Escape To Vampire Dam (Dark Heart Heroes Book 1) Page 7

by S. N. McKibben

Slowly the vampires of Calif’s clutch assembled in front of the head vampire.

Jason started walking towards the main doorway and I went with him.

“I have to do this. To keep you safe.” He took my hand.

“Whatever.” I pulled away from him. It was selfish but the pain of losing him made intimate contact unbearable.

We said nothing until we got to the main entrance.

“Don’t we need every vampire we can get with those things out there?” I stood protectively in front of the computer access panel that opened the door.

Jason tried to nudge me out of the way. But his superior strength seemed to fade during the day. “Don’t worry about them. They can’t get in.”

  “The hell they can’t.”

“Blaze wouldn’t let a single one of them pass through that door.” Jason bore his cloud blue eyes upon me. Viper quick arms grabbed me. Jason kissed me in frantic desperation.

Calif went on about his diatribe about rule one and rule two. Kabal separated us and took me a safe distance away.

I couldn’t watch this. Hearing Jason scream, watching him burn. No way. Call me a coward if you will.

Struggling out of Kabal’s arms, I ran back to Yiran.

Pirate Steve carried the torch while I jostled a pair of jeans, boots and a T-shirt over my protruding belly. We’d been coming down this abandoned corridor every day for a week.

Eleven months ago I’d used a shovel, a bucket of water and the safety of daytime to extinguish my vampire lover. Calif had allowed Fraiser, Jason and a few other vampires pardons for past “sins” and let us snuff-out their burning remains and bring them inside.

Building their bodies back from scorched ash in the cavern of water, I was told, would take about a year. Jason was the last to rise out of this healing tank. All the other vampires were reunited with their bonded humans. Amazingly, none of them took ill with Calif for their extended time under fire.

One of the shoes tumbled out from my grasp and hit the dirt with a plop.

Pirate Steve turned around, waving the torch, ready for anything in his fighting stance. After nearly a year you’d think he’d calm those snappy reflexes.

“Sorry.” I reached down for the shoe. Being in this dark enclosed space must not have brought back happy memories.

Pirate Steve grunted—like a pirate, gruff and unforgiving.

“You don’t need to come with me, I’ll be okay.” I reshuffled everything and put the boots on top.

Regaining a clam stance Pirate Steve glanced down at my belly. “You’re in an secluded cave, with a hungry vampire. You being alone with him don’t sit well with me.”

“I brought baggies.” I waved the two blood bags in front of him. Just in case today was the day Jason decided to rise from dead to undead.

Pirate Steve scowled. Let me tell you, a man with an eye patch and a face full of scars can guilt you into oblivion. His face said I had no business making light of the situation. So I sidled up and pinched his ass.

  “Hey!” He complained.

  “What?” I kept walking.

“You think you have amenity because of the baby?” Pirate Steve tickled me on the ribs.

He half joked, but that was the underlying reason he didn’t want me coming down here. Pirate Steve didn’t think Jason would have the self-control not to kill me and our unborn child.

“I know Jason. He won’t hurt me.”

Pirate Steve grunted and ambled down the corridor. The soft breeze turned into a gale the further we went down. The torch struggled to stay lit by the time we got to the wide cavern mouth.

The pool of water filled most the cavern. Our only light source wavered in relief.

As I always did, I went to the water and sat. Pirate Steve remained on guard some distance behind me.

“Well, I’m here.” I whispered. “Yiran turned eleven, thankfully, because of you.”

No one answered. The wet cavern remained a never ending void. I found myself thinking about the survivors. “Minna’s mother, Anka, bonded with Blaze.” I said hoping it would spark Jason’s interest enough to come out. “In fact, all the vampires gained the right to collect a clutch. Calif lifted the no biting, no sex rule so...” I glanced back at Pirate Steve. He knew my opinion on the subject. Jason was poly-relationship so they both would just have to share.

“Most humans still give blood through doggy bags but nobody falls over from blood loss.” I looked over at Pirate Steve. He happened to be one of those that donated by needle.

I was starting to wonder if Jason would ever come out. Frasier had returned to Molly last week. My vampire was the last one.

“So much has happened since you’ve been—recovering.” I clutched Jason’s clothing. “Everyone’s been doing really great. You saved a lot of people.”

Pirate Steve squeezed my shoulder. “Even I owe you,” he said to the water.

I craned my neck back and smiled.

Pirate Steve keep his one eye out to the void of nothing. The torch light made him look the old-time ruff-guy.

I looked out to the water.

Jason stood half-way out, drops of liquid streaming down that lean perfect body.

  My heart lurched.

Technically, it was my first time seeing him naked.

His intense focus seared me. Predators locked on prey with a gaze like that. I wasn’t feeling admired, I felt like lunch. I struggled to get up. Hard thing to do for a pregnant lady.

“Jason?” I turned my gaze down and got the shock of my life. The tip of his erection peeked just over the water.

“Steve,” I said. “You don’t have to see this.”

“Woman, you are crazy.” Pirate Steve said. “I’m not leaving you.”

Jason started wading through water. Those thighs were taut, muscled and massive.

One might think being pregnant makes you less horny, but it doesn’t and Jason was beautiful. But he was also dangerous.

The vampire kept his eyes locked on my throat. There could have been a bull’s-eye on my neck the way he was staring.

Pirate Steve lunged forward waving his torch.

Jason stepped back and held up an arm to cover his eyes.

“Steve!” I tugged at his shirt.

“I don’t like the look in his eye.”

“This is no time for jealous bullshit.” I tried to pull Pirate Steve back. With Jason’s clothes in one hand and Steve in the other it didn’t work out so well.

“I need clothes, I need blood, and I need to fuck.” Jason peeked over his arm.

“Steve,” I said, tugging at his shirt. “We owe him so much.”

“Not at the price of our child.” Pirate Steve snarled.

Jason squinted as if he were trying to remember where he was. “Yiran?”

“Celebrated his eleventh birthday last week.” I stepped out in front of Pirate Steve.

Surprising a vampire is very difficult. They have super senses that don’t allow you to sneak up on them, but I sure did surprise Jason.

His stare went from my neck down to my protruding belly.

Funny how holding clothes in front of me was not camouflage for my pregnant state. A barn door couldn’t camouflage an eight month pregnant woman.

Jason’s dick twitched and his gaze traveled up.

Lifting his leg slowly, he moved forward.

  Pirate Steve went to intercept.

“No!” I held Pirate Steve off with a hand.

Offering the blood packets paused the vampire. Jason glanced at them and pushed them aside.

The situation was a more dire than I thought. “Okay, sex first then.”

I went down on my knees, dropped the clothes and grabbed two fist-fulls of hard and ready cock.

Jason’s desperation meant foreplay was straight out, so I parted my lips and made like a vacuum hose.

Strong hands entwined through my hair. His hips moved in tiny hop-thrusts that tickled the back of my throat.

&nb
sp; I moaned. Or at least I know I did. No sound actually came out.

His grip tightened and became more demanding of my mouth.

One hand cradled the back of my neck while he started to pump in shallow vigor.

A thigh wrapped around my shoulder while a calf pushed against my back pushing me closer, forcing my throat to take more of his cock.

He went so deep air became a scarce commodity. His whole leg cradled me to take more of him even when my lips touched the hilt of his shaft.

I swallowed when he thrust in and breathed when he pulled back.

Most men wouldn’t be able to stand up on one foot while rocking their hips back and forth, but Jason was not a man. He was a monster both as a vampire and a lover.

Slick and pulsing, I reached down in between my legs and swirled juices over my clit. Jason’s thrusts became less rhythmical and more urgent.

When I looked up Jason’s head was thrown back hiding his “o” face.

I felt our connection and Jason sent pure bliss and abandon down the line. Rubbing myself faster, I let him feel what I was doing.

From me being pregnant, to satisfying myself and him, the explosion happened before Jason could pull away. Instead he let me gorge on his cum. And he had a lot of it.

For a moment he stood standing on one leg, content to lock himself in place and stay there. One gentle clamp down from my sore jaw and Jason carefully extricated himself.

Pirate Steve stared, slack mouthed while fire slowly climbed up the torch.

I couldn’t help but notice the bulge in his pants.

“Um…Steve.” I stood and heard a pop of a bag being punctured.

Jason had found the doggie bags.

“Huh?” Pirate Steve blinked his one good eye. I couldn’t understand how he could handle flames engulfing his hand. But I’d never been the one to suffer Perennials.

“Ow!” He dropped the torch and what little light we had was gone.

“Sorry. I tried to warn you. You were about to catch fire.” I smiled. I didn’t think there would be much of a problem with the two sharing me.

A hand slid into mine and an arm hooked around the other.

My two men and I walked the long tunnel back to where vampires and humans thrived in polygamy, all because one vampire wasn’t afraid to face the consequences of breaking rules.

It seemed he was right about karma. Perhaps paying now instead of later was the best choice.

  ~ END ~

  Dear Reader,

Some may not appreciate the treatment my supporting character, Jason, was treated by his superior—Calif. However, Jason is modeled after a real person. The real-life Jason is as noble and valiant as I’ve tried to portray him. I’ve see this man put himself under the fires of honesty and judgment to come out stronger and wiser than before. He’s an inspiration and his story needed to be told—if not implied in fiction.

This also was a story under the Dark Heart Heroes line and I wondered if it was something you enjoyed. I plan on doing both Shorts-off and DHH adventures so let me know which one you like better.

  The Demon Inside Me

~ Excerpt from Princess Bitch, Thee I Wed ~

At this moment, I'd never wanted anything more than to be a son for my father. Especially while I stood high in the castle tower evacuating the servants, wet nurses and maids. But I was not a boy or a man. I was my fathers doted on princess. A girl only allowed to swing a sword with my father's permission because he was the monarch. With his permission, I was allowed. That and also because my mother had a sword of her own and used it in defense of my unlady like desire to hold more than a misery-cord. Her blade was not tempered in metal, but its steel cut and the ring of her tongue drove deep. They say the pen is mightier than the sword. I'm personally aware that my mother's word is mightier than a frail quill from a duck's arse.

My mother kept sneaking glances out the windows.

Like me, I could tell she wanted nothing more than to be down there, wielding a sword against invaders beside our king. Her dark eyes expressed more fire than a hearth flame when she said, "Get them all out."

Worry tainted her perfectly sculpted brows, her unwrinkled skin and her hair pulled back in a severely tight bun. My mother, the queen, never out of place, never out of sorts, remained that way even in dire situations.

"Come Emvery." I offered my maid a hand and stepped patiently while the woman, who tended me since birth, waddled down the stairs one step at a time. "Emvery, we're under attack. You have to move faster."

My mother drilled that sword of flesh with tone and timing. "Alexia, respect those who've protected you from rain and wind down to their bosom."

"It's all right ma' lady." Emvery’s plumb hand pat my arm. She always defended me. Even against a queen.

"I'm sorry Emvery." I took her arm firmly. She had a tendency to fall and was careful down stairs. "But the castle gate is failing we must hurry."

Near the bottom of the stairs, Mother spoke to the guards assisting our escape. "Are we the last?"

The two guards, Clay and Heinsley, looked at each other.

"I asked you a question gentlemen."

"No my lady." One of the queens guard, Heinsley, answered. "Samalia refused to leave her quarters."

Mother huffed and spun on her heel, stomping back inside the tower.

Emvery held me tight, or I would've followed.

"My lady!" Heinsley leaped and caught her arm. "We must leave."

The queen of Allsviell ripped out of her guards grasp. "Do not touch me Heinsley. I will not overlook your inappropriateness again."

Clay grabbed both my mother's arms from behind. "I'm sorry my lady, King's orders."

"Emvery, go!" I left my maids side and rushed back up the stairs.

Mother elbowed her guards while I passed them to get my Nanna, Samalia. A stubborn old lady wasn’t going to be my martyr.

  "Heinsley! The girl!" Clay said.

"You will address her as princess or princess Alexia!" My mother even now concerned herself with propriety. But Heinsley wore boots and heavy armor while I wore silk and slippers. Skirmishing with castle guards quickened my feet but Heinsley was faster.

Hands scooped me up by my waist. "No Heinsley! We can't leave her here!"

"We can and we will." The guards rough voice rushed in my ear.

We struggled down the stairs. Heinsley squeezing my arms together while he leaned against the stairway wall. I kicked and hit all the right places to tumble us both, despite the stupidity of falling down a stairwell. I was too angry. Too fevered in my desperation to get to my Nanna. We could not leave her to these pluderous savages. Heinsley avoided my flailing legs. If I'd put a mind to it, my blows could have been carefully planned. But really, I didn't want to hurt him or me. He was only trying to save us.

Clay held mother fast by the shoulders his back to the open escape. Clay was the brawny type that filled an entire doorway. If he stood in the archway, mother wouldn't be able to get around him. Not even if she crawled. Which, no matter the dire consequences, could I ever see the queen of Allsviell crawl.

"Good." Clay's relieved face swept over me and Heinsley. "Let's get out of here."

Clay took hold of mother's wrists and turned around.

A buzzing, the sound of a thousand whistles, then screams echoed off outside the tower walls. Clay stammered back. My mother scrambled away just in time before Clay fell flat on his back. Twenty or more arrows stuck out of his chest, stomach, and legs.

"Oh bloody hell!" Heinsley let go of me and leaped down the stairs. My legs wobble
d and I leaned against the wall. Heinsley pulled Clay all the way in and slammed the door. Thuds pelted the thick oak door.

"Clay?" Mother knelled to the man who'd saved her life and took hold of his hand.

Clay lifted his head. "Go, my lady."

Dread shot down my stomach. The pain Clay must be in. Not only that, but in pain and knowing he was going to die. I leaned forward to get myself out of my locked position. "Nanna can help!" I turned and ran up the stairs.

"By the Gods, Alexia, duck under the windows!"

Tears just behind my eyes threatened, knowing but hoping that wouldn't be the last warning Clay ever gave me.

The thousand whistles of death came again and I dropped and shielded my head. Glass tinkled. Arrows broke through and clattered against stone. I ran the flight of stairs until the next window. I didn't hear whistling, but I ducked under the sill anyway. Flights of stairs, and endless windows later I reached the top of the tower. The four pillars connected together by way of passageways, but the east facing rooms was where Nanna lived. Empty corridors greeted me while I raced down the hall.

  "Nanna!" My breath labored.

I barged in, not bothering to knock. "Nanna!"

  No answer.

I went to her bed chambers and there, in bed, surrounded by all her scrolls, sat Nanna Samalia. The wrinkly old woman nestled a book the size of a small table top between her knees.

"Nanna." At my wits end, I crossed the room.

"And I'll repeat myself." Nanna's jowls shook. "I'm too old to run around. Leave me."

When I was younger, her scowl, chin whiskers and wrinkles could scare me into behaving. Now that I was older, I searched beyond her gruff manner and saw a woman born from a life that cut and made you wise of the ways of the world or devoured you whole. Nanna told me the truth, when so many slathered butterscotch or jam over the rubbish of innocence.

"You will run or I will carry you."

Nanna pinched her face into a scowl. "I told Clay to carry you and the queen out."

  "Clay is dead."

Her face never changed. Almost as if she expected as such.
