His hands reached my back and squeezed me tightly, bringing my body more and more closer to him.
A sensation of happiness filled my whole being while I felt and realised I was in his arms, before the possibility of feeling his smell and touching his skin, even frozen.
His pale fingers went through my long dark hair, announcing his passion of faithful protector. He really was there and I could feel him with clarity.
Then I raised my head and gazed at his face, but my gaze wanted more and it met his gray eyes.
“I cannot live without you.” I confessed to him, still looking him in the eyes.
His hands caught my face and slowly pressed my pale, cold cheeks.
“You’ll no longer live without me.”
He smiled tenderly and continued talking.
“I’ll be at your side forever.”
I closed my eyes, trying to believe in those sweet words that were capable of making me the happiest vampire in the universe.
“I love you so much...”
My voice was interrupted, as soon as my lips touched his chest. He held my face again and lifted it up in the direction of his face. His lips moved slowly in the direction of mine. My mouth absorbed his tongue’s taste, his spittle and his ragged breathing against mine.
***
I opened my eyes and glanced all around me. I realised I was lying down in the middle of the dry trees in the woods.
Farther on, Lyon was standing, observing me.
“What happened?”
I asked him, albeit I was a little dizzy.
“You fell asleep for hours.”
Then, I looked at the dry leaves on the ground and I perceived everything had been a dream.
But the dream I had about Eros seemed so real, so intense I thought I would never awaken from it.
“Are you okay?” Lyon asked me as soon as he approached me and lowered his gaze to my face.
“I dreamed of Eros.” I confessed looking at my sides, while the dream was still alive in my mind.
“Was your dream good?” He insisted.
“Yes, Eros was with me in the Valley of Death.”
Lyon smiled slightly and informed me, “You can always dream of him, you just need to drink the tea of dreams.”
My cheeks made a slight movement during my smile to Lyon. This same smile was my smile of hope, because I would be next to Eros in the course of my dreams.
Lyon stretched out his hand in my direction and said,
“I think we must go back to the castle.”
My right hand touched his and he helped me get up. My long black dress was full of dry grass and fragments of dry leaves that were caught on it.
Chapter 22
I passed over the castle front door as I walked by vampire Lyon’s side. Usually silence in the castle always echoed our steps with exactness. Lyon looked satisfied to know that his magic portion had really worked and it also was agreeable to me.
He stopped in the corridor and held my hands and implored, “Don’t say anything about what happened at the woods to anyone, not even to your father.” One of his hands passed lightly over my hair. “This is our secret.”
His voice sounded much lower, just for me to hear.
My head nodded, agreeing with everything he said.
Then, he freed my hand and we walked toward the castle corridors.
***
My father’s bedroom door opened and I walked into his room after I had a bath and changed my dirty dress for a clean one. My father was lying on his marble bed, with his belly up. Then, I walked in the direction of his bed and I made sure that he had fallen asleep again. I wanted to ensure that his sleep would last for an indeterminate time.
Then I thought that if it wasn’t for Lyon’s company, I would feel alone in that tedious castle until the day my father would return from his deep sleep.
Chapter 23
Due to my father falling asleep, I had more time to be at Lyon’s side, where he prepared the tea of dreams for me several times and I drunk them with so much pleasure. This had been the one and only way I found to be almost all the time at the vampire Eros’s side.
Because of this, I began to sleep for several days in my bedroom. As soon as I woke up to my real world, I looked for Lyon in the castle and said him, “I want more of your tea.”
He was always willing to prepare the tea of dreams for me.
But this tea had consequences not favorable to me and it was making me weak and abated every time I took it. When I woke up, I wanted it more and more, as if this tea was like a drug.
I preferred to live in the unreal world at Eros’s side, where my dreams were all propitious to me and to the deep love I always felt for Eros.
Why was it necessary for me to be living awake?
While Lyon observed me as I was fallen asleep in my bedroom, he smiled, already imagining I was dreaming of Eros. Then he put the bottle into his long coat pocket and walked to my bed. His right hand touched my pale face, as he noticed I was much anemic due to the constant doses of the tea of dreams.
“Dream of your vampire, Valkyrie!” He said in tender voice.
“Even though he doesn’t deserve this sacrifice.”
Chapter 24
Death Valley
The owl flew close to me, while I was sitting down on the ground, next to lit candies, skulls and some crosses on the ground. This same owl came to the ground and turned into a vampire in black pants, boots and a black cape.
Eros bent down in front of me and his right hand touched my pale face.
“I was crazy to see you.”
His voice was soft and attractive.
“Me too.”
I held his hand and kissed it with devotion. Then, he got on his knees and his fingers touched on my left shoulder.
His hand movements over my skin made me tremble, while his gaze completely brilliant and gray attracted mine.
He tore his cape from his boy and threw it away on the ground and again his fingers touched my shoulder and also the strap of my long black dress. I looked at his hand, while it moved my dress strap. Unexpectedly I was surprised by a provocative kiss on my lips.
My eyes closed as I wanted to feel every emotion I was feeling at that moment. I was as if I was with him in truth. I wanted to be in that place, in Valley of Death, with skulls, lit candles and several crosses over the ground.
Before my dream could finish, I ended up awaking. I saw I was in my bedroom, lying on my marble bed, the window curtains swung from side to side.
I touched the ground with my feet, and walked in the direction of the door. I went slowly through the castle to look for vampire Lyon, and I ended up finding him in the living room.
He was sitting in an armchair, holding a blood glass.
“Lyon, I need more tea.”
My voice was absolutely weak and my steps were slow. I was quite anemic and full of shadows around the eyes.
“I need more of your potion,” I implored him as soon as I approached him and caught his dark shirt.
Lyon got up when he noticed I was almost falling on the ground. I could barely stand in front of him and maintain a posture of a healthy vampire.
He crossed his hands around my legs and lifted me up into his arms.
“I am going to take you to your bedroom.”
“I need your magical potion! I need to go back to my dreams!”
I tried to convince him but I was almost unconscious.
***
Receiving my orders, the vampire Lyon prepared another formula for me to take and this time this tea was quite strong. I knew I was running the risk of falling asleep forever.
He placed the bottle into my hands as I was sitting in my bed. But he turned his back to me and left my bedroom before I could take the tea.
At this moment, Eros was in Uranus, walking by the cold rocks. He stopped walking as soon as he had a vision of my pale and unhealthy body gazing at the bottle with a green liquid.
I was
ready to drink this tea again.
I was ready to drink the tea, which would be the last decision of my life.
Eros appeared in my bedroom, giving a leap over my bed and he took the bottle away from my hand and threw it against the wall. The bottle burst against the wall made me awaken fully and then I saw Eros was in my bedroom.
“Eros!”
I shouted out, even though my voice sounded weak.
“What are you doing?!” He asked as he came walking in the direction of my bed.
“Stop it! Or you’ll end up falling asleep forever!” His voice sounded desperate.
“I don’t care about myself!” I answered looking down at my bed. He stopped next to my bed, in front of me and his body became almost transparent.
“Look at me and see yourself!”
I looked at his body, almost transparent, and I could see my own image for the first time, after I became a vampire. I was very drawn and with deep shadows around my eyes. I had lost aroundseven kilograms.
“See how weak you look!”
Eros finally retook his normal body after that, because he felt himself weak. It took a lot of energy for him to turn himself into a mirror for me.
When he recuperated his strength again, he came back next to my bed. I rose slowly from my bed and stood in front of him, but weakness left me a little curved.
“I don’t take care. If all I have is living with you in my dreams that is wonderful!” I confessed gazing into his eyes. Eros shook his head, held strongly my wrists and shook me violently.
“Stop it now! I am not joking!”
“I promise I’ll stop taking this tea if you promise me that you’ll stay on Neptune.” I said gazing into his eyes and my gaze could see through his afflicted emotions.
He glanced at his sides and remained silent.
“All right!” He finally answered and freed my arms. Then he took two steps back and said again,
“But I won’t live in this castle. I will go to stay at the woods until I am sure that you are out of danger.”
I ran up to him and hugged him with what little force that still remained in my body.
“I can’t believe you’re back on Neptune!”
He held my hands and immediately removed them from his body. His gaze was stuck to mine, while he pronounced decidedly, “I’ll just stay in Neptune until you are out of danger. I didn’t come to remain on this planet forever.”
Chapter 25
Finally, Eros left my bedroom, after I had returned to my bed. He made me rest, knowing I had been quite fragile.
Then, he closed the door slowly and this stopped him from continuing to look at me. I fell asleep in my bed.
The vampire walked slowly by the extensive corridor of the caste and he stopped walking at the moment he saw a creature before him, nearly at the corridor’s end.
It was the vampire Lyon that was in front of him.
The two vampires looked at each other and they perceived how much they were similar to each other. However, they didn’t say anything, not even a greeting. But the exchange that happened between them didn’t leave doubt that they weren’t satisfied at each being in that castle.
Eros felt ill in front of his own second self.
The vampire Lyon was a creature that brought doubts and suspicions to Eros. After Eros saw me in this state, so drawn and weak, he knew it all was because of a tea of dreams that was invented by Lyon.
Eros didn’t know what Lyon wanted to do to me, where he wanted to achieve with that. He didn’t know if Lyon wished to help me or destroy me.
Thinking of these things, Eros took ten steps forward and stopped in front of Lyon. Their gray eyes met each other and they frowned at the same time.
Eros bit his own lips with resentment and said in a threatening voice, “I keep an eye on you!”
Lyon smiled and said then.
“I confess we look completely alike!”
“I don’t know what place you came from but I am sure you are nothing like me!”
Eros walked in front and left the vampire behind, but he stopped walking and glanced back at Lyon. Then he said,
“I don’t have the same character as yours.”
Lyon remained silent and Eros walked ahead and left the castle.
I was protected because the vampire Eros was on Neptune again, at least at the surroundings of my father’s castle.
Danger still was too close to me.
