The governor nodded, then glanced down at his baby. “We are.”
He looked straight at the vid screen, at us. “You two are welcome here, any time. You are family.”
Having the governor say that meant a lot. I hadn’t been the easiest resident and neither had Mak. “That’s kind of you and we will keep that in mind,” I said.
“But you’ll roam the universe in your stolen Hive ship and hunt for the other Nexus units.”
“That’s off the record, Maxim. We’ll keep in touch,” I said.
“Promise?” Rachel asked.
“I promise.”
She nodded.
I looked to Mak. Smiled. All was right with our world. Our world was this ship. Each other. The universe.
We’d go visit on the Colony, someday. For now, I was content with Mak.
Happy.
Loved.
Free.
