I headed to the kitchen to brew us up a little. I had made sure there was decaf in the house for Amaya so she would be able to enjoy everything alongside me. I brewed us up a large pot and arranged a bowl of gorgeous fresh fruit and crusty bread for breakfast. My father had organized everything with the house, and I had to admit he’d done a great job. I guessed if anyone knew how to pull off a great honeymoon, it was the man who had done it plenty of times already.
I headed back up to the bedroom, walking slowly so I didn’t drop anything or make a mess, and I paused outside the door as I thought I heard her moving around inside. I grinned and slowly opened it, and she beamed at me as I entered the room.
“Morning,” she greeted me while I carefully laid everything on the table next to her. The light was pouring into the room, and it was picking her out perfectly. With my hands free once more, I turned to lay eyes on my wife for our first morning together as a married couple.
She had fallen asleep as soon as we had finished making love in that bed, not bothering to take off her makeup. It was a little smudged around her face, a smidge of that blue liner she’d been wearing the day before still on her face. I could still remember vividly how beautiful she looked as I pulled back that veil, how much my heart had been full of love for her. I wasn’t sure I would ever forget how magical that moment had been. It had already seared itself completely onto my memory.
“Morning.” I grinned back. She was still naked, and I loved how at ease she seemed to feel with her body now. The sheet was only half-covering her, but she didn’t seem to give a damn. Her hair was a mess, but she had a big smile on her face as I sat down on the edge of the bed next to her.
“And what might be going through your mind right now, dear husband?” she asked playfully as though she didn’t know for damn sure.
“I think you have a pretty good idea, dear wife,” I joked back. I moved across the bed to her, pouncing on her like I was a predator stalking prey, and she wrapped her arms around me and pulled me close, squealing as my lips found her breasts, her neck, her lips. And finally, our mouths met.
I knew without a shadow of a doubt that everything had been leading to this moment. My unexpected wife in my arms, in bed together, breakfast waiting for us, and her belly beginning to round with our child as the sun sparkled off the stunningly blue sea beyond the window. Nothing could have made more sense to me. Everything, at last, was utterly, impossibly, perfect.
