“Enough,” she stated, moving to push up and turn to him. “I’m ready.”

James pushed her back over to where he wanted her. “Patience isn’t a virtue with the Amazons, is it?”

“If you—ah—want some—oh—thing you should—ooooh, right there,” Shana panted as he touched between her thighs. She forgot what she was saying. “Oh, this is good.”

James chuckled. He stroked her, as his mouth continued to bite and lick. When neither of them could take it anymore, he pulled back and aligned himself. Grabbing her hips, he thrust forward, rocking into her. Shana cried out, pushing back into him so he filled her completely, able to go deeper in this position.

James used her hips to control her. “Let me ride you, just like that. You feel so good.”

He reached his hand around, rubbing her clit in soft circles as he urged her climax. He held off his own pleasure. Shana bucked her hips, writhing beneath him. He continued to move inside her, working the tremors from her body. It was an intense sensation, one she’d never considered possible, never even heard of. Just when she thought she could take no more, excitement pushed her further, pounding her blood erotically through her veins. James grunted loudly in approval. Her eyes opened in wonder at the melee of nerves that jumped in response. And then she exploded with a tight-lipped scream of pleasure.

Feeling the ultimate pleasure of domination, James released himself, filling her, marking her, staking his claim. Then, he fell against her back, completely spent. His weight pressed her down into the bed. Their sweat-laden skin slid together.

James held her in his arms, relaxing as they both recovered. Then, when he felt her breath deepen as if she would go to sleep, he began kissing her anew, keeping her awake. Lifting her up, he brought her to the shower, washing them both off before making love to her against the wall with water falling all around them, beading to their flesh.

Afterwards, he bathed her with his tongue, licking her clean of the water as he teased every nerve in her to fiery life. They had all night, and James took every last minute of that time to plead his case, showing her the numerous ways their bodies could fit together. Several hours later, when dawn was near, he finally let her rest, knowing he’d done his job well.

  Chapter Seven

Shana yawned, blinking in contentment. She was a little sore, but nothing worse than what she was used to after a really good training session. Feeling an arm around her waist, she stiffened. She wasn’t accustomed to lying next to anyone and her first reaction was to pull away and attack. Twisting around as if her life depended on it, she found herself straddling a very naked, sleep dazed Captain James Alexander.

“Already? Baby doll, you about wore me out last night.” He yawned giving her a sheepish grin. Even as he protested, Shana felt him stir. His eyes dipped lazily to her breasts, breasts she was strangely proud of this morning.

“You are weak?” she challenged, her brow arching as she teased him. “I am not surprised. You are a man and it is to be expected. A true warrior doesn’t complain.”

“You call me weak?” He growled, flipping her beneath him and pinning her hips to his.

“You speak of not being able to go on.”

“I seem to remember someone begging me to give them a small rest last night.”

Shana actually felt a blush heating her face. Then, her expression turning very serious, she stated, “Someone? I did not know you went to another woman last night. I might have to kill them.”

James laughed and pleasure filled her as he nuzzled her neck. “Would you be jealous if I were to go to another woman?”

Shana considered that and then nodded. Her kind was raised to be possessive over what was theirs, dominant. If you didn’t protect what was yours someone would take it. And right now, James felt like he was hers. Yes, she would definitely fight to keep him. “I have no use for jealousy, but I would be angry enough to fight. If a woman wishes for what is mine she must fight me for it in open challenge. It is the only honorable way.”

James drew back, stroking her hair. “Am I yours, Shana? Don’t you even care what I think about it?”

She shook her head. “Not really.” At his shocked expression, she started to laugh. “I already know what you think.”

  “You think so?”

“You wish to be mine.” She nodded, certain of that fact. “You evoked the Rite of Mairrit, did you not?”

James chuckled. “I have no idea what I did. The guard wanted to take me for a test drive and I said I wanted to be with only you. Next thing I know I’m being delivered to your doorstep in chains.”

Her expression fell and she pushed his shoulders. Pain rolled inside her chest at his words. He didn’t choose her. It had been a mistake. “Why did you not say that from the beginning? Why not tell them you did not mean to evoke the Rite of Mairrit?”

“Because it delivered me to your doorstep,” James said, by way of an answer, stressing his words.

She studied him carefully, pondering all that had happened between them. As a warrior, she was used to making quick decisions and knowing they were right. If she wanted to eat, she ate. If she wanted to battle, she grabbed her weapons. If she wanted James, it stood to reason she would simply take him as hers.

“What is the Rite of Mairrit?” he asked softly.

“It…it means you wish to be only mine,” Shana said. “That you would live with me until we had girl children, usually the holy number three. It was started in times when finding men were scarce and we needed our population to grow. I thought when you…that you wished to…”

“It sounds like marriage,” James said.

Shana shrugged not understanding his term. “After three female children are born, you would unfortunately have to die, but—”

“Whoa,” James said, holding up his hands.

“You must take me back. I understand now that you did not wish for the Mairrit. I will take our daughter and raise her. Hopefully there will not be too much shame on our names at your escape. Perhaps I will say you were killed. So long as you do not come back, it will be fine. You will live and our honor will be intact. I might need to cut off your finger, perhaps an ear.”

“Daughter?” James asked, pleasure curling in him at the idea of a child. He never really thought he’d want a baby. But seeing Shana, having spent the night with her, he could glimpse a picture of another life.

“Yes,” Shana said, touching her stomach. “The baby you put in me. The doctors gave me the hormones to conceive a girl. That is why I wanted you to take the green pill. The others I gave the white pill to. They dreamt of sex while I exercised.”

James laughed, shaking his head. “That settles it.”

  “What?”

“You have to marry me,” he stated.

  “Marry?”

“Um, Mairrit, without the killing me in the end part,” he said. “And without leaving me and cutting off my ears and fingers.”

“I don’t know. What would I do if I don’t go back?” she asked.

“I’m Captain of this ship and if I say it, you can be part of the team.” James stroked her cheek. “I promise we’ll see a lot of battle.”

Shana grinned, pleasure flooding her at the idea. “Space battle? And on alien planets? How many women on the crew?”

  “There’s, uh, you,” James said.

“Only me?” She frowned. “Does this mean you’ll want to go and rescue your men before they are all executed by the Amazonian?”

James grimaced. “Do you women kill everyone?”

“Child giver males,” she stated. “It avoids attachments once the child is born. Oh, and bothersome prisoners of war.”

“You have to promise to tell me if you get the urge to kill me,” he insisted, kissing her ear. She shivered, nodding in agreement. “And don’t go trying to cut off my anything—ear or otherwise. Got it? Besides, is attachment so bad?”

“I’m beginning to think not.” Shana
sighed. “I don’t even mind the baby so much, but the idea of three of them...”

“Oh, well, unlike your Rite of Mairrit, with the marriage rite, there’s no set number of children. Though, I like the idea of a son.”

“A male?” She frowned, unconvinced it was a good idea. “I can train the girl for war. You’d have to train the boy to work in the kitchen and to clean. I know nothing of these boy things.”

“We’ll train him for war,” James chuckled, moving to kiss her neck.

“But he’ll be a…male,” she clarified, as if the very idea was ridiculous. “Men belong in the kitchen. Sure some can be useful pawns in a fight, but the real decisions should be left to the women.”

“Hey, what are you saying?” James laughed, knowing he had a lot of work cut out for him if he was going to change her opinion about the male sex. “You think you can take me in a fair fight?”

Shana grinned, turning to meet her lips to his. Simply, she stated, “Yes.”

“We’ll just have to see about that.” James kissed her harder and didn’t intend to stop. Their lovemaking became a battle of the wills, each trying to gain the upper hand but not pushing it too far. After they met their release, James admitted, “I think I love you.”

Shana shrugged. “All right, but I don’t understand.”

“It is how I feel about you,” he whispered, nuzzling her ear as he cradled her body to his. “I have never met a woman like you.”

“I know nothing of this love.” Shana yawned in contentment. “But I feel as if my heart beats for you and I enjoy the idea of you being in my kitchen”

James chuckled, closing his eyes. “That will do for now, baby doll, that will do.”
