“You were about to say,” she encouraged.
Matthew smiled, and then slowly raised his gaze to hers. Every single time, she took his breath away. Her beautiful silver eyes held him captive. He could no more look away than stop loving her.
He cleared his throat. “Listen, princess, I may be about to make a complete jackass of myself, but here goes.” He dipped into his pocket and pulled out the diamond cluster ring he’d bought just a few days ago.
Loving the startled gasp that flew from her lips, Matthew stared into her beautiful face. “Marry me”—he slipped the diamond engagement ring onto her slender finger—“make me the happiest man on earth, Kelly.”
“Oh, my, God. Oh, my, God. Matthew, it’s gorgeous.” He’d never seen her so happy and excited. Kelly jumped from the stool and flung her arms around him, making him feel like the proudest and luckiest guy on the planet.
When she looked at the ring on her finger, the facets caught the overhead light, making it sparkle like a thousand stars in the night sky. “I’m never going to take this off. Do you hear me? Never.” Her eyes glinted tearfully.
“Is that a yes, princess? Please say it is.”
“Yes, Matthew, yes. With all my heart and soul, yes. Nothing would make me happier than to be Mrs. Kelly Strong.” Her actions confirmed her words, when she gave him a huge kiss on the lips.
Feeling like the guy who’d just won the lottery, he called across the bar, “Hey, Todd, break open the champagne will you, a glass for everyone in the club, including yourself.” He turned and kissed Kelly full on the lips.
“What’s the celebration, boss?”
“I’m getting married, man, to the most beautiful woman in the whole wide world. Life doesn’t get any better than this.”
