After The Event (Book 8): The Storm Page 14

by T A Williams

On the second or third day--Ally had stopped keeping count--they stopped again in a large, overgrown parking lot of what used to be a school. As they were led out Ally looked at the abandoned buildings and toward the old playground equipment. The wooden structures sat alone amongst the weeds with the silver slides gleaming in the sunlight. She smiled as she imagined climbing to the top of the structure and looking down at Joseph, who would be convinced she was going to kill herself. It was more than imagining; it was a long-lost memory. Dena sat on the ground eating the small portion of bread and soup that the soldiers handed out while Ally stood off to the side, still near the soldiers but far enough away she felt like she was by herself. One of the soldiers came up beside her and stopped. Ally kept her attention away from the man and waited for him to say something.

  “You Ally?” the soldier whispered.

Ally looked up at the solider and saw a skinny dark-complexioned man who barely filled out the fatigues he was wearing. He glanced over at her and then looked around quickly, making himself look extremely suspicious.

  “Why?” she asked.

The soldier stared at her hard and then smiled. “You are Ally, aren’t you? My name is Ty. B…I mean Ben, sent me.”

Ally felt a surge of excitement pass through her. “Ben--is he ok?”

“I set him free; he’s fine. He asked me to come find you and tell you something.”

  “Tell me what?”

“To hang tight. He’s getting help and he’s coming for you.”[VLM4]

[VLM1]Hey Taurean, good to work with you again! Thank you for entrusting me with your work. I’ll keep comments to a minimum, when something seems unclear or an edit requires explanation.

  [VLM2]What passed through his mind?

[VLM3]Weary or wary? Either would work here.

[VLM4]Ack! So frustrating that Ben and Ally are reunited and then promptly torn apart again! You really know how to keep the dramatic tension going!

I have made adjustments to grammar, spelling, and minor formatting, as needed, all with a view to ensuring clarity in your work.
