“I wish I could, too. They wouldn’t kill me if I were pregnant.”

He leaned down to kiss her. “I’m sorry about what happened to you. And someday, we will make a family. Even if we have to adopt.”

  She smiled. “Sounds perfect.”

He resumed kissing her for a long while. She had thought he would just jump right in, but he didn’t. He made a point of moving slowly over her skin, and it brought her to such a high place of joy, she almost reached down and shoved his dick in her herself. But she let him take his time.

When he finally climbed over her and pushed her legs apart, she could hardly wait anymore. Her heart still raced with slight fear. Was it going to hurt? But she trusted him. And if it did hurt, he would stop.

He rubbed the tip of his dick against her opening. He didn’t push in, but moved it in a circle, spreading her wetness. He dipped in a tiny bit, then a tiny bit more. Then he pulled back again, to rub around her clit. He moved it back into position and pressed just his head inside her. It left her wanting more and she pressed her hips into him, to show him it was okay.

He moved inside her a little at a time, keeping his thrusts shallow and gentle, until he was finally fully inside her. The pressure of him filling her gave her a rush and made her dizzy again. He moved in and out slowly, watching her to make sure she was okay.

He sped up a little and seemed to decide that she was really okay because he moved harder into her. As he moved harder and faster, the sensation returned and she was close to orgasm again. She dug her fingers into his hair and pulled. She moaned in his ear and he sped up more.

When the feeling broke over her and she came again, she cried out. He moaned too, and pushed into her with several harder slams, then stopped, breathing heavily into her ear.

They lay together in front of the fire, their skin glistening with sweat. He trailed his fingers along her arm and down her waist.

“Are you okay?” he asked, nuzzling his nose against her cheek.

“Yes,” she said. “I appreciate you going slow with me. It made it much easier.”

  “I’m glad.”

  Chapter 20

The next days consisted of making food, keeping the fire going, and spending time wrapped up in each other. They made love several more times, and each time, Audrey felt better about it. She hadn’t even needed to be drunk last night when they had. She felt like she’d gotten some sort of healing with him, and it made her feelings for him even stronger.

“I’m going out for a run,” Kenny called to her.

Audrey stood naked in the bathroom, drying off from her shower.

Every day, many times a day, they took turns running around the property to make sure no one was coming near, whether it was tiger shifters or realtors trying to show the property.

She went to get dressed, and only a few minutes after he’d gone out, Kenny returned. He thundered up the stairs, shouting, “We have to go, we have to go!”

She yanked her shirt over head. “What? Why?”

  “Tigers.”

She hastened to finish dressing, then grabbed her bag. They’d been living out of their bags in case this happened. All they had to do was grab bags and go. No time wasted on packing. Kenny picked up his bag and they ran together down the stairs. In the kitchen was one more bag—their food. Kenny also paused to snatch the bottle of whiskey—though it was nearly empty—from the coffee table.

They hurried out to the car and were closing the doors when the pack broke through the woods. Kenny stomped on the gas and the tires screeched. The tigers ran after them for a few miles, but when they got close to a main road, they dropped into the woods at the edge of the road.

  “That was close,” Audrey said.

“You’re telling me. I got out there and barely made it around the house when I caught the first scent.”

  “So, now where to?”

“I don’t know.” He looked in the rearview mirror and made a face. “I think we have a tail.”

“Only when I shift,” she said, winking at him.

But he wasn’t in a playful mood. He kept watching the mirrors and making fast turns. “Get your seatbelt on.”

She did and craned in her seat to see behind them. “The blue car?”

“It’s been following us, even through these crazy turns I’m making.”

“Should we just lose them then get a hotel room or something?”

“I guess. Unless you have some other place to go.”

  “No,” she said.

“Well, let me try to lose them.”

Kenny made several sharp turns, cutting people off, stopping suddenly. He got plenty of honks, but didn’t manage to lose the car following them.

“We’re going to run out of gas soon,” he said.

Audrey glanced at the gas gauge, then the blue car still trailing their every move. “So, now what?”

“Let me try one more thing.”

Kenny sat at a red light, waiting to turn right. He watched the cars coming carefully and when they were close, he pulled in front of one, causing it to slam on its brakes, hard. The car honked and Kenny sped off. He made several more fast turns. The blue car couldn’t have pulled out behind them since there were cars in the way. They had finally lost them.

Kenny pulled into a parking garage and circled around it several times. “Maybe we should sit here for a little while.”

  “Do you think it’s safe?”

He shrugged. “Nothing is too safe anymore. But, we could entertain ourselves.”

He grinned and leaned across the seat to kiss her. After making out for twenty minutes, she said, “Let’s get to a hotel room so we can finish this.”

Kenny pulled his mouth into a half smile. “I like that plan.”

They had been heading north, but now headed west, hoping to further lose anyone who might be after them. Kenny watched the rearview mirror religiously, but even after stopping to get gas, they didn’t seem to have gained a new tail.

They found a cheap motel, and paid for the night in cash, using fake names.

“Want to get a pizza or something?” he asked.

  “Sure.”

“You order it. I’m going to take a shower.”

She called and ordered and while he was still in the shower, had an idea. She quickly stripped out of her clothes and lie on the bed, naked and waiting for him.

He came out of the tiny bathroom and his eyes widened. “Trying to get us a free pizza?”

She threw a pillow at him. “We have forty-five minutes before it gets here.”

  “Guess we better hurry then.”

He came to her and dropped his towel. His damp skin was chilled, but he quickly warmed up as they began kissing and caressing each other. Audrey had been feeling exhilarated with her little plan. Lying there, stretched out like that and naked, waiting for him, was something she’d never done before. It made her feel vulnerable, but his reaction made her feel sexy and desirable. Still on that high, she pushed him over so he was lying on his back.

“I want to try something different,” she said.

Until this point, they’d kept things pretty simple. He had been on top, and they hadn’t tried any new positions. But she had always wondered what it was like to be on top and take control of things. Now she climbed over him, kissing down his stomach like he did to her.

She put his hard cock in her mouth and sucked and flicked it with her tongue. He moaned in pleasure, and knowing she was making him feel good, made her feel even higher. Like she was a sexual goddess, here to make her subject feel as good as possible.

She kissed back up his chest and tugged on his lip with her teeth. Then, she reached down and grabbed his dick, sliding it inside her. He let out a deep groan of pleasure and gripped her hips. She wasn’t exactly sure what to do, but he helped her, moving her hips up and down on his erection so that he slid in and out of her.

She liked this feeling of control. She tried lying down flat on his chest and sitting up s
traight to see how it changed the sensation. She bounced on him, keeping his thrusts fast, then she ground her hips down to take him as deep as he could go.

He reached out to grab her and pulled her back down to him, pulling on her hair and slamming hard into her until he cried out and came. She continued to lie flat on his chest, moving up and down so that her clit rubbed against him until she felt the now familiar feeling of orgasm as well.

They panted together, their skin sticking in their sweat. Then the knock on the door came.

“You really think they’d give it to us for free if I answer the door naked?” she asked.

“Go find out.” He slapped her ass as she climbed off of him.

She giggled before she pulled open the door. But instead of the pizza delivery man, Kara stood facing her, hand on her hip.

“So, I guess you’ve been having fun,” Kara said.

Audrey glanced behind her and Kenny was on his feet, behind her in seconds.

“What do you want?” he said.

Kara rolled her eyes. “Let me in.”

Kenny stepped in front of Audrey and closed the door, then locked it. “You think we’d just let you walk in here and kill us?”

“Did you guys order a pizza?” she asked.

Audrey’s stomach growled. She had been looking forward to the steaming hot pizza.

There was some muffled voices as Kara talked to the pizza guy. “Oh wow, this pizza is so good,” she said.

Audrey looked at Kenny with a pleading gaze. He shook his head.

Kenny leaned close to whisper, “Get your things ready. We’re going to make a run for it.”

She went to pack up their bags and get dressed. It didn’t take long since they didn’t have much. She tossed some clothes at him and he dressed, too.

“You know there’s no point in running,” Kara said. “We’ve found you how many times now? It’s been two weeks. Aren’t you sick of running yet?”

  “Ready?” he whispered.

She nodded and slung her backpack on her back. Kenny yanked the door open and wrapped an arm around Kara’s throat.

“Get in the car,” he said to Audrey.

Audrey gave him a horrified look. They hadn’t talked about hurting her. Even with all that had happened, she knew Kara was just doing her job. She didn’t want her friend hurt.

  “Get in the car!”

She jumped and ran to the car, hopping in behind the driver’s side so they could make a fast get away. She watched as Kenny put his knife to Kara’s throat and spoke to her. She couldn’t hear from where she sat. She pulled the car closer, waiting just feet from them.

Kenny dropped his knife and shoved Kara hard. She stumbled and fell to the sidewalk, looking back up at him with an angry glare.

He stooped to grab the rest of the pizza and jumped in the car.

“You’re lucky there were no other tigers,” she said.

“That was the only way I could know for sure if there was. They wouldn’t have let her be threatened like that. Now we know for sure no one else is here.”

She considered that for a moment. Was that the only reason he’d done what he did? “What did you say to her?”

“Just made a bunch of threats. Told her we had a bear clan on standby and it would take seconds for them to come. Since she was alone, she knew she’d be killed real fast if it were true.”

She let out a sigh. “I’m glad you didn’t hurt her. And thanks for grabbing the pizza.”

He handed her a slice. “Glad I didn’t hurt her? Why? She ordered you to be killed.”

“She’s just doing her job. She was a good friend for a lot of years. My best friend, I guess.”

  “You pick some good friends.”

“She’s just doing her job. She made exceptions for me as it was.”

He shook his head and turned in his seat. “Have you seen anyone after us?”

  “No.”

After a while, they pulled over and he got into the driver’s seat. “How do you think they keep finding us?” he said.

“I don’t know. Our scent? Good tails? I’ve never seen them chase someone like this before.”

“Let’s get near the water. Maybe it’ll help drown out our scent if we’re not around trees and grass and nature that carries our smell.”

After hours, they reached the coast town. They found a cheap motel with rooms that connected in the middle. They booked both to keep one for an escape option, though they’d only use one. They settled in, but made a solid escape plan for the next time someone showed up at their door.

  Chapter 21

When another two weeks had gone by and no one showed up, they started to think maybe they were in the clear.

“We need to get more groceries,” Audrey said, looking at their dwindling supply of snacks. “And maybe we can look for a more permanent location if they haven’t found us in this long.”

“I guess we can start with a trip into town.”

“Good.” She hurried to her shoes and pulled them on. “I’m so bored.”

They drove to the closest grocery store and stocked up on pretzels and chips and salsa and noodles in a cup, which they used the microwave in their motel room to make.

They got back much too soon. “Can’t we just go out or something? Movie theaters are dark. No one would see us there,” she said.

“We better not chance it,” Kenny said, rubbing his hand across Audrey’s stomach and pulling her close to kiss her neck. “But I can think of other ways to entertain you.”

She pushed him off. “My stomach is feeling a little queasy. I need to eat something.”

She made a cup of noodles and sat down on the bed to watch TV. They’d been watching a lot of TV lately and all she wanted to do was get out and run. She missed her job and the fast-paced environment, the way she felt important and needed and like she was doing something good every day. Sitting around all the time doing nothing felt awful. Every morning, she had dread about the day ahead, knowing they would be sitting around, eating and having sex, and watching TV. She was sick of it.

“Feeling better?” he asked, curling up beside her.

“My stomach is, but I’m bored. I can’t live like this forever, Kenny. Don’t you need to get out there and run?”

“Yeah, I have had that need since I got shot. I couldn’t run for weeks, remember? I couldn’t get out of bed, or even pee by myself. You think you’re bored now? Try not being able to move for weeks.”

She hung her head and sighed. He was right. She had little cause to complain, and he’d been through much more. But that still didn’t stop the antsy feeling from eating at her skin. “I’ve never dealt with anything like this before. My job was so busy and fast, I haven’t sat so much in years. How did you deal with it?”

“Found a pretty girl to distract me.” He winked at her.

“I don’t think that would work for me.”
