Meggie's Secret Page 5

John took her hand, “Come with me, there’s a clearing up here through the trail. Be careful walking, through.”

They walked through the narrowed path in the trees off to the side. Meg was overcome with the need for him to take every part of her. She also felt nervous. Maybe I should tell him I’m a virgin, I should tell him to take it slow.

Quickly, she turned her attention to the sound of wood cracking to their left. John’s head jerked the same way, and they both stopped. He stood in front of her protectively, and Meg’s body stiffened at the sound.

“Don’t worry, it’s nothing, there’s no one else here. It’s probably some animal, they’re more scared of us than we are of them.” He took a step forward, pulling Meg along with him through the path in the thick forest.

“I guess I’m a little jumpy, that scared the hell out of me.” She tried to hide exactly how very alarmed she felt.

With absolute certainty in his voice, he responded immediately. “Don’t worry Meggie, I won’t let anything happen to you. Come on, we’re almost there.”

They came to a small clearing and John placed his denim jacket neatly on the ground just before he pulled Meg down next to him and quickly moved his lips over hers. The kiss started out slow, and they both grew eager for more. He slipped his hand under Meg’s T-shirt, caressed her ribs, and moved upward until he fully cupped her bare aching breasts. “You feel so good, Meggie. Your skin is so soft, and you fit perfectly in my hands.” He squeezed her breasts letting her know exactly how they fit.

Without saying another word, he lifted her shirt, exposing both breasts to his hungry gaze. His mouth covered one then moved to the other and he sucked at her nipples bringing them to tight hard peaks. Meg felt pleasure work itself straight to her sex. While he continued to work one breast with his mouth, his hand caressed the other. His lips were moist and felt like pure sin working over her breasts in equal measure. He took his time teasing her.

John’s body hovered directly above her and he held his weight off with his elbows, the hard length of his erection drove into her pelvis. He nudged her thighs apart with one knee and settled himself there, his erection in direct line to her entrance and he continued to grind in to her through the material. Meg wished they were both naked. She let the pent up air out of her lungs and allowed the sensual feeling of arousal to take over. He moved his mouth down the side of her neck, and Meg heard the sound of wood cracking again. This time it was close, and panic replaced pleasure, taking her out of her reverie.

“Did you hear that? I can’t do this, John, I’m sorry, please.” She pushed him away and asked again. “Please, stop,” Meg asked with regret clear in her voice. She looked up to meet his heavy lidded eyes staring down at her. “What’s wrong, Meggie?” With his hand still covering her breast, John stopped moving and looked around, but the sound was gone, leaving Meg with an eerie feeling in the pit of her stomach. The hair at the back of her neck stood on end.

“John, I’m a little freaked out. I know this sounds silly,” she whispered, “But I feel like someone’s watching us. That’s twice in the last few minutes that I’ve heard something; we should go.” Meg felt like a complete moron for being too scared to continue, but there was no way she would be able to recover from what she was feeling. Someone was out there, and she could feel their eyes on them.

John stared back at Meg as if she had lost her mind. He combed his fingers through his hair in frustration and let out a deep breath of air. His face softened when he looked back at her, he sat up on his knees and cupped her chin. “Please,” he begged. “There’s nothing out there, stay with me. I need you, we’ve waited so long for this.”

Meg placed her hand over John’s where he held her chin, she stared up at him, she knew how he felt; she wanted this too. But she didn’t feel safe and she refused to be uncomfortable and paranoid during her first experience. “I’m sorry. I really want to be with you more than anything right now. This feels so incredible, you make me feel incredible, but we should get out of here. I’ve dreamed of this moment a million times over, of being with you, making love to you, but I’m far too distracted, John. I don’t know who or what it is behind those trees over there,” she pointed in the direction of noise. “But I really don’t feel like staying here and finding out.”

John placed both hands on Meg’s shoulders and searched her eyes. After kissing the top of her head, he jumped up and stood to his feet. “Ah, Meggie, I would be lying if I said I didn’t want you in the worst way possible right now. I’m about to explode in my pants from wanting you so badly.” He sucked in a sharp breath of cool midnight air before continuing. “But I’m not going to try and convince you to stay if you’re not comfortable. I want you completely focused on us when we’re together again, and I promise you, we’ll be together again.” He pulled her up and threw his jean jacket around her shoulders, before continuing to speak. “You know, my biggest regret is not chasing after you two years ago. I knew back then I had feelings for you, I haven’t been able to get you out of my head.”

Meg stopped in her tracks and curled her fingers around his forearm, “I wish you would have chased after me back then. I’ve spent the last two years of my life thinking about you, wishing you would leave her and ask me out.” She stepped up to the tips of her toes to reach his lips and he leaned down to meet her. This time she took the lead, taking him deep into her mouth, Meg wanted to savor the very taste of him and not let go. He gripped her waist firmly and held her to him in a strong hold, a hold that gave promise, before letting her go.

“Come on, let’s get you home,” he said. “Before I wrestle you the ground and have my wicked way with you.”

“I will certainly hold you to that,” she responded with a hopeful smile.

  Chapter 5

When Meg woke up the following day, she relived every detail of the night before. The few hours she had spent with John were amazing. She couldn’t believe they finally had some time alone together. Then she thought about Sarah and Will. She realized now that she should have told them she was leaving. What am I going to tell them? They will be so pissed at me for leaving early. Should I say something about what happened between John and me? No, what would be the point? She settled back into the comfort of her bed and thought about the noise in the woods. Maybe a part of me wanted things to stop, maybe the sounds I heard in the trees weren’t real. Perhaps my mind was playing tricks on me. No, she knew that wasn’t it. She wanted him desperately. She had always wanted him. Meg couldn’t shake the idea that someone had been watching her for a while now. But she paid no attention and shook off the eerie feeling.

The phone rang and she quickly reached over and grabbed for the receiver. She heard Sarah on the other end of the line talking with her mom. She interrupted their polite conversation. “I got it, Mom,” she said, listening patiently for her to say good bye. “Hey, Sarah, what’s up?’’

“Meg, what happened to you last night? Why the hell did you leave so early? You should have stuck around, we had such a great time. You always manage to disappear like that. What the hell!”

“Sarah, please, not now. I’ve got so much shit to do today. Can we talk about this later?”

“Well,” she said, clearly annoyed, “I just find it odd that every time John and Lynn show up, you disappear; it pisses me off. Oh, and Will went looking for you, he took off on his dirt bike. He must have been gone for at least two freaking hours. He was pissed, Meg.”

“You think I left because John and Lynn were there? That’s not why I left, Sarah. Will threw me in the pool, and after the alcohol wore off, I didn’t feel like hanging around.” For a second, she thought about telling Sarah of her unexpected encounter with Will in his room and then thought better of it. She didn’t want him feeling uncomfortable, and they seemed to work things out in the end. She would definitely tell her about John, but not until later when they were together. “Listen, Sarah, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to snap at you. Why don’t you come by tonight
and pick me up? We’ll go to the restaurant and grab a bite to eat and talk about our plans for next weekend.”

“Okay, I’ll pick you up at seven in the evening, be ready. But you better have a good excuse for leaving the party.”

“Sarah,” Meg yelled back in to the phone, “Don’t hang up, wait a sec.”

“Yeah, I’m still here. What is it?”

“I didn’t even ask you about your night. You seemed pretty tight with Ethan.”

“Aside from the fact that you left, the night turned out pretty good. Ethan is—you know what, it’s a long story, and I’ll fill you in over dinner.”

“Okay, I’ll see you then,” they both hung up.

Meg rolled over to the other side of the bed, closed her eyes, and reminisced about last night again and all that had happened. Finally, I kissed him, after two years of dreaming what it would be like, I did it! She recalled clearly how soft and moist his lips were against her own and against her skin. There was no denying the desire they both felt. Being with him, even for that short amount of time, was better than she could ever have imagined.

After a productive day of getting things in order and picking up a few items in preparation of her move, Meg managed to ship off two more boxes to her cousin in Toronto. She jumped in the shower and absorbed the feel of the hot water. God, that feels good after running around in this Godforsaken heat. She thought about John. What if I don’t see him again before I leave town? She let out a sigh of regret and took in a deep breath before she continued washing her hair. There has to be some way to be alone with him again, just once before I leave.

“Meggie, Sarah’s outside waiting,” her mom shouted out from the kitchen below. She took one last look at herself in the mirror before grabbing her purse and headed downstairs.

With the music on blast, Sarah’s head bobbed back and forth as she sang along to the music. Laughing, Meg took the passenger seat and settled in. Sarah lowered her sunglasses, as she always did when Meg opened the car door. “What are you laughing at?” she yelled over the roar of the music.

“You, Sarah. You can’t carry a tune to save your life.” Meg said laughing at her and meaning every word of it. Her friend might be beautiful but would never have a career in music.

“I know, right? But who gives a shit?” Sarah said, laughing back at her before continuing to sing along.

Meg reached over to the volume control and turned the music down so they could hear one another.

“So, tell me, Meg, why do you look so different today? Who were you with last night?” She poked Meg in the ribs knowingly and a big smile appeared across her face.

Meg angled herself toward Sarah and was taken off guard at her question. “You know? He told you? I can’t believe it. What did he say?”

“I’ll tell you at the restaurant. It’s going to be busy and I’d like to get our usual spot.” Sarah pulled out of the driveway. “I’ll tell you all about my conversation with John this afternoon when we get there.” She wiggled her eyebrows at Meg.

Ten minutes later, time seemed to come to a crawl as Meg waited impatiently to hear what John told Sarah about their midnight rendezvous. The waitress guided them to their usual spot next to a window overlooking the front parking lot. She took their drink and dinner order and let them know she would be back in less than two minutes with their beverages. Meg remained quiet, not wanting to engage in a conversation until the waitress delivered their drinks.

Their drinks came quickly, and the second the waitress left their table, Meg was bursting at the seams and couldn’t wait any longer. The anticipation was killing her. “Okay, give it up. What did he say to you?” she whispered across the table. With both elbows on the table, she leaned closer to Sarah. She didn’t want to miss a word.

“I promised him I wouldn’t say a word to you about this, so we did not have this conversation, okay?”

“I swear, I won’t say a thing,” Meg assured her.

“John came by the house today after lunch and wanted to talk to me. It was about you.” Sarah smiled knowing that Meg would be pleased to hear what John had to say.

“Oh? And what did he say exactly?”

“He told me he was with you last night. I asked if anything happened between you two, but he refused to give me any of the dirty details, so you will have to fill me in on that part. You know, Meg, he really, and I mean really, likes you.”

“Yeah, well I have to admit, last night was really nice, but he still has a girlfriend, Sarah. Not to mention it’s a little too late to discover his feelings for me now when I’m about to leave for university.”

“Meg, come on. Cut the guy some slack. You’re leaving in less than two weeks, what’s he supposed to do? Lynn has one year left in high school and then she’s moving out of the state to go to university in Michigan. John mentioned he’s leaving shortly after you. He’s moving to Boston with his older brother. He’s going to university there. He’s taking engineering and figured this would be as good a time as any to move on.”

“He’s actually leaving town, seriously? He didn’t mention any of this to me last night. So what will happen with Lynn?”

“Well, he said that his relationship with Lynn will be over at the end of this summer. Lynn doesn’t know that yet, but he said it’s inevitable. He also mentioned he doesn’t love her and has no intentions of carrying on a long distance relationship, at least not with her.”

“Oh, Sarah, why didn’t he leave her two years ago? This really sucks,” Meg said with disappointment clear in her voice.

She sat back in her seat and stared out to the parking lot, feeling as though she’d lost it all. Sarah reached over the table and placed her hand on Meg’s. “Meg, look at me,” she insisted. She looked Meg in the eye, with heaviness in her heart she continued. “He said if he could take back the last two years of his life, he would in a heartbeat. But it’s too late for that now, he wasn’t even sure you felt the same way until these last few months.”

“Why? What changed in the last few months?” That caught Meg’s attention.

“You know what, Meg? I’m not sure exactly what changed, but from the outside looking in, it’s evident you two have feelings for one another. Anyone with a set of eyes can see that. When you’re both in the same room, I see the stolen looks exchanged between the two of you. I see you both checking one another out when the other isn’t looking.”

Tears stung Meg’s eyes, but she managed to hold them back. “What else did he say?”

“He said life sucks and that he’s an idiot and, of course, I agreed.” Sarah chuckled, but she was filled with sadness for her closest friend as she continued. “He said that considering you are both leaving soon, he may as well stay with Lynn until the end of the summer. He feels there’s no point in breaking it off with her when they’re both about to part ways in two weeks anyways. He’d rather save the drama with her until then, but he’s planning on breaking it off with her for good before he goes.”

“Just my luck, huh, Sarah. But you know, if I did start dating him now, I would have followed him anywhere and who knows, maybe I would have ended up in Boston, living his dream and forgetting mine. So, I guess it’s all for the best that it turned out this way.” Meg knew it was far too late for her and John, the reality of it was clear now, and she would deal with it. Despite all of this, she still wanted to be with him one last time before they went their separate ways.

“Meg, I’m sorry. I wish things could have worked out differently. He really is a great guy. I think you would have made an amazing couple.”

“I don’t know if I’ll ever find anyone that compares to him, Sarah.” Tears filled her eyes, and Sarah sensed they were about to spill over so she handed Meg a napkin. Meg wiped away the few that escaped.

“Come on,” Sarah said. “Don’t do this to yourself. You are going to have an amazing future, Meg. One day, you’ll look back at all of this and it will be a distant memo
ry. You’ll find someone amazing when the time is right. I promise you.”

“You think so?” Meg managed in return. “Did he say anything at all to you about last night?”

“No, he refused to tell me anything, but whatever it was, it sure put a hell of a smile on his face. I wanted to ask him a million questions, but he refused to give in.”

“There’s not much to tell. I kept hearing things in the woods, and a bad feeling came over me. We fooled around, kissed and God, Sarah, he must of set every part of me on fire. If it weren’t for the noises I heard and that uneasy feeling in the pit of my stomach, I would have a smile from ear to ear today.”

“Jesus, Meg, you really are going to leave here a virgin. Just do it already. He’ll be so gentle with you, and I know he will. Wouldn’t it be nice to say good-bye to him that way. He could be your first, and you will remember it forever. What exactly are you scared of anyway? There’s nothing to it. You open your legs, he sticks his cock in, and the way he feels about you, it’ll be over in three seconds flat,” she laughed.

Meg shook her head at the vulgar words that came out of her friend’s mouth. She wasn’t surprised. With Sarah, there were no filters. “Jesus, Sarah, you’re too much. Can’t you think of a better name for a penis than that? Come on, that word sounds so nasty.”

Sarah threw her head back in laughter pointing her finger at Meg. “You need to get laid, that’s exactly what you need. Look, regardless of his staying with her until the end of the summer, we should try and work out something where the two of you can hook up again. I know there’s very little time to work out some sort of diversion to get him away from her for a night, but I’ll think of something. One night is all you need, it’s better than nothing. What do you think?”

“Do you have any idea how badly I want him to be my first? God, Sarah, last night, being with him, was amazing and we were so close. You didn’t tell him I’m still a virgin, did you? Please tell me you didn’t tell him that,” Meg pleaded.
