“Oh… aah.” Blue’s soft sighs increased his desire. “You sound sure that the person is just that, uhm, human,” she said softly.
Simon smiled, alternating his touches and tugs to her nipple. “No, I wouldn’t say that, but whoever it is, appears to pass freely among day dwellers as easily as the nighttime ones. But we have strayed from your question. Why now? Is it too trite to paraphrase ‘of all the gin joints in all the world, she walked into mine’?”
“So, this is an accident.”
Simon heard the thinly disguised hurt in her voice. “Partly, but it would have happened soon. How many men have told you that you are beautiful, Blue? You were precious and angelic like a cherub as a child, but I never guessed you would surpass your mother in your beauty. Your face must be what Helen of Troy looked like in order to launch a thousand ships to war. Your body more than fulfills the passionate promise. Beautiful breasts with long, hard nipples.”
Simon moved quickly and took her nearest nipple into his mouth. Lapping at the hard nub with his tongue, he began suckling the pearly pink flesh when he heard her muffled moan. Without pause, he moved his hand beneath her short skirt and pulled the silky panties down her legs. His groan was unstoppable as he felt her legs move further apart. Hiding his surprise at the completely hairless womanly mound, he used her slickness to slip two fingers inside. He then eased beneath the thin hood and moved his slippery wet digits over her clit.
“Oh my God!” Blue cried as the first involuntary response shook her body.
Simon released her nipple as he saw the intensity of her reactions. Increasing his manipulation, he deliberately used his fingers to tease her clit and work her into a near frenzy approaching orgasmic release. Three times, he took her to the peak and then slacked off until she was nearly calm. The third time her hands clawed at his shoulders. Teasingly, he would insert a finger or two inside her, letting her hump his digits seeking release.
“Finish it! Take me, Simon. Please… now!” Blue shouted her demand even as her eyes glazed over, revealing that she could no longer ignore her needs.
Slowly, Simon started the fourth time, teasing and working Blue’s body into an even more tightly coiled wire, ready to spring. He was going to leave it at that, give her the release she craved. But watching her body writhing and jerking, seeing how her breasts bounced and jiggled, he couldn’t stop. Faster and faster, he stimulated Blue’s body. Nearly constant jerks and muscular reflexive contractions came from deep inside, and then she climaxed.
“God!” Blue screamed.
Simon ignored all of his good intentions. Deftly, he unzipped his pants, freed his rock-hard cock and thrust into her cunt. He tried to hold himself perfectly still so he could savor the feeling of her climax happening all around his rod. Closing his eyes, he relished the fireworks of nerves twitching and muscle spasms. It seemed to go on and on until finally Simon could no longer hold back. Thrusting quickly and deeply, he reached his peak of arousal and shot his semen into Blue.
Shuddering in the aftermath, Simon opened his eyes to look at the woman who filled his dreams each day while he tried to sleep. He could still feel the tiny shivers and shakes of her innermost flesh around his softening cock. This had been sweeter and more fulfilling than he had ever imagined. For nine years, he had waited for the time to be right, and he would have gone longer, if need be. She was the only woman he’d desired for a very long time. Hell! He’d never felt this kind of need before.
Why now she had wondered, Simon thought while he let his eyes roam over her face. Her dark brown lashes made lush half moons with her eyes closed as they were now. Her lips were slightly parted as she pulled air into her body. In the darkness lit only by the pale moonlight and stars, her skin could have been the finest of porcelain to ever grace a royal table. She was so beautiful and desirable that she made him ache to stay inside her until she climaxed once more.
Blue groaned softly.
Simon realized that he would have to leave her warm cocoon for now. He smiled as he heard the wet plop of his cock pulling out of her tightness with audible reluctance. His feelings were earthy and undeniably human, and he didn’t give a damn. All he wanted was to get inside her again, and again, and—
The moment he lay back onto the lounge, Blue sprang off. Shock went through him at her impulsive action. He’d figured he would peel her clothes the rest of the way off, and then toss his off. After he’d covered them with a blanket in case she got cold, they would look at the stars. He would gaze at her, until his flesh recovered. The chaise groaned as he started to rise.
Blue shook her head. “No! Please don’t get up. I need to get going anyway,” she spoke quickly.
Simon couldn’t believe she was walking away after such mind-blowing, life-altering sex! “Blue, you can’t leave now, we should talk.”
“Tomorrow, we will talk then. I have obligations—” She choked off the last word as she ran away.
He considered following her, in one way or another, but he sensed that going against her wishes now wouldn’t be the wisest way to act. He hated the idea, but logic dictated that he’d have to wait.

The sun was rising and Blue still stood on the rooftop of her building. She was hoping that once she saw the sun, everything in her little corner of the world would miraculously become clear once again.
Feeling the beginning warmth of the sun, Blue turned to face the light. She’d spent the whole night avoiding the fact that she’d done something so stupid she was loath to admit it even to herself. It didn’t matter that her father was a vampire, or her uncle, either. Of course, her parents would have a fit if they ever found out that she’d slept with… No one had done any sleeping. Her logic forced her to be honest. Sex was how she’d consider the unfortunate interlude in the future.
The truth was that she should not be thinking about what had happened, or wondering if it might occur again. What she needed to think about was whether or not she was going to tell Jordan or Taryn what had happened. She and Jordan had always been much closer than most brothers and sisters probably were. Sharing their day’s activities with one another was a common occurrence, rather than a rarity.
Suddenly, she turned from the stone balustrade and sank into a squatting position. Arms wrapped tightly around her knees, she began to cry. Although hard to accept, the truth was she had wanted Simon to make love to her and she had done nothing to stop him. What she feared more than anything else was the real truth—she’d fallen for him nine years earlier in Vienna. Part of her had known this all along. Wasn’t that the real reason she’d written to him? The chance of rejection certainly had not deterred her, and his letter had hurt more than she’d thought she could bear.
Nothing she said or did, now or in the future, could change the fact that she had loved each and every touch of his hands upon her body. Closing her eyes, it was almost too easy to recall the exciting sensations she’d felt as his hands caressed her flesh. The cool night air barely had time to give her goose bumps and he was there, caressing the cold away and replacing it with tingling, burning fire. The feeling of his cock inside her was the most intensely intoxicating she’d ever imagined in any of her dreams. The passion he’d aroused had burned so wildly, and tumultuously, that it frightened her.
If only she’d left after seeing the rooftop glass enclosure rather than allowing his persuasive voice and sexy gaze to seduce her much too easily into joining him on the lounge. When he touched her skin, she had felt more than just hot, but in danger of combusting into open flames. With the safety of distance, she admitted she should have been more resistant, or at least more careful.
The attraction she felt would only make any future meetings between them awkward. The trouble would be how to avoid seeing him now that she had released the floodgates. Even now, it seemed almost too easy to recall how wonderfully sensual she had felt as he made love to her.
An old phrase kept circling through her head about cows, free milk, barn doors and that
it was too late—
“Hey!”
Blue quickly rubbed the tears from her cheeks, looking up to see Taryn walking towards her. “Is something wrong? You’re up early.” She came to her feet quickly before Taryn reached her.
“Jordan called me, wondering if I’d seen you. Sorry I didn’t wait for you at the club last night,” Taryn explained with a shrug and a smile.
Blue looked at her younger cousin. She was struck by the fragile appearance to her slender body. Guilt over not even thinking to check on Taryn before she’d taken off last night rushed through her. While they may have gone there separately, sticking together was often the way to stay alive. “Me, too. I’m still reeling over the fact that Simon has sons.”
Taryn nodded. “And such a damned good-looking one at that, too.”
Blue jerked her head around to look at her cousin. Had she heard her cousin correctly? Did Taryn think Simon was attractive? Or had she meant the son, Damon? She hadn’t really thought about it, but she could agree with Taryn. Damon Ruthven was one hot-looking vampire, as was Simon. “I wonder if his other son is just as attractive.”
Taryn’s mouth gaped open in surprise as she looked at Blue before speaking. “He has two sons? And nobody knew about them, right?”
“Well, we need to call the folks,” Blue agreed, nodding. “I’m pretty sure that none of them knew. Maybe even Fauster had been kept in the dark.”
“I guess so, although it seems odd that Fauster didn’t know. Who do you think his wife is?” Taryn perched on the balustrade. “You think she is living at that castle of his in Transylvania?”
Blue barely heard what Taryn was saying. Her brain was still processing a fact that she’d been avoiding since learning about Simon’s sons—a wife, a mother would have been required. Hearing Taryn say the word and accepting that perhaps this unknown woman was still a part of Simon’s life shocked her. There she’d been waltzing along, happily lost in her erotic daydreams. Had she slept with a married man? A married vampire? Wait! Didn’t she ask Simon about his sons’ mother, and his wife? He’d told her that he’d never been wed, but vampires notoriously lied to get what they wanted. Right? Rubbing the bridge of her nose, she couldn’t get rid of the headache starting inside her skull. She was going crazy and that was it.
Or, maybe she just needed sleep?

Talk about an uncomfortable phone call! Unfortunately, in Blue’s opinion anyway, they caught their grandparents and both sets of parents together. Chaos wasn’t strong enough a word to describe the conversation that ensued.
Hunter’s voice cut through the noise and jumble of voices on the European side of the conversation. “Stop! Everyone needs to just shut up for a minute!” Silence ensued and Hunter spoke again, more quietly. “Please tell us again the facts only. We will deal with the other issues later.”
Blue looked at Taryn, who looked as unhappy as she did at that moment. Jordan looked entirely too complacent, in her opinion. Of course, he hadn’t gone into Club Hell Fire. Also, neither set of parents assumed he should be held responsible for not stopping them.
Not that he could have, Blue rationalized silently. Taking a deep breath she repeated the facts. “Simon is here, in New York City, staying at Club Hell Fire. Also, he has two sons, Damon and Darien.”
“Damon is now the owner of the club,” Taryn added softly. “He has been for twenty years.”
“That’s interesting,” Iain spoke, his voice sounding fairly calm. “Fauster never said a word about any of this.”
Blue heard the concern in her father’s voice, which she was sure he’d thought was better concealed.
“Nor to me, darling,” AnnaBelle interjected.
“Lamenta gave no indication that she knew about Simon’s sons,” Tatiana’s voice came over the line clearly. “And somehow I’m sure she would have brought it up during the times he visited.”
“If I remember correctly,” Hunter added a few seconds later. “Fauster said that Simon stopped bumming a place to stay with him around that time.”
“As I recall, AnnaBelle, even though we found Fauster holed up in the club with Simon, neither said anything about Ruthven owning the joint,” Iain said to his wife.
“To be honest, Iain, I don’t remember. I was a bit of a basket case right then,” AnnaBelle answered her husband.
Silence followed her words until Taryn spoke up a few seconds later. “Well, Damon and Simon are going to help us investigate. Both swear they know nothing about the changes.”
Blue closed her eyes as pandemonium reigned on the other side of the phone line. She’d planned on keeping that part secret until they knew a little more. Now she was hearing exactly what she’d anticipated would be the reaction to that bit of news.
“No way! Taryn, I forbid you to have anything at all to do with the two of them.” Hunter admonished his daughter louder than the others.
“Definitely not. Blue, you and Taryn stay away from them. Perhaps Pete could reach out to some of his police contacts and see what’s been going on,” Iain added a second later.
Blue saw her cousin opening her mouth and she reached over and pressed her fingers over her lips, stopping her. Quickly, she spoke into the speakerphone. “You are right, and we will go through Pete like you suggest. If you discover anything new, you can email one of us, or call. Once Pete gets some answers, we will update you.”
Goodbyes were said, but not quickly, as was the usual for their extended families. Blue was glad to disconnect the line.
“Why did you say that, Blue?” Taryn questioned her older cousin immediately. “You know that Pete has tried his police buddies and has come up blank each time.”
Blue stood and stretched backwards. “I know, kiddo, but there was no way our parents were going to drop the topic of us working with Simon and his son. Right or wrong, I don’t think we have a choice if we want to get to the truth of this thing.”
Taryn nodded slowly. “I hate lying to my parents.”
“I know, and you suck at it. That’s why I had to shut you up and get us off the line before you blew it. I’ve bought us one, maybe two days, to see what we can turn up with the count and his son.” Blue walked over to the window, looking upwards at the sky. The sun was shining brightly, but then it was only ten in the morning. “I didn’t sleep too well last night, so I’m going to catch a few hours.
“Wake me if I’m not up by five, okay?” Blue asked as she started towards her bedroom. She heard Jordan agree as she shut the door behind her.
Pulling off her clothes, she realized two things. First, she still wore what she’d had on last night. She was lucky Taryn hadn’t noticed. Second, she’d left her panties with Simon on his rooftop in her mad rush to get out of there. Disgusted with herself and the lack of control she’d exhibited in the last thirty-six hours, she climbed into bed and pulled up the covers over her head.
Chapter Five
Taryn stood slowly, not sure if she should return to her place or not. She’d noticed Blue was wearing the same clothes she’d seen her in last night. While she didn’t want to call attention to the fact in front of Jordan, she was worried about her cousin. No matter that she was a few years older.
Growing up, it was always the three of them, together. They’d been the musketeers before Jordan’s accident, saving all kinds of imaginary people. She didn’t remember too much about the actual act of the car coming up onto the curb. She’d felt Jordan push her so hard that she fell into the street. Afterwards, she learned that the car had hit Jordan, tossing his body through the air.
She’d hit her head pretty hard on the cement, but in the confusion no one really noticed the blood which had matted her hair until they’d been at the hospital for a few hours, waiting news about Jordan. A large section of her hair had to be shaved so they could stitch the wound and clean the surrounding area. The emergency room doctor had wanted to do some tests, but she’d gotten so upset at leaving everyone, the physician agreed to wait, so long
as she stayed in the hospital. Eventually, they had discovered that she had a concussion and some bleeding beneath her skull. But that had been forgotten when they learned that Jordan would most likely never walk again.
The accident had pretty much changed all of their lives, not just Jordan and his parents. Jordan required a lot of care, and that fact led to both families moving into Lamenta’s building. By that time, Lamenta was living only on the top floor, and the second and third floors had been converted into living space for Iain, AnnaBelle, Blue and Jordan. Prior to the accident, Taryn spent more than half her time upstairs with her great-aunt Lamenta and her parents mainly lived on the fourth floor.
Hunter and Iain took turns sleeping at Fauster’s during the early weeks while AnnaBelle and Tatiana shared the nursing duties for Jordan. Blue was moved into Taryn’s room, and Taryn moved in with Lamenta. For quite some time, she and Blue had been kind of forgotten, but it was expected, Lamenta explained to the two girls frequently. For her, living with Lamenta had been more than just a home—it had turned into a life-altering experience.
Jordan’s voice interrupted her retrospection. “Even though neither of you asked, Pete was going to see if he couldn’t come up with some new leads. Chey was supposed to spend yesterday checking her former contacts. She thought she had a lead through a guy she used to work with on the international scene. The big surprise to the three of us was that both Blue and you weren’t home.”
Taryn watched as Jordan wheeled his chair towards his computer station, which was at the opposite end of the loft from the kitchen. She’d hoped she’d been able to sneak out and visit Club Hell Fire without detection. To find Blue there had been enough of a shock, let alone what had happened next. Knowing Jordan, Pete and Chey were aware of her absence only made her feel worse, especially since she was pretty sure both Pete and Chey would feel the need to discuss it.
