke…”

“I know I was married to another woman. I know that. And I loved Susan with all my heart and soul. But you…you were the one that got away. It was my own fault. I admit that. But I never, ever got over you. Never.”

“I don’t know what to say right now.”

“You don’t have to say anything. Just listen. He just got here. It’s not right, and it’s not fair. But I’m not a boy anymore, either.” She watched him swallow hard. “And I’m not about to give you up again. So I will sit down with this man and talk about this. But for your sake, not his.”

  “Thank you,” she whispered.

“Don’t thank me yet. I said I’d talk. What happens by the end of tonight might be a different matter.”

She was about to speak again when a knock sounded on the door. Luke went to answer it, and Vivian took out the sandwiches he’d brought home and spread out all the food on platters. By the time Preston and Luke came into the kitchen she had their meal ready.

Preston handed her a bottle of very expensive wine. “I hope this will do.”

  “It’s perfect. Thank you.”

He looked like he wanted to kiss her, but he didn’t. Instead he asked if he could help, but Luke had already carried three wine glasses and a corkscrew to the table. Preston opened the bottle of wine while Vivian and Luke watched. He poured them each a glass, then took a seat and raised his. “To unconventional relationships.”

“Not sure I’m ready to toast them just yet,” said Luke.

Vivian raised her glass. “Then how about simply drinking to the three of us?”

“I can do that.” Luke clinked his glass against hers first, then Preston’s.

They ate in silence, except for Luke and Preston each telling her they loved the tomatoes, and Vivian thanking Preston again for the wine. It was the most uncomfortable, awkward meal she could remember eating. When they got around to the pie, Vivian decided this was silly, and that she’d have to start the conversation.

“I’ve already said this to each of you separately, so I’m just going to put it out there again. I want to keep seeing you both. I want to keep having sex with you both. I had a fantastic time Thursday with Luke, and I had an equally wonderful time last night with Preston. I can’t give either of you up. I’m sorry if that’s crazy, or if it’s scandalous, or whatever y’all think it is, but it’s God’s honest truth. I want you both.”

Preston put down his wine glass and leaned back in his chair, a slight smile on his face. “That’s one of the things I admire about you. You’re direct.”

“We call it blunt down here,” said Luke. “But yeah. I like that about her, too. It makes it easy to know what she’s thinking. You never have to guess or be blindsided because you were so wrong it ain’t even funny.”

“Exactly,” said Preston. “God, it used to make me crazy when I thought a woman was thinking one thing, and even her tone of voice and body language said she was, but then I’d find out I was so off base I wasn’t even sure we’d been in the same ballpark.”

Luke actually chuckled, and Vivian wondered if she’d put drugs in the pie by accident. “I know what you mean. But Vivian has never been that way. What she says is what she means. Period.”

“Why don’t we sit in the living room?” she asked. “We’ll be more comfortable.” She’d only suggested it so she could walk and feel the floor underneath her shoes. Anything to ground her in reality right now. Were they really bonding? It was too much to hope for.

Once the men were seated, she returned to the kitchen long enough to make sure they each had another glass of wine, and then she took a seat in the armchair across from them on the sofa, so she could see both of them as they talked. “So, what do we do about this?”

“We could make a calendar,” said Luke.

Preston frowned, but then shook his head once he realized Luke was grinning. “You mean like odd and even days? And she gets to rest on Sundays?”’

Luke took another sip of wine. “Sure. Why not?” He glanced toward her. “Vivian? What do you think of that plan?”

“I think it’s time we got serious about this.”

Luke frowned. “I’m sorry. Really. I don’t mean to joke about it. It’s just that I don’t know what to say.”

“I’m not upset with you. I know you joke to diffuse tension. But how about if I make it easy?” Her entire body trembled, but this had to be said. The solution was so simple, and she loved the idea because it was decadent and very sexy. But would they go for it? “I was thinking more along the lines of seeing you both at the same time.”

She took another sip while she let that percolate.

Preston spoke first, a look of disbelief on his face. “You mean go out together? As a triad?”

  “Yes.”

“And do you also mean have sex with you at the same time?” Luke’s voice was quiet, but she mentally applauded him for finally saying it out loud.

  “Yes. I mean that, too.”

“Not with each other,” said Preston. “I mean me and Luke. You’re not suggesting that.”

She smiled. “Not unless you’re each bisexual and I didn’t know it until now.”

He grinned and shook his head. “No, I’m not.”

“Same here,” said Luke. “I’ve never done anything like that, Vivian. I mean have sex with a woman while another man had sex with her at the same time.”

  “Neither have I,” said Preston.

&nbs
p; She glanced at Luke. “Well, you know I haven’t. But I’m not going to be comfortable watching you peek out your blinds each time you hear Preston’s Jag in the driveway, or knowing you’re watching for him to bring me home.”

She turned her gaze on Preston. “And I can’t stand the thought of you all alone in that big house, wondering what I’m doing with Luke in his, or in mine. That’s just silly. All it will do is encourage jealousy and competition, and that is not what I want.”

“But isn’t this a competition?” asked Preston.

“No. No, it’s not. That’s what I’m trying to explain. I don’t want either of you to think you have to compete for me. You’ve won me over. Both of you. It’s a done deal.”

“Vivian, what you’re asking goes against the grain for a guy.”

“I have to agree with Preston on that one,” said Luke. “But at the same time, what you said also makes a lot of sense.”

She smiled at Luke. “So, is that a ‘yes’? Will you give this a try?”

He drained his glass. “I’d rather share you than lose you. That’s a given. If this is what you want, I’m in.”

Preston sighed out loud as he glanced from Luke to Vivian, and then back toward Luke again. “You have more at stake in this than I do. I just want you to know I acknowledge that. You’ve known her your entire life, and I suspect I’m right in saying you’ve also had a thing for her that long.”

  Luke nodded.

“But I’d be lying if I said she hasn’t already crawled under my skin. I don’t want to give her up, either. So okay.” He slapped his thighs with his palms. “What the hell? Let’s give it a shot.” He turned his gaze on Vivian. “I don’t want to lose you. So I’ll do this. I’ll share you with Luke. But with one caveat.”

  “Name it,” she said.

“We keep talking. We communicate. Because from where I’m sitting, that is the only way something like this can possibly work.”
