“O-oh, I’m s-sorry,’’ she breathes out as she lies back down, her phone in her hand, but her eyes fixated on me. She’s so goddamn fucking beautiful.

“It’s fine,’’ I tell her, my voice low and husky.

She looks at me for a few seconds longer, her breathing heavy with the rise and fall of her chest. It’s take everything in me not to look down, knowing her plump, full breasts will be spilling out of her strapped top with every heavy breath she takes.

Her eyes pull away, down to the light on her phone and starts clicking away on her buttons, a smile ghosting her lips.

“All…done,’’ she smiles looking at me.

“Good,’’ I smile, and then smile wider when her phone beeps with an incoming message.

“Denny is up for it,’’ she laughs.

  “What she say?’’

“She said: Hell yes, baby. I need to socialise with someone other than Hope and Max.’’

I laugh along with her, knowing how Max is getting on Denny’s nerves, but I know no matter how much she moans about him, I know she loves him all the more for it, especially with the way he adores Hope.

“That sounds like her,’’ I chuckle as another message comes through on her phone.

“Harlow is up for it too, and I think Charlie will be asleep, but I’m sure she’ll be up for it. That’s if she can convince her mom to let her out of her sights. She was pretty obsessive with her the last time. Charlie said she would fuss over her, baby her, and follow her everywhere she went.’’

“Understandable,’’ I chuckle. “Isn’t Charlie an only child, too?’’

“Yeah she is. I think that’s why we’re so close. Both of us haven’t grown up with siblings. Must be nice for you to have all your brothers around you.’’

“It is, but sometimes it can become too much. Max can be a handful if you haven’t already noticed.’’

“Oh, I’ve noticed,’’ she laughs. It’s decided, her laugh has just become my favourite sound ever. She seriously doesn’t realise how breathtaking she is.

Looking at the clock next to her bed it reads midnight. Shit! Maverick. Quickly grabbing my phone out of my back pocket, I unlock it, and notice I’ve already received a few messages from Maverick.

Mav: Let me know you’re okay. You ran pretty quickly out of the house. That can only mean two things. Either Max has done something stupid and needs bailing out, or Kayla called you.

Mav: Max is back with a black eye and you’re not with him so I’m taking it you’re at Kayla’s. Give us a text and let me know what you’re doing tonight.

“Everything okay?’’ Kayla asks sweetly, looking at me with her big green, doe eyes.

“Yeah, it’s just Mav. I left the house in a hurry and didn’t get to tell him where I was going or what I was doing, just going to text him back.’’

“Oh no, are you in trouble?’’

“No, baby,’’ I smile softly, loving it when a blush rushes to her cheeks.

“Do you want me to stay? I can go if you need me to,’’ I tell her, hoping she doesn’t send me away. Her dad’s car isn’t out front again and from what Joan said the other day he’s been seen with another woman. Something tells me Kayla doesn’t know this snippet of information and I for one don’t want to be the one to tell her. She has enough going on in her life without worrying about who her dad’s banging.

Kayla looks over to the bedside clock before turning her attention back to me. “You can stay if you’d like,’’ she says hesitantly.

I smile at her and nod, not wanting to look too eager, then fire off a quick text to Mav explaining Kayla was upset because she had some bad news, and that I’ll be back in the morning to get showered and changed for school.

“We should get some sleep. We have to be up in the morning for school.’’

“I’m just going to get changed,’’ she says, then moves off the bed, her body jumping over mine and I groan wishing I could grab a hold of her hips and pull her down on me so she’s straddling my lap. I don’t, though, instead I watch silently as she walks to her chest of drawers, grabbing her pyjamas then walking out to the bathroom.

While she’s gone I quickly take off my trainers, then grab my shirt at the back of my neck before pulling it off and chucking it over the desk chair. I leave my jogging bottoms on, knowing it will most likely scare her if I only wear my boxers. Plus, it’s an extra barrier for when I get a hard on. It’s hard not to when I’m around the girl, She’s a walking, talking, super model, and because she doesn’t even see how beautiful she really is, it makes her that much more appealing.

She walks into the room after switching off the hallway lights. Just as she’s about to turn off the main light to her room she comes to a sudden halt, her body locking tight, and her eyes fixated on my stomach. I’m not like Max who is a gym junky. I don’t work out. However, it doesn’t mean I don’t have muscles where a lad should. But seeing her eyeing me, the way she is, like she could eat me and lick every inch of me is making my dick uncomfortably hard.

She visibly swallows, the movement making my dick jerk and throb, especially when her eyes slowly lift, running up my body until they meet my eyes, and I swear I can still feel everywhere her eyes have just looked over on me. Her eyes are blazing when her gaze locks with mine and I can’t look away from her. This is a side to Kayla that I’ve only seen twice. Once now, and the other is the last time I stayed and she woke up wrapped around me.

I cough, gaining her attention and she jumps. “You okay?’’ I croak out, not able to hide the huskiness in my voice.

“Yes, I-I was just thinking.’’ She blushes and I want to chuckle. Yep, whatever she is thinking about I wish I had front row seats too. I’d do anything to be able to hear what she is thinking right now. I’d give up my left ball. Why not my right? I have no fucking clue. It could be because I’m right handed and now I’m talking bollocks so I’m going to shut up.

“Come on,’’ I grin, lifting the bed-sheets up before sliding in, moving as close to the wall as I can get, giving her room to fit. Her bed is only a single, and I’m not a small lad, and the last time I stayed I slept over the blankets at the edge of the bed, nearly falling out every time I tried to move.

Slowly but surely, she walks over to the bed, stopping for a second to switch off the lamp before getting in. Her body is locked up tight and before I can give her a chance to freak out, I grab her hips and pull her against me.

“Relax,’’ I demand softly, and I’m surprised she submits the second the word leaves my mouth. “Goodnight, Kayla.’’

“Thank you for being here for me tonight,’’ she whispers into the dark. “I don’t know what I would have done if you hadn’t answered your phone.’’

“You’re never going to have to find out because I’ll always be here for you,’’ I tell her honestly.

Her heart rate picks up, I can feel it against my chest and I smile inwardly. She seriously has no clue how I feel about her.

“Thank you,’’ she whispers and for a second I swear she sounds choked up.

“Goodnight baby.’’ I whisper the words against her ear, kissing her head once before lying back down on the pillow.

She snuggles up against me; her body completely flush against mine when she whispers her next words, the sound of her voice going straight to my dick. I’m just glad she hasn’t said anything about my current wood sticking against her ass.

  “Goodnight, Myles.’’

  Chapter Nine

  KAYLA

The week passes pretty quickly and soon enough the weekend arrives. I was glad when my dad talked to my mom about letting me stay home this weekend. Any other time she would have refused, but then my dad told her about Charlie’s condition and I know she couldn’t say no without giving away her true colours to dad. He still has no clue who she really is or what she’s really capable of.

I know for a fact when I next go to her house there will be major consequences to face, but with everythin
g going on with Charlie, I can’t seem to care. For the first time in a long time I don’t care what she does to me. I know that will soon change once I’m back in her house, in her presence¸ and under her lock and key. There is no way this weekend is going to go ahead without any further punishment from her.

I’ve honestly not really thought about it much, my mind has been too consumed over Myles and the way he’s been with me over the past week. We’ve seemed to have gotten closer since the night he came over to comfort me over Charlie, and I’m actually loving it to the point I’m wondering when it’s going to end. I loved waking up with his arms around me, the way they make me feel safe wrapped up in them. I know my feelings for him have always been more than friendship, but since moving back to Coldenshire they’ve grown into something more, something I can’t describe. I just know it’s a feeling I never want to end, but also a feeling I’m too scared to explore.

As I’m walking down the path towards Denny’s house I get a message alert. Grabbing my phone I’m surprised when I find the message is from Charlie.

Charlie: I’m so sorry, but I’m not gonna make it 2nyt. I’m not feelin 2 gud nd mom wnts me 2 stay in and get sum rest.

Me: Is everything okay? Are you okay?

I look away from my phone and walk up to knock on Denny’s door. Her house is at the back of the Carter house. The older Carter and Mason, Denny’s fiancé, built it for themselves to begin with, but then Denny found out she was pregnant and the oldest Carter gave them his share of the house so they could move in. It’s pretty sweet to be fair. The place isn’t huge, but it is for them. It’s a three bedroom, I think, and it’s pretty spacious.

Raising my fist to knock on the door, I end up jumping back a step when the door flies open to reveal a Denny looking bubbly and excited. She’s always been beautiful, but since giving birth to baby Hope, she’s even more radiant.

“Hey,’’ she smiles then looks behind me. I look too, wondering who she’s looking at, but when I do, I don’t see anyone.

  “Where’s Charlie?’’ she asks confused.

“Oh, yeah! She’s just messaged me, she’s not feeling too good so she’s going to stay at home tonight.’’

  “Why what’s wrong?’’

“She’s got the flu,’’ I lie, knowing Charlie won’t want anyone to know yet. She hasn’t had time to process it all herself, so I know she won’t be able to handle questions from everyone else.

“Oh no, well, maybe next time,’’ she smiles, inviting me in the same time my phone alerts me of another message.

Charlie: I’m gud, jst tired and short of breath. I’ll tlk 2 u tomoz, promise. Love u an havfun

Me: I’ll try. Wish you were here. LOVE YOU more biatch xoxo

“Who’s that?’’ Harlow asks nosily as I walk into the front room. I burst into a fit of laughter. Denny or Harlow, or maybe both of them, have put a ton of blankets on the floor along with fluffy pillows. One’s I’m pretty sure aren’t apart of the downstairs decor. I swear, I could probably jump on it and bounce back up softly it looks that fluffy and cosy. They have a bunch of snacks in bowls and plates, drinks, and sweets on the table next to all the blankets.

“Oh my God. This looks amazing,’’ I grin, looking around.

“I know, when you text me on Monday about it, I got all excited,’’ Denny laughs. “I’ve even got wedding magazines to look at after we watch the first movie.’’

“It looks amazing,’’ I tell her, and start taking my coat off. Now I can see why she asked me to bring a spare set of pyjamas. It’s like every teenage girls sleepover fantasy. It looks so cool. I’ve never had this, and looking around the room, and at my friends it makes me choke up with emotion.

“So… who texted you?’’ Harlow smiles.

“Oh, Charlie. She can’t come, she’s not feeling too good and she’s going to be so bummed when she finds out what she missed out on.’’

“Is that why she hasn’t been at college all week?’’ Harlow asks, watching me as I take my shoes off next.

“Probably yeah,’’ I smile, wishing I could change the subject.

“Well the next time we have a girls night in we will have to do this all over again,’’ she smiles and I smile back. I love Harlow. She’s sassy, beautiful, but so shy at times. She’s kind, generous and I’m glad I got the chance to meet her, to get to know her.

“You need to get changed,’’ Denny demands, rushing back in the room with a clear box full of God knows what.

  “Yes, Mom!’’ I laugh.

“Ha-ha, now go get changed. Hope is over at the brothers’ house with Mason so you don’t need to be quiet going up. They’ll be back in a bit, but Mason said he wouldn’t disturb us.’’

I nod my head, smiling at her. I quickly rush up the stairs with my change of clothes before Denny chases after me and starts undressing me herself. I decided to bring my long pyjama trousers with a matching t-shirt. I usually wear shorts and a baggy t-shirt, but with the scars on the back of my legs I don’t want to scare the girls by flashing them around.

Once I’m changed, and I’ve packed my bag with the clothes I had already had on, I make my way out of the bathroom. A startled scream escapes my lips when I bump into a large, hard body.

“Hey, Kayla. It’s me, Mason. I just came by to get some more nappies. It’s okay,’’ he soothes, holding onto my shoulders. Footsteps come rushing up the stairs and Denny comes into view.

“I told you to make yourself known, that Kayla was up here,’’ she snaps at him.

“Babe,’’ is all he says, rolling his eyes. I shake my head and smile at the both of them, trying to will my heart rate to slow down.

“It’s fine. I just wasn’t expecting anyone to be outside the door. I’m sorry. Bit of a good job you weren’t putting a sleeping Hope to bed though, huh?’’

“Yep, that scream would have definitely woken her up,’’ Mason laughs bending down to give Denny a quick kiss.

When they pull away I’m blushing furiously. “Come on Kayla, let’s go downstairs.’’

We’re all sitting on the blankets, all of us leaning back with our heads on the sofa wearing face masks. As soon as I walked into the front room after getting changed earlier, Denny dragged me to the floor where she plastered both me and Harlow with facemasks before doing her own.

“How has school been going?’’ Denny asks me after a minute.

“Okay,’’ I shrug, and then silently curse myself when I remember they can’t see with the cucumber they have over their eyes.

“What about you with college, Harlow?’’ Denny asks her.

She groans. “I swear, I thought school was bad at times, but college is so much worse. None of the other kids sit and take in anything the teachers are saying. It’s a nightmare because half the lesson is wasted with the teacher telling everyone to be quiet. It pisses me off because if they didn’t want to be there they could have taken a year out.’’

“Wow, I’m taking it you’re not enjoying college then,’’ I tease, and both girls start laughing.

“I am; it’s just the others who don’t take it seriously. I really want to go to university and I can’t do that unless I pass college.’’

“Have you spoken with your tutor about it?’’ Denny asks.

“And look like a brownnose? Nope. I’m hoping in time they will either drop out or grow up.’’

“What about you, Denny, how is it being a mommy and a fiancé?’’ I giggle.

“Brilliant. I love it, but sometimes I miss you guys. I want to do something, but with Hope being so young still I don’t want to leave her. Just the thought makes me sick. I’m hoping to open my own business, but I never got to finish my evening business course, so I’m going to wait for Hope to sleep through the night before I start it up again.’’

“That sounds like a brilliant idea,’’ I tell her. I know she wanted to go to college, but when she found out about Hope, she decided not to. The birth would have interfered with her ti
metable. There was no point in her starting college only to have time out not long after to look after Hope.

“How are things with Myles?’’ Harlow asks out of nowhere, and my heart stops. Choosing to ignore her question seems like my best option, so it’s what I do. It’s not like she directed her question directly at me.

“Kayla?’’ Denny speaks up, her arm nudging mine.

“Oh, you’re talking to me?’’ and both girls laugh like my question is that funny. “What?’’ I say defensively.

“Oh come on Kayla, I heard Mav talking to Myles the other day about staying over at yours. What gives? What’s going on?’’ Harlow laughs, and if it had been anyone else teasing me I would think they were being mean, but I know with Harlow and Denny it comes from a good place.

“Nothing. We’re friends. He came over and we ended up falling asleep. That’s it,’’ I tell them, only half lying. I think bringing up Charlie will only cause more questions and I know Charlie won’t want anyone to know just yet.

“Yeah, yeah. Well, whenever you’re ready to tell us, then we’re here for you,’’ Harlow tells me softly.

“I know you guys are; there’s just nothing to tell.’’

“If you say so,’’ Denny says with a smile in her voice. She shifts next to me before getting up. Come on, it’s time to wash these off. Once we’ve done that I’m ordering pizza, that is if you don’t mind pizza. I’m starving.’’

“I could eat pizza,’’ I tell her, and Harlow agrees.

The pizza comes just as we put on a movie to watch. Harlow and Denny decided on a horror film saying they never get to watch one when the boys are around because they’re big babies. How the Carter brothers can get scared watching a horror film is shocking. They’re all big, muscled, and Maverick, the eldest brother, is scary as hell. He’s the only one with tattoos… that I’ve seen anyway. I asked Denny about it the once and she said they’re new, he got the full sleeve a few months back, but apparently the tattoos on his back and chest have always been there. It surprises me that the other Carter brothers don’t have them. But to think they’re scared of horror films is just something else.
