Zombie Lake: Still Alive Book One

Daddy Randy shook his salt and pepper hair and sympathized. "That sucks! Pretty much everyone on the island has lost someone." He looked into Robert’s eyes. "I’m glad at least the two of you made it, though."
Did he just say "everyone on the island?" Robert immediately realized that he had seen at least a dozen people as they traveled to the courthouse. There were people walking down the sidewalk and sitting on lawn chairs beside open tailgates. He now remembered seeing vendors with an assortment of items like fruit, vegetables, chickens, and everything else Robert imagined would be seen at a flea market.
After his belated realization he quickly formed a list of questions. "How many people are here? Are we really on an island? How did you get the zombies out of all of these buildings?”
The boss smiled at him from behind the desk. "Well that’s a long story."
He waited for Robert to respond, and he did. "I ain’t got nothing else to do."
The boss chuckled and shrugged. "I suppose you don’t, and I guess I have some time to spare. Hammer, can you go get their paperwork from Debbie while I catch them up?"
The Biker lady with the cool pink camo eyepatch, Hammer, nodded and left the room. Robert asked, "Paperwork?"
The boss responded, "Yeah, it’s meant to identify you and all that crap. I just figured that you would stay on the island." He raised his hand to tell Hammer to wait. "I’m not going to make you stay here, you understand. You are free to leave if you wish. But if you stay, we need paperwork. You can decide when it gets here.”
Both survivors nodded their heads, either in understanding or agreement...or maybe both. The man continued. "Now, let’s get to that story.”
Too be continued……….

Javan Bonds is the author of the newly released Zombie Lake, Book One of the post-apocalyptic zombie series STILL ALIVE.
Bonds has had to overcome numerous obstacles in writing as well as just living his daily life. Diagnosed at the age of 11 with Friedreich’s Ataxia (FA), (a progressively degenerative neuromuscular disease under the umbrella of the Muscular Dystrophy Association), he has slowly been robbed of his physical abilities through the years. Bonds became wheelchair bound in 1999 but that was only the beginning of his setbacks. His sight began to diminish in 2010 to the point he is now legally blind and his hearing began failing to the point he now can’t hear individual voices in a noisy room. In spite of all of this he continues to “read” three to five audio books a week as well as work on his future novels.
Bonds never letting his disability rule him has lived, loved, and laughed often.
Reading and writing has long provided Bonds with both pleasure and a creative outlet. He began blogging at a very young age and has written articles and letters for the local newspaper. In 2010, he discovered a passion for writing novels and with help of Nuance’s Dragon Naturally Speaking he has continues to write every day.
In late 2015 at only 28 years old Bonds was told he may have only a short time left due to the ravages of FA on his heart. After learning this he has been hard at work to complete his other novels and have them finished before his time in this world runs out.
In mid 2016 Bonds published his first novel FREE STATE OF DODGE, the first book in a dystopian series about an America in decline and its rebirth.
Javan has these words of wisdom to offer for others stricken by a life shortening illness:
“Live your life. Light your candle on both ends and let it burn. It may burn out faster but your flame will burn brighter than some who live much longer”
Bonds and his loyal service monkey, hope you enjoy Zombie Lake and all of the upcoming books in the Still Alive series.
Keep an eye on his flame, watch it burn!
