“He don’t even understand that shit right now. Come here.”

“He’s a smart kid! Tell him his mother is dead,” I said, swatting his hands away.

  “Nah.”

“What about the funeral? You ain’t gonna let him go to the funeral?”

“Man, fuck that shit. She dead, and that’s that. Come on, my nigga. I ain’t got all day.”

He bent me over the bed and tried to ram his dick in me, but I was dry. This was not the time for sex. Finally, he grabbed some lube that I had on my dresser and put it all over his dick. Then he rammed it in. But that didn’t stop my rant.

“Bishop, I’m worried ’bout that kid,” I moaned as his dick sloppily went in and out of me. He must had put hella lube on his dick because his dick was hitting spots that it wasn’t supposed to. I clinched up and started to ease away, but he pulled me back by my thighs.

“Shut up and take this dick,” he said after smacking my ass.

“Ooooh, Bishop,” I said as he leaned down to bite the hell out of my back.

“The phone for you,” Pinky said as she walked in and put her phone to my ear. Bishop was still hitting it from the back. “It’s Shyro’s mom. She said she called your phone but you didn’t answer,” Pinky said.

I tried to get Bishop to stop fucking me, but he didn’t.

“Hello?” I answered, trying to sound as normal as possible. Bishop was hitting all my spots back there.

“He’s gone, Milo. Somebody killed my baby,” she cried.

“What? Shyro’s dead?” I asked, trying to sound as surprised as I could.

This must have excited Bishop because he started beating the pussy up. Pinky was looking shocked, not even paying Bishop any mind.

“He’s gone. Somebody shot my baby in cold blood.” She was crying heavily.

“Can I call you right back? This too much,” I lied.

“Okay, baby. Come by and see me later. Please.”

  “I will.”

  “Love you, baby.”

“Love you too.” I nodded my head to give Pinky the okay to hang up.

Instead of leaving, she sat on the bed. “Damn, I knew something was up,” she said.

“Yeah, that’s real fucked up,” I moaned as Bishop fucked me harder and gripped my ass.

“Who you think did it?” she asked.

“I don’t know. Probably them niggas he was beefing with in Jacksonville.

  “What niggas?”

“Remember? The nigga they called Fat Boy. Him and his crew.”

“Ooooh, yeah. Okay. Yeah that makes sense,” she said. Then she turned her attention on Bishop.

“Throw that ass back,” Bishop said.

  I threw it back.

Pinky leaned down to whisper in my ear. “Damn, he got stamina. Put some voodoo on him and make him fall in love. He cute as fuck.”

  “Go away.” I laughed.

PJ started crying, and she left to tend to him. As soon as she left, I came harder than ever, and so did Bishop. Came right inside of me.

“Damn, girl,” he said as he smacked my ass and plopped down on the side of me.

“Shit,” I said as I turned over and laid on his chest.

“So they just found him?” Bishop asked. I looked to make sure my door was closed.

  “Yes.”

  “Good. Fuck that nigga.”

I didn’t respond. I was still in shock. Can’t believe I saw him kill Shyro in cold blood.

“What you ’bout to do?” he asked.

“Go see his mom. Might have her watch PJ while I go to work.”

“Yeah? Well, I’ll holla at ya later. Might come to the club to make sure them niggas stay in line,” he said as he threw his clothes back on.

“Where do you live?” I asked.

  “Here.”

  “Where?”

  “Why?”

“Because I really don’t know shit about you. Starting to feel like you used me to take PJ off your hands so you can make moves.”

  “What if I did?”

  “Why?”

“Because women love kids. I don’t. Come lock the door,” he said as he smacked my ass one last time and left. He didn’t even check on PJ before he left. Whatever.

I took a shower and put me and PJ some fresh clothes on. Yesterday, I went and bought him some new clothes and shoes. Lil’ man was looking fresh. After I got us dressed, I headed over to the projects where Shyro’s mom stayed. The sun was going down, so the madness was starting. The way people were driving, I was happy that I had copped PJ a car seat. Drunk drivers ran the city around this time.

Man, I hated that Shyro had put Bishop in a spot to kill him. All he had to do was leave me alone, but he wanted to follow me around the city and stalk me. Guilt was starting to eat at me the closer I got to his mom’s place. What if she could read my face and tell that I was lying?

This was all fucked up. I was over him, but I didn’t want him to die. If that was the case, I would have let Glory kill him months ago. What if I got brought up on charges? What if someone placed me at the scene? Damn! And then PJ’s mom was dead. Life was getting weird as hell, and I didn’t like it. Why was it going like this?

“Ma… ma,” PJ said from the back seat.

“I’m not your mama,” I said as a tear ran down my face. Everything was starting to feel wrong. And shit didn’t start getting weird until I started fucking with Bishop.

Finally, I pulled up at the building. Bad ass kids were running around and shooting each other with water guns. Junkies were smoking rock on the stoops. I held PJ tight as I ran to Sharon’s place. That was Shyro’s mother’s name.

“Aye, miss. You got a dollar?” My junkie uncle asked when I almost stepped on him. Dumb ass was laid out on the sidewalk.

“Nah,” I said dryly as I ran to her door and knocked. I couldn’t believe I used to live here. Hell, I grew up here.

“Hey, baby,” Sharon said as she hugged me and pulled me in.

She was a mess. As much weight as she had lost over the past few months, I was starting to wonder if she was headed down that junkie road.

I sat down and we talked for a minute until I told her that I had to go. I was about to ask her to watch PJ, but I changed my mind when I saw how bad she had gotten. She’ll fuck around and sell PJ.

“It was sure nice seeing you,” she said as she hugged me. I backed up when I felt her reach her hands down into my purse.

  “What the fuck?” I asked.

“I just need a few dollars. Please,” she begged.

I shook my head and tossed her a twenty. She was on that shit now, and I saw it in her face.

“Bye, Sharon,” I said with much pity as I opened the door to leave.

“They say they have a witness, so that’s a good thing,” she said.

I jerked my head around. “Huh? A witness was there?” I asked.

“Yeah. Some kid say he was walking his dogs in the woods and saw who it was. Say it was a man, woman, and he heard a baby.”

  Chapter Twenty-Three

  Divine

“So I gotta sleep on the couch?” Neiman asked. I shot her a look that told her to leave me the fuck alone. She got the picture and got the fuck up outta my face. “Nice place, though.”

“Malina, did you call Glory?” I asked.

She was on the couch watching TV sitting Indian style.

“Nah, he called me. Say they been waiting for us ’cause the block got rid of that,”

“Why you calling Glory?” Neiman asked.

Before Malina could respond, I did. “We getting money, bitch! Don’t come up in here with that bullshit. I’m not playing, Neiman. I will politely send ya mothafucking ass back to the D with not a pot to piss in. Word to Allah. I ain’t playing,” I said as I took the fish out that I was about to fry.

We had just made it back to Miami and stopped at the market so I could fry some fish and fries.

“I wasn’t on no beef shit. Just that he can answer her calls but can’t answ
er mine,” she said as she came in the kitchen to get a glass of wine.

“He out here getting money, Neiman. We not out here broke. We hustle so a lot of time we don’t have time to talk. You keep getting this paper with us and you will see,” Malina said from the couch.

“So where do I come in?” she asked.

“Just chill. When we get this money for PJ, we will worry ’bout all that. For now, just keep the drama down and chill. Cool?” I asked.

“Well can I at least go to the beach and mingle?” she asked.

“Damn, bitch. Are you that afraid of being alone?” Malina asked.

“Just don’t tell people from Dallas where we are. But you can go out. I ain’t tripping. Just be smart,” I said.

“Can we get PJ before you start tryna get a new nigga?” Malina added.

“Malina, chill,” I said as I dropped my first batch of fish into the pan.

“So when did you start fucking with women?” Neiman asked.

  I smiled. “Been like that.”

  “Since when?”

“Since forever. And I really like Chola.”

“But that bitch a fucking lunatic, yo. Malina, you saw the way that bitch cut her eyes at me when I started to ask questions?” Neiman asked.

“Yeah, but that’s just Chola. She don’t mean no harm,” I said as I poured myself a glass of wine also.

Malina came over to the kitchen and sat on top of the cabinet. “Man, have you thought about what all could go wrong, tho?” Malina asked.

“Yeah. But I’m not worried ’bout it,” I lied.

We had started off delivering money. Then a brick. Now ten. The world was starting to spin like money made it go like that.

“Yeah, we could go to the feds. You know that, right?” Neiman asked.

“Hell yeah. One brick is a life sentence,” Malina said.

So now they finally wanted to agree on shit.

“What… y’all scared? I don’t wanna hear that shit, ’cause you hoes never complain when the money is coming in. Especially you, Malina.”

“I’m just saying. This some scary shit. Chola sent us back with a shit load of guns,” Malina said.

  “For protection,” I said.

“But it’s the fact that we need it though,” Neiman countered.

“So what? If y’all wanna back out, do it now. ’Cause y’all know what we could face, and I don’t wanna keep y’all against y’all will. I understand. But understand me when I don’t break y’all off shit when the money rolling in,” I said.

“I’m in,” Neiman said with much hesitation.

“You already know I’m in,” Malina said.

“Well, that’s all I need to hear. Just know that no matter what, we fam. I want you two to always keep that in mind. Yeah, we fight, but forgive each other like I forgave every last one of y’all for fucking me over,” I said.

“I never fucked you over,” Neiman said.

“You fucked me over by being so goddamn slow,” I snapped back.

  “But how am I slow?”

  “Just shut up, Neiman.”

On the real, Malina had put a lot on my mind. Like… this shit could really turn sour real fast, and our whole lives could change. Was I ready for jail, death or murder? No. But then again, name one person who is. I’d just have to deal with that shit whenever I crossed that bridge.

We should have stopped while we were ahead, but we played the game. A game that most would call Russian Roulette.

  Chapter Twenty-Four

  Malina

“Just shut up, Neiman,” Divine said.

I hopped off the counter and went into my room. Though I hated to admit it, Divine was right. I fucked her over, and I needed to be more mindful of how I treated others. But fuck that, though. Neiman was on her own and I meant it. She always had some nigga over her own fam. The only reason a nigga wasn’t over us this time is because she didn’t have one for real.

When I got to my room, I looked down at the city. Sooner or later, someone down there would try to come for us, and that was a fact. From what Glory said, it was a drought, and niggas been salivating for that white. Junkies and drug dealers. The junkies missed the feel. The dealers wanted that money. And I did too.

As I was lying in bed, my mama called me, but I didn’t answer. I had something really nice planned for her. She just didn’t know it yet. The little bit of respect I had for her was gone. She was dead to me; meant nothing.

How could a parent just sit back at home, knowing her daughter was about to get violated like I did? That shit was crazy. She didn’t give one fuck about me.

After giving her too much thought and energy, I turned my Pandora on and let the slow jams play until I dozed off.

I didn’t get to sleep for long because my phone started to ring again, but this time it was Slick.

“Hello?” I asked, laying the phone on the side of my face so I wouldn’t have to hold it.

“I just made it to Miami. Where you at?” he asked.

  Chapter Twenty-Five

  Neiman

“Whats up Di… Neiman?” Glory asked as I answered the door. I was pissed at him for ignoring me, so I kept it short.

“Hey,” I let him and his homies in.

“Glory, my mans,” Divine greeted him like she was one of the fellas. Well, since she liked bitches now, I guess she was.

“Love, when I tell you niggas been buggin’. Just waiting for y’all to get back with it,” he said as he and his dudes sat on the luxurious couch. I sat across from them.

“I’ll be back later,” Malina said as she stormed out of the condo. I don’t even think she noticed that Glory was there now. That’s how fast she was moving.

“Well, what y’all need this time?” Divine asked.

“Me, Kipp, and Lu Lu want two apiece. You got that?”

“Yeah. I really got ten that I need to get up off of.”

“Yeah? Well I know a few more niggas. But you have to meet them. I wouldn’t bring them here if I were you,” Glory said.

  “Why not?” I asked.

“Never do business out ya personal crib. Duh, dummy,” Divine said.

“So find me some niggas that need four,” Divine said.

“Shit, that’s easy. All I gotta do is hit my mans up. I can call them niggas now if you want,” Glory said, pulling out his phone.

“Nah, don’t talk on the phones,” Divine said.

“I talk in codes,” Glory responded as he dialed and put the phone on speaker.

  “Yo,” the dude answered.

“Ay, you hungry? Want me to get you some food while I’m out?” Glory asked.

“Yeah, what’s on the menu?” The dude asked.

“Shit… me, Kipp and Lu Lu copped ten burgers, but only ate two apiece. So it’s four left.”

  “Word? Extra cheese?”

“Nigga, its plenty cheese on it.”

  “Bet, hold me four.”

“Bet, because that’s all we had left. Meet us in about an hour at my aunt’s house,” Glory said before hanging up.

  “Damn, like that?” Divine asked.

  “Told you.”

“So how much we owe y’all? I’m ready to take that shit back to the hood,” Kipp said as he rubbed his hands together and licked his lips.

“You already know,” Divine said as each man placed their money on the table.

“Hold up,” Divine said as she went to get a black machine.

She started to separate the bills and put them into the machine. It appeared to be counting it. Wow. Technology was sick.

While the money was counting, I asked Glory could I talk to him in private. He agreed and walked with me to Malina’s room. I shut the door and went the fuck off.

“So why you can’t talk to me now that you’re here?” I asked.

“I been getting money, love. I apologize,” he said as he sat on the bed.

“You been fucking with that bitch?” I asked. I don’t know why. He wasn’t g
onna do shit but lie.

“I have, but not lately. Been getting paper, and I ain’t got the time.”

His response shocked the hell outta me. “So what happened to all that shit you was talking ’bout helping me love myself and shit?”

“Ma, I’m doing that. All I want you to do is be cool while I get this money. Shit, get a hobby or something then you wouldn’t be so mad. Get on ya grown woman shit.”

“So you expect me to accept you and that bitch?”

“I don’t expect you to do shit but be who you are. If you choose to stay, then cool. But I have fucked shawty since I been back. I ain’t gonna lie.”

“I thought you cared ’bout me?”

He laughed. “I fucks with you, love, on the strength of you being so transparent. But give a nigga time to really really care.”

“But you really really fucked me the other week, so I thought that meant something.”

“I get pussy on the regular.”

  “What that mean?”

“Pussy ain’t shit. I can’t have you ’round this bitch clocking my every move. I told you what you needed to know. So what else do you want?”

“I want to know was all that shit you told me a lie to fuck?”

“It wasn’t a lie. And if you wanna be with me, Neiman, you can. We can be together. I fucks with Pinky from time to time, but I swear to God it won’t interfere with what we got going on.”

  “Like that, huh?”

“I’m telling you what it is so you can never say I lied to you. I’m young, getting money, and living life. I mean… sooner or later, I’ma want to settle down.”

  “Just not today, right?”

  “Right.”

  “Damn.”

“But don’t let this affect how you feel about yourself. It’s nothing you’re doing wrong. Feel me? It’s just that I’m young, Neiman. I’m living. But I really want you to stick around.”

“Why? So you can break my heart?”

“I’m not trying to, love. Just saying, if I lie ’bout her, I’d be a hoe ass nigga. But I’m telling you. I’m giving you the right to decide of you wanna fuck with me or not,” he said as he stood up to hug me. He leaned down with his dreads all in my face.

“You love her, don’t you?” I asked.
