In each state with recognized State Guards, the State Guard belongs to the office of the Governor; sometimes they are separate forces available to the governor, and sometimes auxiliaries or reserves of the state's National Guard and are directed by the state's Adjutant General. Some states (Colorado, Oklahoma, and Pennsylvania) have State Guards or State Military reserves not recognized in statutes; others (i.e., Florida) are recognized in statutes but not yet officially by the present state government.

State Guards sometimes duplicate the role of the National Guard, sometimes have completely separate and distinct roles, or serve their state somewhere in between. Many serve in Civil Defense or Emergency Management roles.

More information about the America's State Guards is available at http://www.sgaus.org/ Information about other states' units is athttp://www.sgaus.org/states.htm

The Alabama State Defense Force (ASDF) is the state provided guard of the State of Alabama allowed by the Constitution of Alabama, The Code of Alabama and Executive Order. It has an authorized strength of 1,000 members and is organized on the United States Army structural pattern. The ASDF is under the control of the Governor of Alabama, as the state's Commander in Chief, and comes under the authority of The Adjutant General (TAG) of Alabama. The ASDF is an adjunct, volunteer, augmenting force to the Alabama National Guard, and it is not federally recognized.

“Well wonder what they are going to use the state army for?” Dump asked.

“I don’t know but if it was me I would do it kind of like the old cavalry units they had out west to keep peace or occasionally try to enforce law and order.” Farley said.

“That sort of bears watching, I wonder how they are going to feed them troops. We already had enough problems with farm takeover schemes and such under emergency powers acts.” Dump said worriedly.

“I know what you mean but I have been hearing of resettlement camps and civilian labor gangs working the farms here and there. Wonder how long it will be before the poor counties get a little post or fort or something to help get civilization back on track?” Farley questioned.

“Well I for one don’t have no moral or patriotic obligations to sign up for anything at the moment. I say we sit back and watch for a bit and see if it’s a bad or good thing they got going on. In the meantime I say we try to sell the notion of a privatized security force like the Old Wells Fargo thing or maybe we could be like Pinkerton guards or something.” Dump declared.

“How did this become a "WE" thing now?” Farley said.

“Well you organized us and you the one speaking as leader at the meeting. You sell it we do it. Meantime let’s go slow here ok?” Dump decided.

“Sounds fine to me. Nothing wrong with private security if it doesn’t conflict with official. I think you are wanting to become what once was called “operators” civilian soldiers available for hire.” Farley declared.

“Call us what ever pays the most.” Dump said with a grin.

“What pays the most is playing agent for such a group and arranging employment. We talk about a manager’s fee later. Come on it looks like everyone is starting to assemble for the show, let’s go hear what they have to say.” Farley said grinning back while putting his boonie hat in his pocket and getting ready to go sit in the church.

  THE END

“Victory at all costs, victory in spite of all terror, victory however long and hard the road may be; for without victory, there is no survival.”

  Winston Churchill

SILVER STAG was founded in a garage by a couple of sportsmen who enjoyed turning old files and saw blades into hunting, fishing, and camping knives. The hobby turned into a business and the SILVER STAG brand was launched in 1998. Over the past 18 years, we have been extremely focused on improving our quality and selection. The company has come a long way since the “Garage Days”, and the team at SILVER STAG has worked hard to meticulously and consistently build additional value into the product line.

We have never strayed from our original hands on approach to manufacturing. Even today, SILVER STAG Knives are primarily ground, polished, assembled, shaped, and sharpened “Free Hand”. While no two finished knives will ever look exactly alike, all SILVER STAG Knives share certain features that make them extraordinary field tools. To start, the blades are designed by sportsmen and are exceptionally practical. The blades are manufactured exclusively from the highest quality domestically produced High Carbon Steel. Authentic North American antler or Stabilized Hardwoods are built into the designs. The finished knives are stunningly attractive, incredibly functional, and extremely durable. Most custom knife makers charge three to six hundred dollars for comparable products, while the majority of our product line retails in the $69 to $179 range. How can we offer such an exceptional value? By manufacturing large, same style runs we gain production efficiencies that cannot be duplicated in a small custom shop. In summary, the team at SILVER STAG has taken a step back in time when high quality tools were handmade by proud Americans dedicated to producing quality products at a fair price.
