The Source (The Mindbender Series Book 1) Page 22

by C. S Luis

“Maya, Maya, Maya. What am I going to do with you?”

Alex moved her hand over the light switch, but it didn't work. She reached for the lamp next, and when the light came on, she found him sitting on the window ledge, looking back at her. There was an eerie grimace on his pale, youthful face.

  “Quinn!”

“The one and only. Who else would travel the regions of the universe to come find you, my love? I missed you. Your touch and your smell. You intoxicate me. Why do you do this? Why do you run from me?”

His hair was dark as the night, his skin the color of milk. He was beautiful, especially his purple eyes. A scaly leather uniform covered his frame—the same military attire he had worn when they'd fled the frozen wastelands of Antarctica.

“Would you rather live in squalor here than return with me as my queen?” He leaped off the ledge but didn't approach. The crystal on her wrist made sure of that. “You think any amount of makeup will hide your beautiful face from me? We are bound together.”

  “Stop it,” Alex shouted.

“I will never stop, my love. I've tasted you, and I want nothing else but you. You're mine…”

“No, you took me. Just like you've taken everything else from me.”

“I long for you, Maya. I miss you. I need you, and I can't be without you any longer. Please don't make me… I can't bear it anymore. I want to be with you. I love you.”

  “Stop!”

“Don't make me do something horrible. You know I will.”

  She frowned at him.

He moved forward, the hunger running through in his veins, the energy pulsing through both of them. She turned away.

“I need you, Maya. Please. You're all I think of every moment of my existence. You're in my blood now, coursing through my veins, coursing through my soul. You're a part of me. Nothing can change that.”

“You don't have a soul,” she whispered.

He laughed. “That's the fire I desire, my Maya!” He stepped closer.

“Stop!” She lifted the crystal on her wrist, and he darted back. “Don't come any closer. I am not yours.”

“It's time to stop this foolish game. I've allowed it, even tolerated it, but enough is enough. Your place is with me. What is it you seek? What is it that pulls you away from me?”

She shook her head, trying to fight his stare.

A slow smile spread across his lips, and he laughed. “You don't think I know why you've come all this way?”

She couldn't hide the truth from him, no matter what she did. “Don't you dare hurt her.” Alex rushed at him, holding the crystal in front of her like a shield.

Quinn leaped through the window, laughter fading behind him. When Alex reached the window, she leaned forward out of it to find him, but he was gone.
