Defying Gravity (Healing Hearts Book 2) Page 14

by Laura Farr

He stood up and quickly removed his t-shirt, leaving him in just his jeans. I sat up and watched him, his eyes never leaving mine as his hands reached for the button of his jeans. My eyes dropped as I watched him undo all the buttons, gasping when I realized he wasn’t wearing any underwear. Pushing his jeans down his legs, his erection sprang free, and I swallowed nervously. I obviously wasn’t a virgin, but the guys I’d slept with had meant nothing to me. Josh, on the other hand, meant everything, and I didn’t want to mess it up.

He must have noticed my apprehension as I saw him frown, his face full of concern. He sat on the bed and took my hand. “Is everything okay? We don’t have to do this, we can wait.”

“No, no, I want to,” I rushed out, gripping his hand. “It’s just, I’ve never been with anyone I’ve had feelings for.” I paused, looking down at our joined hands. “I don’t want to mess it up.”

“Look at me Savannah,” he said softly, and I raised my head, my eyes meeting his. “You could never mess this up. It will be perfect, because you’re perfect.”

I smiled at his words and he gently pushed me back on the bed so I was lying beneath him. He kissed me again, gently to begin with, but it soon became heated and I snaked my hands into his hair. As he kissed around my jaw and down my neck, my breathing became ragged again. His mouth found my nipple and his fingers massaged my other breast as he worked me up to a boiling point once more. Releasing my nipple from his mouth, he positioned his erection between my legs, and then he pushed inside me. I gasped at the sting I felt as he slowly filled me. When his hips met mine, he suddenly stilled. “What’s wrong?” I asked.

“I won’t hurt the baby, will I?” he asked breathlessly.

“No, Josh, please move,” I begged, wiggling my hips in an attempt to get him to continue. Chuckling, he pulled out, gently thrusting into me. He did this four or five times, my body moving with his in a perfect rhythm. His gentle movements were pushing me closer to a second orgasm, but I needed more; I could tell he was holding back, afraid he would hurt me. “Harder Josh.” I breathed against his lips. “I won’t break.”

“Okay baby,” he whispered before kissing me again, his tongue forcing its way into my mouth. He slowly increased the speed of his thrusts, and I whimpered as he pulled almost completely out before slamming his hips against mine. My orgasm was getting closer and I moaned as he bent his head, taking my nipple into his mouth again. God, what this man could do with his tongue was incredible, and I never wanted him to stop. I began to notice that his breathing was becoming more labored and his movements more urgent. I felt his hand reach between my legs and flick my clit, which pushed me over the edge, and I called out his name again as I came, my body erupting around him. My orgasm triggered his as he thrust once more before exploding inside me, his body shuddering as he dropped down on top of me, being careful not to put his weight on my stomach. I could feel his heart racing in his chest, his breaths coming in pants. A thin layer of sweat covered our bodies, and I reached my arms around him, holding him against me. After a few minutes, he lifted his head, kissing me softly.

“God Sav, that was amazing,” he said, grinning at me.

“It really was.” I kissed his lips again and smiled back at him. His eyes shone with love, and I could barely believe something I’d waited years for had actually happened.

“Shit!” he exclaimed, looking down between our bodies. “I was so caught up with finally being with you, I didn’t use a condom!”

“Well I don’t think I can get any more pregnant than I already am,” I said with a small smile.

“I’m clean, I promise.” He looked worried as he waited for me to say something.

“Me too. I got tested when I found out I was pregnant. It’s fine.” I watched as he breathed a sigh of relief, and I wasn’t sure if he was worried I’d be mad he’d forgotten the condom or if he was relieved that I was clean. He slowly moved off me and I winced at the delicious sting that was left behind.

“Did I hurt you?” he asked with a frown.

I shook my head. “No, it’s just been a while. I’m okay,” I told him with a grin. He kissed me again before climbing off the bed, and I sat up on my elbows and watched his fine ass as he padded across the room to the bathroom. He came back with a washcloth and gently cleaned between my legs, his eyes never leaving mine. Throwing the cloth into the corner of the room, he climbed back into bed and pulled me into his arms. With my head resting on his hard, naked chest, we lay in silence for a few minutes, his fingers trailing up and down my arm.

“So…next time, we don’t have to worry about a condom then?” he asked quietly. I could see a small smirk on his face when I tilted my head to look at him. “I’ve never gone bare before. You felt amazing Sav.”

“So, there’ll definitely be a next time?” I asked him, my head dropping back onto his chest. I knew he’d told me he wanted to be with me and I wanted to believe him, but I was scared—scared of getting hurt, of letting him in and then having him change his mind. I didn’t want to assume that just because we’d slept together, anything more would happen. I desperately wanted it to, but I was still wary. He’d hurt me too many times, and I knew it would be a while before I fully trusted him.

“Savannah,” he said, waiting for me to look at him. “What do you think is happening here?” he asked when my eyes met his.

“I don’t know Josh. I’ve wanted this for so long, but this past week you’ve been giving such mixed signals. I don’t want to let you in only to have you to hurt me again.” I watched as his eyes flashed with pain before he pulled me closer to him and kissed me on the head.

“We are happening baby. I hate that I’ve hurt you, and I would give anything to change that. I never want to hurt you again. I’ve wanted you since I was 16, I just never allowed myself to believe I could have you. I’m still terrified to think of what the future holds for us, but we will have a future. Now that I’ve had a taste of what it’s like to be with you, I’m not giving you up.”

I breathed a sigh of relief. Although it would take me a while to really believe we could make this work, it was exactly what I needed to hear from him. I reached up, kissing his lips.

“Thank you,” I whispered against his mouth.

“Can I take you out Sav, on a real date? I want to do things the right way, and I want the world to know you’re mine.”

“I’d love that,” I replied as I smiled. Just then a knock sounded on the cottage door and I gasped, suddenly remembering my breakfast arrangements. “I bet that’s my parents—I was supposed to meet them for breakfast.” I quickly sat up and swung my legs over the side of the bed, pulling on my yoga pants and a t-shirt. I made my way downstairs and opened the front door, finding my frantic mom on the other side.

“Thank God!” she exclaimed dramatically, rushing inside and flinging her arms around me. “I thought something had happened to you! You never showed up for breakfast, and you weren’t answering your phone.”

“Mom, I’m fine, I just forgot. I’m sorry I worried you.”

“Oh!” she said over my shoulder, amusement evident in her voice. “Well I can see why you might have forgotten about breakfast.” I spun around to see Josh standing at the bottom of the stairs wearing just his jeans, his feet and chest bare. I couldn’t help but smile at him—he looked gorgeous. He smiled back and I heard my mom clear her throat next to me.

“Right, well now that I know you’re okay, I’ll leave you to it,” she said, glancing between Josh and me, a smile pulling at the corners of her mouth. Josh made his way from the foot of the stairs and stood next to me, his arm snaking around my waist. I sagged against him and he kissed the top of my head. “Finally,” I heard my mom say as she turned and walked back through the cottage door. “Oh, and Josh, if you hurt my baby, you’ll have me to deal with,” she said over her shoulder as she walked into the small garden.

“Mom!” I exclaimed, watching as she turned to face me.

  She pointed to my stomach.
“You’ll understand once that baby’s born.”

“I’m not going to hurt Savannah, Mrs. Parker, you have my word.”

“Good,” she said, winking at me as she turned and headed toward the main house. I felt Josh let out a sigh of relief, and I giggled.

“I guess you can expect the same sort of comments from my dad and Brody too,” I said, teasing him.

“I can’t blame them. If this baby’s a girl, I’m never letting her have a boyfriend. Any boy who comes near her will have to go through me first.” My heart swelled at his words. He was going to make an incredible dad, and it seemed my baby wasn’t going to grow up without a father after all. I reached up on my tiptoes and kissed him softly. The kiss soon turned heated and he picked me up, my legs automatically wrapping around him. He carried me to the sofa and I sat straddling his lap, his lips never leaving mine. After working me up to the point where I was practically panting, he pulled away and rested his forehead against mine. “If we don’t stop now Sav, I’m going to want to be buried deep inside you, and you’re sore.”

I whimpered at his words. “I’m not sore,” I protested, grinding my hips against his hard erection.

“Liar.” He chuckled. He was right, I was sore, but I was past caring. I was so turned on and I needed him. “I don’t want to hurt you baby. Maybe I could stay over tonight and we could pick up from here?”

“You’re such a tease. I’m a pregnant woman—I’ve got needs! And right now, I need you!” I told him as he burst out laughing.

“And I’ll be more than happy to see to those needs later tonight, when I know I won’t hurt you.” I pouted and he laughed again.

“Urghhh! Fine!” I exclaimed, climbing off his lap, my body still on fire. “Where are we going on our date then? It better be good.”

“Wait and see,” he told me. “Go get ready and I’ll tidy up down here.” He swatted my butt as I walked past him up the stairs.

I couldn’t help but grin as I made my way into the bathroom. It was really happening. I’d dreamed about being with Josh for so long, and after that morning, the reality of actually being with him was a hundred times better than my dreams had ever been. I turned the shower on and slipped off my clothes. As the water heated up, I quickly brushed my teeth before climbing in. As the hot water washed over my body, I winced; my hand was still sore and it always hurt when I got it wet. The bandage had been removed, but the wound was still covered with a band-aid. After washing my hair as best as I could with one hand, I closed my eyes and tilted my head back under the spray, enjoying the feeling of the hot water on me. As I did, I heard the bathroom door open.

  “Savannah?” Josh called out.

Opening my eyes, I reached for the shower curtain and poked my head out. “Hey, you okay?” I asked him, and he nodded.

“Do you know that your shower curtain is see-through?” he asked, a smile forming on his lips as I watched his eyes roam up and down.

“Is it?” I glanced down to see that the curtain was clinging to my wet body, and was indeed see-through. “Did you need something Josh?” I asked him with a smirk.

“Erm…” He shook his head slightly as his eyes found mine. “Yes, I came to ask if you have school tomorrow?”

“No, I don’t have classes on Mondays. Why?”

“Pack an overnight bag baby,” he said excitedly.

“An overnight bag? Why?” I asked him, confused.

“I’m taking you away for the night,” he told me with a grin, and I smiled back at him.

  “Where?”

“Austin. I’ll book us a room.” He backed away toward the door. “Do you need a hand in the shower? You know, while I’m here?” he asked, raising his eyebrows in question.

I slipped back behind the curtain before answering him. “I’m okay, thank you.” I smiled to myself. “I am a bit sore, after all.” I heard him chuckle.

“Now who’s a tease?” he joked, his voice tinged with amusement. I laughed as I heard him leave the bathroom. “Don’t be long sweetheart,” he shouted.

I quickly finished up in the shower, nerves and excitement racing through me. I was looking forward to spending some time alone with him. I’d have been happy staying at the cottage, but knowing he was arranging a trip to Austin for our first date made my heart swell. I just hoped I could keep my eyes open past 8:30pm—I was sure Josh could think of something to keep me awake, and I couldn’t wait.

After quickly drying my hair, I threw some clothes into a bag. I didn’t have to agonize over what to pack—the choice of what fit me was limited since I hadn’t got around to shopping for any maternity clothes yet. I hoped what I’d packed was suitable for wherever we were going.

Josh had insisted on taking his car to Austin, and as he needed to grab some clothes, we were heading to his place in my Bug. I was apprehensive about seeing Josh’s parents, especially his mom. They had been over to the ranch many times for family barbecues and parties and were friendly with my parents, but I felt awkward around them. I got the impression from Josh’s mom that she never really liked me; I was loud and sassy, and I thought she saw me as unrefined.

Josh was driving my car and I wrung my hands in my lap, my stomach churning with nerves as we got closer to his house. I’d only been to his place a handful of times before, and it had been years. As we drove up the huge gravel driveway, I gasped at just how gorgeous the house was. Although I’d been there the night before, it had been dark and I hadn’t exactly been in the right frame of mind to admire where I was. “This place is beautiful Josh!” I exclaimed as he parked outside an enormous detached garage. He jumped out and ran around to the passenger side, opening the door and holding his hand out for me to take. I smiled up at him as he helped me out.

“You’ve been here before, haven’t you?” he asked as he gently pulled me out of the car and into his arms.

“Yeah, but it’s been a while. I forgot how big it is.” I looked up at the house. There were three large windows on each side of the front door, and huge pillars that held up a porch that ran the length of the house. The front garden was dotted with sculptured trees and brightly colored rose bushes, and the driveway was big enough for at least 10 cars.

“It’s too big. There are only the three of us, and Mom and Dad are hardly here these days.” He let go of me and reached into the back seat, grabbing my bag.

“Are they here now?” I asked him nervously.

He shook his head. “No, they’re on a six-week cruise, and Dad left me to run the business. They’ll be back just after Thanksgiving, and they’ll be glad not to miss Lib and Mason’s wedding.” Since Josh was part of the wedding party and his parents were friendly with mine, Mason and Libby had invited them to the reception. I breathed a sigh of relief knowing I wasn’t going to have to face them; I couldn’t imagine how they would react to the fact that Josh and I were dating, let alone me being pregnant. Taking my hand, Josh led me up the steps to the front door. Digging in his jeans pocket, he pulled out his key.

“Hey, where did that come from?” I asked in surprise. “I couldn’t find your key last night.”

He stopped in front of the door and smiled. “It was always in my pocket—maybe you didn’t really want to find it and secretly wanted me back at your place?” he said with a smirk, dropping my bag and pulling me against him.

“Hmmm, I’m pretty sure that wasn’t what I wanted when I was standing here knocking on your door at 2 o’clock in the morning. You were very close to sleeping on this porch,” I half-joked, reaching my arms up and winding them around his neck. “Standing here 10 hours later though, I’m very glad I couldn’t find your key.” I pulled his head down toward me and kissed him, nibbling gently on his bottom lip, and I felt him moan against my mouth. I’d only kissed him half a dozen times, but I knew I never wanted to kiss anyone but him again. The kiss began to heat up and he lifted me into his arms, turning me so my back was against the front door. It was the third time he’d picked me up that morning, and every time h
e did it, it turned me on more than the last time. I was breathless when he pulled out of the kiss.

“We need to stop, or else I’ll be fucking you against this door.” Turned on by his words, I buried my head in his neck.

“I think I like the sound of that,” I whispered against him, feeling him shiver as my breath tickled his skin. Tracing my tongue over his neck, I peppered tiny kisses all around his jaw, eventually finding his lips again. I could feel his erection pushing against me, and I ground my hips into him.

“Sav,” he moaned, pulling away again. “It’s not happening here,” he told me breathlessly.

“Spoilsport,” I said grumpily, pushing my hips against him again. I laughed as I heard him groan.

“Let’s get to Austin baby. The room I booked has a king-size bed and a walk-in shower. I plan on spending a lot of time naked with you in both of them,” he told me, his eyes never leaving mine. I nodded and smiled, so turned on that I felt like I needed a cold shower. He gently lowered me to the ground and softly kissed me on the lips. Reaching around me, he opened the door, the alarm beeping as we walked in. He punched in a number on the control panel on the wall before turning back and reaching for my hand. “Come on, I’ll just grab my stuff.” I followed him blindly through the entrance hall toward the winding staircase that led to the first floor. There were large vases dotted around the hall, full of wildflowers, and the fragrance from them hit you more the farther into the hall you walked.
