Publicity Events
Traveling in a chartered Lear jet airplance, Jonathan Frid participated in a week-long Dark Shadows ten-city promotional tour in 1968. An itinerary follows:
Jonathan appeared at the airport in Atlanta, Georgia for photograph taking and autographs, followed by a press conference of approximately 35 high school newspaper editors at the Marriott Motor Hotel, in what local ABC-TV affiliate WQXI called a “Face to Fang Press Conference.” (May 18, 1968)
Jonathan appeared at the airport in Charleston, South Carolina for photograph taking and autographs, including a high school newspaper press conference. A police motorcade to the Pinehaven Shopping Center followed, where Jonathan was mobbed by an estimated 3,000 anxious fans, causing a scheduled autograph session to be cancelled. Three police cars were called in to the rescue. (May 20, 1968)

Jonathan appeared at the Lackey Field airport in Birmingham, Alabama for photograph taking and autographs on the runway. At City Hall, Jonathan was presented a key to the city by the mayor. (May 21, 1968)
Jonathan appeared at the Roscoe Turner Field airport in Indianapolis, Indiana for photograph taking and autographs. A high school newspaper press conference was held at Stouffer’s Inn for Jonathan and twenty-five teenagers. (May 21, 1968)
Jonathan appeared at Baer Field airport in Fort Wayne, Indiana, for photograph taking and autographs, followed by an appearance at the Glenbrook Shopping Mall, where Jonathan was mobbed by an estimated 12,000 fans. The roads surrounding the area were jammed and Jonathan was rescued by police and security guards. He also rode in a motorcade for the Three Rivers Festival. (May 22, 1968)
Jonathan appeared at the airport in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where he was greeted by more than 5,000 screaming fans. He was driven in a hearse with police escort to a hotel, where fans followed. A press conference for high school newspaper editors was also held. (May 22, 1968)

Jonathan appeared in Washington, D.C. at the Washington Hilton Hotel for a high school press conference with eighteen editors. A press luncheon was held the next day at Paul Young’s Restaurant. (May 23, 1968)
Jonathan (billed as “The cool ghoul Barnabas”) appeared at the Devon Horse Show Country Fair in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he was mobbed by enthusiastic fans and rescued by police. (May 25, 1968)

KDFI-TV sponsored a Dark Shadows Blood Drive at the Parkland Blood Bank in Dallas, Texas, and at Northlake College in Irving, Texas, to promote Dark Shadows reruns. Helpers were dressed as vampires and donors received a specially made Dark Shadows T-shirt. (October 31, 1983)
