hearing people go, perhaps employees.
At a specific point, however, he stopped and they removed the cloth obstructing his sight.
Now he had two kinds of people surrounding him: soldiers and doctors, both dressed in white and wearing masks.
Around him were many operating tables and familiar figures being placed there.
The pregnant women brought from the city were being placed on the tables, naked, with white fabric covering parts of the body and exposing their bellies, with veins popping like roots.
Departing from among the other doctors came a man who seemed to have a position of importance among all there.
He didn't reveal his name, only shook hands with Sanchez and smiled behind the mask that hid his face.
He was short and old, but had courage in speech and reported everything he had heard about Carlos.
Confused, the man pointed only if the claims were correct or not, while being guided by the doctor to the last table operation.
Calmly, the old man said:
"You had a gesture of courage I couldn't find anywhere, and even challenged us to do our best, what we want to, but only with the advances we've had with our little experience in the city... So, please come with me and watch this simple procedure. "
At the table, they watched other doctors opening carefully the belly of the living dead, that was not numbed but couldn't feel any pain.
Carefully, they removed the tissue barriers to find what they wanted, the little fetus inside that body, surrounded by organic tissue and difficult to see from there until it was removed from the mother.
Without a lot of care with a zombie, they were too quick to remove the small child.
While the procedure happened, the old man almost whispered to Carlos:
"You know our virus? It's funny how it makes living dead so hungry, literally ... But you know what happens if a fetus is infected with it?
The virus changes ... improves, it improves in a way you can not imagine ...
But we have to remove the child in time, if not, the virus changes and new features lose their value ...
It's as if the virus variation dies if we let the zombie baby dependent on his mother for a long time ... ".
Little distressed by the scene, Sanchez asked:
"And what happens now with the baby and the mother zombie? They die after the operation?".
Smiling as if celebrating, the old man replied:
"On the contrary, my friend ... On the contrary ...
The mother also suffers a slight transformation that is different from the living dead, and the baby is improved.
We will nurture and take good care of them, to serve as the source to analyze this transformation ... These new roots of the original, primitive, virus.
They will not grow old nor die, but serve as a perpetual source to collect samples, interfere with more mutations ...
They are our gateway to a new world of experiences ... ".
Then the doctor asked Sanchez to follow him to the far north corner of the room, where they had large capsules, enough to fit anyone.
To the north, a huge metal gate stood out, with details resembling angelic figures.
There, Sanchez went to the point, wondering what was the purpose of it all.
In response, the doctor stood next to one of the capsules and said:
"We manufacture power ... Power in the form of transformation ...
Something like that moves the world, molds reality.
Imagine being able to prevent horrendous things or cause horrendous tragedies ... even prevent the worst moments of your life to happen to others... ".
But even with the emotional appeal, Carlos was suspicious, it was cold enough to capture the uncertainty of those words and answer:
"And if all this ends only used as a weapon, a tragedy factory, a mess without end?".
The doctor then, before answering, pointed to the capsule, asking the man to lie there.
Sanchez knew he had no choice, and resistence would only bring premature death.
Positioned in the capsule, he leaned back in and listened to the last words of the mad doctor.
"We go beyond weapons or strange mutations that would make your eye come out of place and grow in your shoulder, or give you strength to punch boulders ...
We want a difference, a better world, without the need of medicine, even if forged by fire.
We don't care if the Part A or B will use this as toys in wars, our aim is to make a better humanity by cleansing society.
And since I am just a worker here, I can only tell you that, even with all the risks... This research fascinates me."
Then the doctor pressed a button on the capsule, which brought down a lid and closed Sanchez inside.
He did not offer any resistance, but thought that now was his time to sink in a dream world, one "induced coma" as said the doctor out there.
But the final and most macabre sight didn't came from any of the staff, but from the gate door with angelic details.
It was like a work of art representing a number of angels around, all celebrating and worshipping a central figure, resembling a large vulture.
