‘You spoiled my pot plants and books,’ I tell him. ‘Look.’

‘It was just meant to be a little hole,’ he says, and makes a little square with the forefinger and thumb of each hand as if to demonstrate. ‘I had a plan, you see—’ he says, but I cut him off by raising my hand in a “talk to the hand” gesture.

‘A plan,’ I say. ‘What have we said about plans?’

‘You’ll like this one,’ he says and lurches forward a bit more. I have a six foot three plaster-covered zombie heading towards me in my own lounge and it’s rather incredible.

Then I realise the zombie is wearing nothing more than a pair of jogging pants and he doesn’t even have socks on. I can see all of his muscles on his chest defined by the plaster dust and … mmmm. It’s a very sexy zombie, actually. Plaster dust suits him disturbingly well.

‘Don’t you want to hear it?’ he says and comes closer to me. Then he puts his filthy dirty arms around me and I start thinking filthy dirty thoughts.

‘Mmm?’ I say, nuzzling into his chest.

‘I thought we could convert our flats back to how they were when they were a house. Then when the Happy Valley Munchkins leave next month, we could buy the lease from the landlord and convert the whole house back to one big place.’

‘Are Rickie and Nickee and Zach leaving then?’ I ask, startled by this revelation.

Ewan nods. ‘Yes. They decided that they wanted to move to Glastonbury as it wasn’t as far to travel with a baby when they go to the festival.’

There is a weird sort of logic in there – no doubt a marijuana-induced sort of logic – but I let it go.

‘How do you know?’ I ask.

‘The landlord told me,’ he said.

‘Ah, Mr Hogarth.’ I nodded. ‘You know, he’s always spoken very highly of you and your police type family. He seems to be a very nice godfather to possess. You’re a very lucky godson, Ewan, to have Mr Hogarth in your life.’

‘See, you were meant to work for him, weren’t you? Meant to move in here. Somebody else planned it all – even if you didn’t. Because otherwise, we might not have met.’

‘Oh we would have met,’ I say, nodding. ‘I’m certain about that. Especially if Aggie had anything to do with it. She’s a strange one, she is.’

‘She’s incredible,’ says Ewan and pulls me closer. ‘Does that sound like a good plan, then? Or is it too “planned” for you?’

‘Oh no. I like this plan,’ I tell him. ‘I love you, Ewan. You know that don’t you?’

‘I do,’ he says. ‘And I love you too, Agnes McCreadie.’

And I don’t even mind that he’s calling me Agnes, because he’s kissing me and it’s ever so nice.

And I also know for certain that Schubert agrees with everything we’ve just talked about. He’s a lovely cat, even though he’s a little opinionated at times. But you know what – he’s jolly well worth it.

And then I remember – ages ago, I had that other wish about having the basement as a workspace.

  How marvellous!

It must be the power of positive thinking. I’ll now be able to use the workspace for … something. Maybe I can set up a witchy consultancy or something.

  ‘Mow wow?’ suggests Schubert.

‘That’s a good idea, Schubert,’ I tell him, impressed at his logic.

  ‘Mow wow,’ he agrees complacently.

  And he licks Catnip.

  THANK YOU

Thank you for reading Every Witch Way. I hope you enjoyed Nessa, Ewan – and Schubert’s – story as much as I enjoyed writing it. It’s a bit different from my usual work, and it’s the first romantic comedy I’ve done, but sometimes it’s good to jump out of the box and just go for it! I loved writing this novella and some of the words still make me smile when I re-read them. I don’t know if ‘doing edits’ is meant to be such fun, but with Every Witch Way, it definitely was for me!

But all authors, in whatever genre they write, really value their readers as well – without you, we just have words on a page that mean very little. The road to publication is wonderful and if an author knows readers are enjoying their work, it’s a fantastic feeling. It’s even more special if people take the trouble to leave a review. It’s lovely to hear what readers think and we all value their feedback.

If you have time therefore, something as simple as a one-line review on Amazon, a note on a book review site such as Goodreads or indeed a comment on any online store would be hugely appreciated.

Please do feel free to contact me anytime. You can find my details under my author profile and I very much hope that you’ll enjoy my other books as well.

Happy reading, and again, a huge thank you!

  Lots of love
