“We saved the world today.” Gretchen’s eyes were shining and I was lost in them. It felt good.
I squeezed Gretchen’s hand and finally looked away to Lucifer. “Uncle Lew, come on. You’re telling me with magic Spears, Fiery Swords, and Bon Jovi, that there isn’t some Fountain of fucking Youth? No magic golden calf we can stroke off to live forever? No Holy Grail? I mean even if we have to find the Ark of the Covenant first then some magic stones in India…”
“Temporal chronologically,” Gretchen interjected, “Temple of Doom comes first, then Raiders, then Last Crusade.”
“I’m just saying,” I looked to Lucifer, “you’re telling me there’s not a loophole for eternal life or immortality or shit that she and I can exploit? Cause if we live forever, the Will isn’t going to happen, is it?”
It is a simple fact. The best parts of my plans are the ones I make up on the spot.
Lucifer smiled.
