  Synopsis

  Book One: Lynxar

Scientist Dr. Rachel Deering hopes that her invention will lead her to find meteorites from outer space, but instead it leads her into an abandoned alley where trouble awaits. Fortunately, Rachel is rescued by a strange man with very surprising abilities. When he reveals to her that his name is Lynxar and that he is actually an alien from another world, Rachel vows to help him get back home. But can she do it before General Kriptoff finds them and uses Rachel’s research for his own evil purposes? Rachel certainly intends to try, but the one thing she didn’t count on was falling deeply in love with the handsome alien she was dedicated to sending home.

  Book Two: Lynxar’s Choice

Scientist Dr. Rachel Deering has fallen in love with Lynxar, the alien who has become a super-hero of sorts, by defending the people of Colossal City with his extraordinary abilities. That’s why it worries her that Lynxar has lost his ability to regenerate from injuries; a sure sign that he has an infection that will kill him if left untreated. It is Rachel’s greatest hope and worst fear combined, when an alien woman named Lynxonna comes to fetch Lynxar and take him home to their planet of Flonar. Her fear is magnified when it is revealed that Lynxar was once betrothed to this incredibly beautiful alien woman. Will Lynxar leave with Lynxonna and be healed by his people’s medical technologies, or will he stay with Rachel and possibly die of an infection? Rachel’s fate and indeed that of all the citizens of Colossal City, could depend on Lynxar’s choice.

  Book Three: Lynxar’s Legacy

Dr. Rachel Deering owes the life of her husband, Lynxar, to the alien woman who saved him, Lynxonna. Unfortunately, Lynxonna has fallen into the hands of General Kriptoff, who intends to use her DNA to create an army of super-soldiers to siege Colossal City. After a week of searching for her, Rachel fears Lynxonna might well be dead, until inspiration hits and she discovers the secret lair where Kriptoff is hiding her. Can Lynxar use his extraordinary abilities to rescue her from an entire army of enhanced soldiers all by himself? Will Rachel ever see either one of them again? Or will Kriptoff successfully put an end to Lynxar’s legacy?

  Book Four: Lynxar’s Ghost

Alien super-hero Lynxar and his wife Dr. Rachel Deering have gained in fame and popularity since giving birth to their baby daughter. When they attend a reception party being held by billionaire Bryan Hillman, tragedy ends with their host gaining super-powers of his own. As Bryan struggles with his new powers, he also tries to develop a romance with the beautiful news reporter Vicky Campbell. Then Lynxar decides to take a trip away from Earth and Bryan realizes that it will be up to him to protect the citizens of Colossal City from evil. His ability to turn invisible earns him the name the Ghost, but does he have what it takes to be the super-hero the city needs him to be?

  Book Five: The Ghost Rises

Bryan Hillman can’t believe how much his life has improved since becoming the super-hero known as the Ghost. Not only does he possess super-human powers, including the ability to turn invisible, but he has found true love with his girlfriend Vicky Campbell. When the evil gangster known as the Mafia King discovers Bryan’s feelings for Vicky, however, it puts her into a deadly situation. Can the Ghost rise to the occasion and save her, or is he finally out of his depth?

Book Six: Triumph of the Ghost

Bryan Hillman has been protecting the citizens of Colossal City as the super-hero known as the Ghost, but when Lynxar returns, he doesn’t like the idea of being replaced. Old enemies quickly unite, however, and threaten everything the super-heroes hold dear. If Lynxar and the Ghost are going to defeat General Kriptoff and the Mafia King, they’ll have to find a way to work together. What will take for good to triumph over evil, and can Bryan discover the answer in time?

  Chapter One

Dr. Rachel Deering stepped out of her car and into the alleyway, nestled between an abandoned warehouse and a dilapidated factory in the slums of Colossal City. Her Regmaglypts Particle Detector, or RPD as she’d come to call it, clearly indicated that the emissions were coming from this direction. However, the alley was nothing but a dead end. There was absolutely no sign of a meteorite having landed here at all.

“This can’t be right.” Rachel frowned to herself, wondering if all the hard work she’d been doing trying to invent the RPD was just a huge waste of time. Still, the dials on the handheld machine were picking up something that couldn’t be ignored. There were definitely particles somewhere nearby that could only have come from an object passing through the Earth’s atmosphere. Rachel decided to take a closer look. Taking a deep breath, she stepped deeper into the alleyway, lit only by the moon shining overhead in the dark night.

“Why didn’t I stop at the lab to change my clothes first?” Rachel admonished herself as she stumbled over an empty beer bottle and nearly broke one of her designer heels. She’d been on her way to a party when the RPD started whistling and chirping from her backseat. She’d been so excited by the activity that she’d veered off the highway to follow the source of the emissions. This could finally be the proof she needed that her invention worked. Only now that she stood alone in a dark alley wearing nothing but a sexy black dress and stiletto heels, did the decision seem foolish.

“Hey, baby. Want to come with us?” a deep voice said from behind. Rachel twirled around to find two large, menacing-looking men standing at the entrance of the alleyway. A chill crept up her spine and she grappled for the pepper spray she kept in her purse. With a deep feeling of dread, she realized that she’d left her purse in her car. Her only defense now would be her own bravado. Straightening her spine, she brushed her long blonde hair away from her eyes and strode forward.

“No, I was just leaving.” Rachel
said, trying to make her voice sound more confident than she felt. She attempted to walk past the two men to the safety of her car, but they widened their stance, making it impossible for her to get through. One of them grabbed her roughly by the arm and pulled her to him. She could smell the stench of him: alcohol, cigarettes, and sweat.

“What’s your hurry? We just want to talk to you for a minute.” the man said and his partner laughed a grotesque sound like a hyena’s cackle.

“No, thanks!” Rachel said, squirming in the first man’s grip, while the other leered at her sexy black dress and smacked his lips. “My friends are expecting me and they’ll come looking for me if I don’t meet them in the next few minutes. Let me go!” Rachel lied, struggling with all her might now.

It quickly became evident that the man holding her was much too strong. She’d never be able to wrench herself free of his grip. Somebody, help me please! She thought desperately in her mind, wishing there was anybody else in the abandoned alley.

Suddenly, as if in answer to her prayer, a figure appeared at the back of the alley. In a deep voice that was forceful and sure, he said, “I believe the lady asked you two gentlemen to let her go. If you don’t want trouble, I suggest you comply at once.”

Rachel craned her neck to see a tall, clean cut man, with dark hair and a muscular build approaching them from the end of the alley. The man gripping Rachel’s arm pulled her even tighter against his chest and clamped his hand over her mouth, preventing her from crying out and making it difficult for her to breathe. His partner pulled a knife from the sheath at his belt, held it behind his back and called menacingly to the stranger. “I’ll show you trouble! I suggest you get out of here. She’s ours!”

Rachel wished more than anything she could warn the valiant stranger about the knife, but her voice only came out as muffled nonsense with her assailants hand clamped over her mouth. Look out! He has a knife! She thought uselessly in her mind.

As if he heard her, the stranger suddenly ran upon the man with the knife, grabbed him by the wrist, and knocked him against the wall of the warehouse. The force of the blow forced the knife from the man’s hand and it fell to the ground.

“He broke my arm!” the man cried out, clutching his injured appendage.

“I’ll get him!” his partner hollered. He bent quickly to the ground, scooping up the knife, and held it to Rachel’s throat.

“I’ll cut this bitch! I swear it! Now, why don’t you go home, hero.”

Rachel tried to hold herself perfectly still, as she felt the point of the blade pressing against her throat. She feared that her own trembling would cause him to cut her. Her eyes wide with fear, she looked into the face of the stranger, pleading with him to do something, although she didn’t know what. The idea of being harmed by these men terrified her, but the idea of them harming this man whom she didn’t even know was even worse. She couldn’t abide the thought of anyone being hurt just to try and save her. In her mind, she prayed for him to get safely away and leave her to her fate.

The stranger turned as if preparing to exit the alleyway, and then suddenly charged the man holding Rachel captive. He closed the distance between them with such incredible speed, Rachel wouldn’t have believed it if she hadn’t actually seen it. Before the assailant could even move the blade to cut Rachel’s throat, the stranger had grabbed it from his hand, knocked the man’s feet out from under him, flipped him onto his stomach, and stepped one foot onto his back, pinning him to the ground. The knife had been hurled into the brick wall of the warehouse, and actually became embedded into one of the stone bricks. How was that even possible?

The stranger said very calmly, “I don’t think you want to threaten this lovely lady. Why don’t you go home before someone gets hurt?”

The stranger released the man, who quickly scrabbled to his feet and ran down the street with his partner at his side.

“Are you all right, Miss?” the stranger turned to Rachel after the men had gone.

“Yes, I’m okay. Oh, my God, that was incredible!” Rachel gasped, rubbing at her neck and feeling that there were no injuries. Then she looked at her rescuer, and emotion choked her voice as she thanked him profusely.

“No need to thank me,” he said humbly. Rachel saw that his eyes were a deep shade of violet, the most incredible color she had ever seen. His dark hair had an almost purple tint to it, and she wondered why a man would dye his hair so oddly. He was dressed strangely too, in some sort of jumpsuit or work uniform, only the fabric was an unusual material she’d never seen before.

She could feel him staring at her in return and suddenly became aware that the chilly night air was making her nipples protrude through the thin fabric of her dress. Awkwardly, she tried to cross her arms over her chest to hide them, but that only made her cleavage more pronounced.

The stranger said, “You’re shivering. You must get into your car where it is warm and safe.”

As he shepherded her to her car and held the door open for her, but she was no longer in a hurry to leave. Rachel had to know. “Who are you? What are you doing here?”

“My name is Lynxar. I crashed here in an accident.”

“Oh my gosh! Let me take you to a hospital! It’s the least I can do after you saved me from those thugs!”

Rachel looked at him, searching for signs of injury and saw that indeed he had a deep gash on his temple and another on his left side. No wonder he was able to battle those men, he must have been operating on excessive amounts of adrenaline. That explained why he appeared to be so strong and so fast; it was the shock and chemicals in his body caused by the injury. It was phenomena well documented in science journals, but Rachel had never witnessed it before.

“No. I cannot go to a hospital!” Lynxar held up his hand in a defensive gesture, as if trying to ward off an unseen danger.

“But you’re clearly injured. Get in my car. I’ll drive you. You’ve lost a lot of blood.”

“No! No hospital. Promise me your most sacred vow that you will not take me to a hospital. No one must try to heal me.”

Rachel shook her head. She never understood these religious zealots who didn’t believe in modern medicine. But who was she to judge? After all, he had saved her life. The least she could do was honor his wishes. “Okay, I promise. No hospitals, no doctors. Can I at least take you to my lab? I’m a scientist and I have a first aid kit there. I could patch up your wounds, maybe use a little antiseptic. You don’t want those to become infected.”

Rachel gave Lynxar her most winning smile, pleading with him to acquiesce. She was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen; but there was more to it than just her lovely face and curvy figure. She had a kindness and a compassion that made her even more beautiful. Instinctively, Lynxar knew that she was somebody he could trust to help him. Slowly, he nodded his acceptance and climbed into the passenger seat of her car.

As her taillights disappeared into the distance, the two vagrants came out of their hiding place. The number one man, Brentmen, picked his cell phone out of his pocket. He tried to dial, but with his arm broken it was impossible and he handed it to his partner, Morris, who hesitantly made the call.

“Did you get the device?” a hoarse voice rasped from the other end of the line.

“Negative. Dr. Deering took the device with her when she left the lab.” Morris said, nervously. “She must have realized we were following her, because she detoured from the highway and went to an abandoned alley. We disguised ourselves as vagrants in an attempt to get closer to her.” Morris said, taking off the smelly clothes he’d stolen from a street bum to reveal the soldier’s uniform he wore underneath. On the left shoulder, there was an emblem patch depicting three spears crossing each other to form the letter K.

“Excellent. Abduct her from the alley. Bring both the doctor and her device directly to me.” The raspy voice commanded forcefully.

Morris hated to give more bad news, but he had no other choice. Taking a deep breath, he said “We tried
that, sir, but she escaped with the device. We weren’t able to obtain either one.”

“How is it possible for a mere girl to evade two of my best men?”

“She wasn’t alone, sir. She had a man with her of superior speed, strength, and skill. You were right about the potential for her research. She’s definitely found a way to enhance human abilities with her device. He was like someone from another world. Brentmen has been badly wounded.”

“I want her! I want her now!” the raspy voice screamed from the phone. “Bring her to me now, whatever it takes. Shoot Brentmen and put him out of his misery. I’m officially promoting you to Sergeant, Morris, and dispatching a platoon to the doctor’s lab. Bring her to me, whatever it takes!”

  Chapter Two

“This is it, this is my lab,” Rachel said cheerily as she unlocked the front door to the building and led Lynxar down the labyrinth of hallways to her private laboratory. She sat him on a stool and prepared to examine his injuries.

The wound on his head appeared to be nothing more than a scar with some dried blood crusted around it. Odd, she would have sworn it was a huge, bleeding gash in the alleyway. It must have been the moonlight playing tricks with her eyes. Still, why was there so much dried blood in his hair?

“When I knocked that man to the ground, he cut his hand. During our wrestling, he grabbed me by the head and got his blood on me.” Lynxar explained easily. Rachel nodded agreeably. It made perfect sense, although she didn’t realize she’d asked about the blood out loud.

I must be losing my mind, she thought with a wry grin. Next, she examined Lynxar’s left side. There was a huge rip in his suit, but underneath the wound was quite small. She touched it tenderly and said, “Is the puncture deep?”

“No, it’s only a surface scratch. I’m fine. No need for medical care, Dr. Deering.”
