“Test?” He drew his eyebrows down over his eyes.
“Yeah, like, do her first and make sure she’s up to standard before you ask her out?”
He laughed and shook his head. “No. I swear to you that’s not what this was.”
“Then what was it?” I asked.
“What was it to you?” He raised his eyebrows.
“I’m not sure. I’ve never done anything like this before. It just—”
“Felt right?”
“Yeah. Kinda.” I nodded.
“Believe it or not, I’ve never done this before either. So, see, we already have something in common. We were both subway virgins before today.”
I laughed. “Dinner, huh? And then?”
He shook his head. “And then nothing. I don’t have any expectations. If something happens after dinner it’ll be up to you. I just want to get you to agree to dinner. I figure I’ll be lucky if that happens.”
“Okay.”
“Yeah?” He smiled.
“Yes, under one condition.”
“What?”
“You have to tell me your name.” I gave him a small smile.
He chuckled and held his hand out, “Hi, I’m Rivers.”
I put my hand in his and looked into his eyes. “Julia. It’s nice to meet you.” Rivers turned my hand over and kissed the inside of my wrist. It sent fingers of heat straight to my core.
“It’s very nice to meet you, Julia.” He grinned against my skin. “Are you ready to get off? It’s like we’re in a porno here.” He looked around.
I’d been so focused on him I’d barely noticed what was going on, but he was right. Add a camera to the mix and someone would have a great orgy scene.
“Yeah, we can get off at the next stop. But, you know, you’re the reason everyone’s doing the nasty around us.”
“Me?” He shook his head. “Nope. I gotta call bullshit on that. I wasn’t the one moaning. I told you to be quiet or we’d have an audience.”
I laughed and let him help me out of the train when it stopped, thankful to leave behind the writhing bodies and smell of sex permeating the air.
It was awkward on the platform. I stood next to him; his hand wrapped around mine.
“Um, I need to go to the restroom.” I angled myself toward the room and took a step. “I’ll just be a minute.”
Before I could take another step he pulled me against him and I gasped. His mouth descended on mine, his tongue sliding between my lips, flicking against my own. He let go of my hand and cupped my cheek—it was such a sweet thing. I’d only know this man for an hour. I shared more bodily fluids with him than words. And he did something so sweet, so tender it made my heart ache. No one had ever cupped my face when they’d kissed me before. They were too busy grabbing other parts of my body. Which Rivers was doing with his other hand and I was very happy to let him.
I moaned into his mouth when he grabbed my hip and pulled me closer and ran his tongue along the outline of my ear, finally kissing the space just in front of it.
“You’re not going to ditch me are you?” His smile looked amused.
“Yeah, we have a hidden escape route in the last stall. We use it in case we have to ditch a hot guy we just had mind blowing sex with who wants to take us to dinner.” I returned his smile and he laughed, the sound making me wet all over again. And I thought, there wasn’t much point of me going to the restroom to clean up if everything he did made me wet.
“Okay, I’ll wait here.”
I hurried in the bathroom and did my thing. Thankfully, I always carried personal cleansing wipes with me. Not for that particular reason, though. Mother Nature had the habit of sneaking up on me at inopportune moments. So I stayed prepared and it served me well. In minutes I was fresh as a daisy and ready for dinner with Rivers…and then round two.
Rivers took me to a little restaurant in town. It wasn’t anything special, but it was nice. It didn’t have tacky checkered placemats or paper napkins. That was a plus and there were fresh peonies on the table. The blooms were huge and I touched one lightly as I scooted into our booth.
“It’s pretty.” Rivers nodded at the flower.
“Mmm,” I nodded, “I love peonies. I’m surprised they found them this time of year.”
Our booth was situated in the back of the restaurant away from everything. The entrance to the kitchen and the bathrooms were on the other side of the restaurant. Rivers must have noticed me looking because he smiled and turned his fork over and over on the table top. “My friend owns this restaurant. I asked for this booth.”
My heart sped up a little faster. Then I had a thought and my heart stalled. “Bring a lot of girls here?” I tried to play it off as a joke, but I was really interested. I don’t know why. I didn’t have a claim on him. I’d just fucked him in the subway—that’s it. This wasn’t going anywhere. And we both knew it.
Rivers looked in my eyes. “No. I don’t, actually.”
My heart started hammering against my ribs and butterflies took off in my stomach. I gave him a quick smile and looked down. His eyes were so open and honest and I wondered if we were both on the same page. Maybe one of us thought this…thing…going on between us was actually going to work into something.
He reached for my hand and wrapped his around it. “What are you hungry for? They have really good steaks.”
“Um...salads?”
“Oh! They have this grilled steak salad that is out of this world. I know it sounds disgusting. Everyone thinks so when they first hear about it, but if you like steak, but you’re not hungry enough for a whole steak dinner, trust me, and get the grilled steak salad.” He flicked the picture of the salad on the menu and sat back against the booth.
“Okay. The grilled steak salad it is.”
“Good. I’m going to go put our orders in so we don’t have to wait. What do you want to drink? A beer or wine or something?”
“Oh, no a Coke is good.”
He smiled. “Not getting you drunk tonight, huh?”
I chuckled softly. “I don’t drink.”
Rivers nodded once. “I don’t either. Well, not the hard stuff. I stick with Cokes. I’ll be right back.”
I nodded and watched him walk away. I looked around the restaurant and noticed that all the booths were secluded like ours. They were built into the side walls, surrounded by walls on three sides. It gave diners maximum privacy. Even the diners seated in the center of the restaurant at the tables had plenty of space between tables to give them privacy. I took my previous thought back. It was a nice place—and it was more than just a little restaurant, too. It looked expensive. I mentally started calculating which credit card had enough money on it to pay my tab.
“Okay, we’re all set,” Rivers said and slid next to me on the seat. He sat so close he touched me, but he angled his body so we could see each other to talk. “So tell me about you.”
“There’s not much to tell. I’m a publicist for a small publishing company. I work too many hours, get paid next to nothing, but love my job. You?” I smiled at the waitress when she set a Coke in front of me and I took a sip.
“I’m in finance, acquisitions mostly. I work too many hours, get paid pretty well and love my job.”
“Well, it sounds like we have a little in common. Relating to work, anyway.”
“And the subway.”
My cheeks turned hot. I knew they were red by the flaming heat radiating off them. I was so glad the part of the restaurant we were in was darkened. “Ah, the subway. Yes. We do seem to share some things in common there.” My breath came out raspy and hoarse. Rivers grinned. He knew exactly why.
“You’re thinking about it now, aren’t you?”
“Mm-hmm. And so are you.” I picked my Coke up and took a sip. When I sat my glass down he took my hand in his and laid it in his lap. He didn’t grind it against himself. He didn’t need to. His erection was evident.
“Of course I’m thinking about it. It was hot and you’r
e so fucking sexy.” He leaned over and took my ear lobe between his teeth. He alternated between sucking it and biting it. I bit my lower lip to hold in a moan.
“You know, some women are sexy. And you are. Sexy as hell. And some women are pretty, or even beautiful. And you are. Beautiful. Your auburn hair is thick and shiny with just a little curl. Your big hazel eyes. Soft, creamy skin. But there aren’t many women who can pull off being both sexy and beautiful without seeming arrogant. But you do.” He looked at me and one side of his mouth curved in a grin. “Either you don’t know you are both, or you’re extremely humble. Either way, the fact that you act like you don’t realize how fucking beautiful and sexy you are makes you even more so.”
He ran his hand over my hair. His eyes watched the movement. His other hand was still covering mine in his lap. He raised it to my face. The tips of his fingers grazed my skin like a butterfly’s wings. “It’s killing me sitting here beside you right now. I’m at war with myself. One side of me—the real me, the one who doesn’t go around having random sex in subway trains—wants to stay here all night and learn everything about you. The other side of me. The primal, raw side, the side you saw in that subway car, wants to pull you out of this booth and to my apartment and make love to you until neither of us can see straight.”
“Wow,” I said on a half laugh. “No one has ever said anything like that to me before. I…I, don’t know what to say. I think you’re damn near perfect, too. And now that I’ve had a chance to actually talk to you…” I shrugged a shoulder.
“What?” His hand fisted slightly in my hair.
“I’m finding that I might actually like you—”
My sentence was swallowed by his kiss. His hand tightened in my hair and his other cupped my cheek and pulled my face to him. His tongue slid across my lips and I opened for him. He didn’t need to be invited twice. His warm tongue delved into my mouth, touching every part.
His hand left my face and glided gently up my outer thigh. I moaned as a pool of warm wetness settled between my legs. Tightness coiled in my core and the familiar ache started to build. He gripped my hair tighter and exposed my neck. He planted open mouth kisses over the sensitive skin along the sides of my neck and across my collar bone.
I rubbed his growing cock through his jeans. He shifted in the booth to ease his discomfort and give me a better angle. My other hand massaged the back of his neck and my fingers ran through his hair.
Rivers kissed up my neck to my ear. “Julia,” he whispered in a ragged breath. “What are you doing to me? I’ve never done this before.”
I shook my head. “Me either,” I said, breathless. I nipped at his neck. He moaned at the slight pain, but I licked and suckled it away.
One of Rivers arms wrapped around my waist and pulled me as close to him as he could. One of my arms was trapped between us. I tried to free it. He smiled and winked. “It’s okay.” The hand on the arm around my waist grabbed my other hand and held it still. He moved to my ear and whispered, “I’m in the mood for dinner and a show.” He grinned when he pulled back and looked at me.
“What are you talking about?”
“Here you are,” a perky waitress said and sat our dinners in front of us along with refills of our drinks. “Is there anything else you need?”
“No, I think we’re all set. Thanks.” Rivers smiled at her. She practically swooned on the spot.
“Let me know if there is anything I can do for you.” When she was out of hearing range I looked at Rivers.
“What are you doing?” I jerked my hands, but he didn’t let them go.
“Dinner and a show, Julia. You’re gonna love it. And if you don’t, all you have to do is tell me to stop and I will. I won’t force you. Ever. Understand?”
I nodded. Somehow I believed him.
“Okay. Keep your eyes on me. That’s part of the show. Well, for me it is.”
The tips of his fingers on his free hand glided up my inner thigh. They started at my knee and burned a hot trail of raw desire straight to my pulsing sex. When he finally made it to my mound I was breathing so hard I was sure everyone in the restaurant knew what we were doing. I wanted him to touch me so badly. I needed him to touch me.
His fingers slid up the crook of one leg, over my mound and down the crook of my other. I squeezed my eyes closed and let out the most pathetic sounding whimper.
“Hmm, not the rules, baby. Open your eyes. Give me my show. I want to see you come,” he whispered against my lips before kissing me hard and deep. His finger still circling the crucial area I needed him to touch. When he lifted his head he smirked at me. “Why are you moving your hips? Do you want something? Tell me what you want, baby, and I’ll give it to you.”
“Touch me. Please.” It was barely a whisper, but it was all I could manager. I was locked in a fog of raw desire. It’s all I could feel.
“I am touching you.” He wiggled his finger against the inside of my thigh.
“Not there.” My head fell back on the seat back and rolled side-to-side. “My clit.”
“Like this, beautiful?” He rubbed his finger around my clit, pushing it up and down, back and forth, pulling on it gently. I moaned in answer. “Lift you head and look at me.” I did as he asked.
His fingers were moving over me. My hips moved faster and his fingers matched. I could feel the coil tighten between my legs. My juices dripped down my legs.
“Are you wet?” Rivers asked in a husky voice.
I licked my lips and nodded.
“Who are you wet for?”
I looked into his deep green eyes. “I’m wet for you, Rivers.”
“Christ.” His mouth took mine hard. He sank his teeth into my bottom lip before lapping it with his tongue. He pulled back just enough to tell me, “Say it again.” His lips tickled mine when he spoke.
“I’m wet for you. You make me so fucking wet it’s dripping down my legs.”
“Shit. I could take you on this table.” His grip tightened around my waist and on my arm. “I want you to come for me.” I started to close my eyes and he shook me. “No. Eyes stay open. Look at me. I want to see you come. I want to know I did it to you and I want you to look at me and know it’s my fingers in your pussy making you come.” His fingers still moved over my swollen clit.
“I’m close,” I panted. “I’m so close.”
“Tell me what you want.”
“Um…”
“Don’t be embarrassed, Julia. It’s okay. Just tell me what feels good. What will make your body release?”
“Okay…put…put two fingers inside me.” I let out a loud moan when his fingers slipped inside. Rivers covered my mouth with his to swallow the sound. “Oh, God, I’m so close.” I bucked my hips against his fingers. “Use your thumb,” I panted, “Use it to rub my clit while you fuck me with your fingers.”
Rivers pulled his fingers almost all the way out of my slit before shoving them back in. He did that several times and when his thumb rubbed over my clit…it was over. My body tensed a second before the sound ripped from my throat. That second was the only indication Rivers had to cover my mouth. He let go of my hand and place his hand over my mouth. The entire time his gaze never left mine.
My body rode the wave of ecstasy. It crashed into me over and over again. The orgasm was so intense my body was wracked with violent tremors. Minutes after it was over I still had waves of electrical currents shooting between my legs.
“Damn.” He still looked in my eyes. “You’re still shaking.” I gave him a small smile. I could feel my cheeks turn pink and broke his gaze. “Wait. Don’t do that. Look at me.” My eyes darted to his. “Don’t be embarrassed. That was the hottest thing I’ve ever seen. Definitely not something to be embarrassed about.”
I smiled again. This time a real smile. “Okay. It’s just…that was new.”
“What was?”
“All of it. The restaurant. A man I don’t know. Someone watching”
“Really? I understand the resta
urant and a strange guy, but if I had you in my bed,” he shook his head, “I’d watch you orgasm all the fucking time. That was the sexiest thing I’ve ever seen, Julia.”
“Oh, and one more thing that was new.” He raised a brow when I didn’t continue. “I’ve never had an orgasm that intense before.”
“Shit,” he groaned.
We made our way to the bathrooms to clean up before starting our meal. We stood in the hall waiting for our turn. Rivers held my hand in his. He turned it over and traced the patterns of lines on my palm.
“Are you in to palm reading?” I asked quietly.
He met my gaze. His fingers still trailed over my hand. “No. Are you?”
I shook my head and smiled. He looked down and chuckled. “Oh. Yeah, I guess it does look like I’m reading your palm or some shit like that doesn’t it?”
I bite the corner of my bottom lip and shrugged a shoulder. “It feels good whatever it is.”
A lady exited the women’s restroom and I pulled my hand from Rivers’ and smiled. “I’ll meet you back at the table.”
I turned and walked through the door when a force from behind propelled me forward. I stumbled. A hand grabbed my upper arm to steady me at the same time the door closed and locked. I turned and looked into the darkened green eyes of Rivers.
“I’m sorry,” he said and then his mouth crushed mine. His tongue slipped inside and swirled around my mouth, gliding against my tongue and covering it with his taste. A taste I was beginning to recognize, to crave.
The bathroom was actually two rooms. A stall where the toilet was and an outer room where the sink and a small chair and table were. It was as tastefully decorated as the rest of the restaurant and impeccably clean.
“I’m so sorry,” Rivers mumbled against my throat.
“For what?” I rasped.
“I’m not sure if this is better or worse than the subway. I wanted our next time somewhere nice. Classy.” He backed me toward the chair in the corner as he talked. His lips never left my body. He alternated between nipping my skin and kissing the spot afterward. “After watching you in the booth I have to have you again.”
