A minute or two later and Winston stood up. “Here, Miranda, let me help you.” He pulled her up to stand and they all got dressed. Handing over jackets and pants, helping with her bra and dress. It was strangely sentimental. Calming.
James slipped on his jacket last and as soon as it hit his chest, his phone buzzed. With a frown, he pulled it out and the whole screen lit up with missed calls. Fuck. His secretary could only be interrupting for one reason. He swiped it on and answered.
“What is it?”
“Hello, Mr. Waters. You…asked me to call you if anyone else requested redemption.”
“And?”
“Mr. Gunnison, sir. He’s requested redemption of his entire investment. Wire transfer as soon as possible.”
James ran his hand down his face and glanced up at Winston. Another redemption. Christ. They needed to get a handle on what the hell was happening and fast. Before their hedge fund collapsed and they were out of a job. And billions of dollars. “Anyone else?”
“No, sir. Not yet.”
“Any idea why?” His secretary paused. “Hailey? Do you know why?”
“You should ask Mr. Stone, sir. He needs to tell you.” James turned around and watched his partner laugh as he smoothed Miranda’s hair.
“I see. Thank you, Hailey. I will.”
“You’re welcome, sir.”
He shoved his phone in his pocket and Winston glanced up. “Who was that?”
“Hailey. There’s been another redemption.”
Winston froze. “Who?”
“Gunnison. One hundred percent.”
Winston winced. “Did she say why?”
James leveled his gaze. “She told me to ask you.”
