Epilogue

That stupid werewolf was getting on my last nerve!
I still couldn’t believe Gryph had just allowed me to move back to my own home when I was no longer in danger. This wasn’t about me liking domineering men. That hadn’t changed. I was still in charge of my life, but it would be nice if Gryph had been just a little domineering. Instead, when I’d left the hospital and joked about him getting his privacy back, he’d grunted and taken me back to my place.
He wasn’t avoiding me. Instead, Gryph was going to great lengths to court me. He still insisted on using that term. He would pick me up, take me out for an evening, and then drop me at home. I hadn’t even been able to convince him to come in and make me scream his name.
Tonight, I was putting an end to this nonsense.
“You’re awfully quiet, Sass,” Gryph remarked as he regarded me from the other side of the table. “Is something bothering you?”
“Yes, it is,” I told him with a tight smile.
He looked worried. “Is it the wound on your thigh? You’ve been spending too much time on your feet. I should have insisted you take more time off work.”
I grinned at my bossy werewolf. Even though I had no intention of letting him push me around, his bossiness had somehow become more endearing than annoying. “This is not about my thigh,” I insisted. “That’s actually healing much faster than it should be.”
“I guess you gained some of my healing ability from our bond,” he mused. “That’s strange. I didn’t expect more than my mark to heal quickly.”
“Don’t change the subject,” I told him.
“I didn’t realize I was changing the subject. We were talking about you healing quickly,” he said around a laugh.
“Do you still want me?” I finally asked.
“You have no idea how much I want you,” he uttered. “It’s a struggle to leave you at your door each time we go out.”
“Why are you leaving me at my door?” I demanded.
“You’re gonna have to help me out here, Sass,” he began. “We agreed I’d court you, and that’s what I’m doing.”
“We’re already bonded, Gryph,” I reminded him.
“I know,” he replied. “I just want you to have everything. Lately, I’ve realized how much I’ve taken from you by pushing you to be with me like this. I didn’t give you a chance to have a proper witch courtship.”
Moving around the table, I stood before Gryph and reached out a hand. He immediately placed his hand in mine and got to his feet.
“I love you, Gryph,” I began.
“I love you, too,” he replied.
“Don’t interrupt me,” I told him.
“Sorry,” he said with twitching lips.
“I really need you to stop trying to decide what’s best for me,” I told him. “If you want to know what I need, just ask.”
“What do you need, my sassy witch?” he murmured as his arm slipped around my lower back to pull me close.
“You,” I told him. “I just need you.”
“Then why don’t we go pick up your familiar and get you moved into my house?” he suggested. “If that’s what you need.”
“That is exactly what I need,” I assured him with a contented sigh.
