Temptations: A Limited Edition Contemporary Romance Collection Page 86

by Blue Saffire

Baring my naked self to another person always unnerved me, no matter how much I worked out. I swallowed my doubt as she scanned me up and down, taking in the scars on my chest and the tattoos covering my arms.

I'd had enough after a minute and approached her. She placed her chilly hands on my pecks and trailed them around my neck, pulling me back to her lips. Her mouth tasted like champagne and the rich Alfredo she ate at dinner. The sparkling wine was quickly becoming a favorite of mine as well, thanks to this woman.

I delved into her mouth, drawing her in with my tongue, while urging her body closer with my hands. She pulled me back into the bedroom, her lips still meshed with mine. I fell back on the bed before I even realized where I was.

Seeing her over me, naked, and flushed pink in arousal was one of the sexiest sights I'd ever seen. She climbed up and straddled me. The wet heat of her slid along my hard cock, and we both gasped in unison.

The slightest contact, the short whispers of flesh along flesh, amped my excitement higher than it had ever been before. I reached out to lift her exactly where I needed her, but she grasped my wrists, each tightly held in her hands. I knew my eyes must have widened because she got one of those small grins—power and sex perfectly intermeshed in an innocuous facial expression. She leaned forward, lifting her ass off me in order to secure my wrists against the bed near my face.

I let her have free reign. What man in his right mind wouldn't allow such a stunning woman to have control of him?

"I have plans for you, Alex," she whispered against my ear. I instantly shivered as her breath fanned my ear and neck.

I cleared my throat, fearing my response would come out in an unmanly squeak. "What might those be?"

She let her body fall flush against mine and nibbled the lobe of my right ear, and I arched my hips up into hers. "First, I'm going to get you more excited than you've ever been in your life," she said, deliberately panting against me.

"Then I'm going to climb up on the bed so I'm facing that mirror over there, and have you fuck me from behind so hard I'll have bruises on my hips."

The image of doing what she asked flashed in my mind and my cock jerked in response, I ached to be inside her. "Well, part one is complete. I've never needed another person this much."

"Never?" She bit her bottom lip, and I easily dislodged my wrists from under hers, reached out, and kissed her gently.

"Never." I let go of her face and dragged her up on the bed to get her in the requested position. She was so beautiful, all soft curves and pink skin as I looked at her in the mirror. Suddenly, I remembered safety, and Helena must have seen my face in the glass.

"Side drawer," she said as she pointed. I dove across the bed and grabbed the condom closest to my fingers.

I quickly slid it on, my hands shaking as I reached out to draw her closer to me. Lining up our bodies was the easy part. As I slid inside her, I almost lost it. Hot, wet heat surrounded my cock, and I groaned in appreciation.

As she requested, I cupped my hands on her hips, getting a good grip. She squirmed under my touch as I held myself inside her. Her excitement matched my own. I mastered myself and slowly pulled out, but she wiggled back on me. Her need aroused me even more. I slapped her ass, and she stilled. I heard the sharp exhale as the pain seeped into her flesh.

  "I think you liked that."

Her head fell forward, out of my sight. I withdrew again and slammed back inside her hard. She let out a short squeak and gripped the blankets under her hands. It was time to give her exactly what she wanted, and I was going to enjoy every second of it.

I withdrew again and then slid back inside in long hard movements, drawing her back against me. Her upper body relaxed onto the bed, and I took complete control of her pleasure and mine.

It must have only been minutes, but felt like an hour when she shouted into the curled up blankets. "I'm going to come!"

Seconds later, I felt the deep, gripping pulse of her surrounding my cock, and I held on through it, continuing my pace until the pressure eased. I was proud I lasted through it, but my orgasm quickly caught up and blasted through me. All I could do was hold on as her wet heat milked me until I couldn't stand the sensations any longer, and then held myself deep inside of her.

My breaths came in pants, and I couldn't even remember the last few seconds. I slowly withdrew from her body and helped rearrange her legs to what had to be a more comfortable position. She sighed as I curled up behind her, both of us slightly damp. I removed the condom and pulled up a blanket.

"Did I do it right?" I asked as I planted a gentle kiss on the column of her neck.

She responded with an incoherent sound, and I knew I'd done well. Nothing was sexier than a well-satisfied woman in my arms.

  Helena

I woke up in a fog, the morning light streaming through the window. It took a moment to recall the events of the previous evening, but when I did I smiled, a surge of happy lethargy suffusing me. I looked at the clock: 7:00 a.m. I blinked and sat up. Court started in an hour. Alex was nowhere to be seen, but I spied a note on the pillow sitting on the floor. I grabbed it.

  * * *

  Dear Helena,

I had some things to go over before court today, so I left early.

You're sexy when you take up the whole bed.

  See you in a bit,

  A

I smiled and rolled onto my back so I could climb out of the mound of covers wrapped around me. Once I stood, I stretched and the slight heat of the sun resting on my shoulders added to my good mood.

I dressed quickly, then grabbed all my paperwork. Alex would be in court and I couldn't wait to see him, even if we were adversaries.

The courtroom was quiet when I entered since I was a bit early. Alex stood on his side of the courtroom talking to the defense. I couldn't keep my eyes off him, until I realized with whom he spoke.

Someone had to swerve around me as I stopped mid-stride. My papers would have fallen if I hadn't had them tucked so tightly under my arms. All the joy and happiness I felt upon waking this morning swelled and deflated in my chest like a popped balloon.

Jace had hired Alex. They were whispering fiercely to each other behind the defense's table.

The realization and implications swam through me as the betrayal doubled in size and swamped all my cool, collected calm. I felt the tears well up, and I turned around to leave, but bumped right into Michael.

He gripped my upper arms and bent to look into my eyes. "Helena, what's wrong?"

I shook my head. I couldn't be there for any length of time because I'd either kill both of them or, even worse, cry in front of them. I lifted the files and shoved them into his chest. "Take these. My notes and analysis are there. I can't do this job. I can't be here. I'm so sorry."

Michael furrowed his brow and looked like he was going to speak again. I shook my head and bolted out the doors, leaving them swinging on their hinges as I ran.

As I stood on the curb waiting for a taxi, I knew this betrayal was going to scar. In those short five minutes since I had left the courtroom, Alex had texted me twice, no doubt getting my number from whatever source he used to get my address.

  Alex: Where are you?

  Alex: What's wrong?

I deleted them both and stepped into the car, heading back to my hotel room. It seemed someone could usurp my top place as the local jury consultant, and he'd done it with tricks and lies.

A pint of ice cream wouldn’t do it this time; I grabbed a half-gallon. I'd known the man less than a week and yet my heart still ached. Somehow, Alex's betrayal hurt more than Jace's. I'd already known Jace was a prick, so it didn't seem to matter when he broke my heart. But the fact Alex made me feel like the sexiest woman alive, and then betrayed me—it hurt. I knew then what it felt like to have a broken heart. I couldn't pretend I was in love with the man. I'd only known him a short time. I liked him, a lot, but calling it love, lust, or even a fondness did
n't matter, my heart still broke.

It was noon, fifteen text messages, and four voice mails later when the pounding began at my door. I wanted to ignore it, but the longer I didn't answer, the more intensely he seemed to renew his force. I opened the door, and he looked me up and down with a quick, assessing glance.

I couldn't even pretend I wanted to speak to him. I left the door open and curled back up on the couch with the book about court analysis I was reading.

  "Are we back here?"

My hand itched to throw the book in his face as I looked up at him. So I did. I lifted the sturdy tome and launched it toward him. It didn't even come close to hitting him, but it made me feel better.

"What happened was me showing up to court today to find out you were hired by the man I was supposed to marry a few days ago," I yelled.

He crossed his arms over his chest and stared at me without a shred of guilt in those eyes. "I was hired by his firm, not him. I didn't even know he was the lawyer on the case until this morning, or the fact he worked for the firm. I don't ask questions about my lawyers when I work, I ask questions about the jury."

I pursed my lips. It made sense, but part of me didn't want to believe it.

He uncrossed a hand and pointed it at me. "You're just looking for an excuse out of this."

"Of what? There is no this…we've been on one date, for Christ's sake."

He chuckled and shook his head. "You don't even realize I'm already falling for you. If this, whatever this is, ended right now, I'd be upset. It would hurt."

"We've known each other for such a short time, Alex."

He threw up his hands and let out a long groan.

As he approached me, I scooted back into the couch, my work clothes crumpled and in disarray.

He got down on his knees in front of me, putting us at eye level. "I want to see where this could go. I want to see if I could fall in love with you. I'm not ready to give up on this."

It was a misunderstanding, my misunderstanding. Relationships had ended on even less, and I allowed myself to be stupid in the face of it. The sting of betrayal that caused the few short moments I spent yelling at Alex was wrong. I shouldn't have taken out my own insecurities on him.

Hope and fear climbed up my throat, but I swallowed it. "Do I have a say in this?"

He pursed his lips. "Only if you're going to tell me to get naked and come to bed."

My anger and frustration eased as he reached for me. When his arms drew me in, I realized all I needed was him to hold me. That was it.

My behavior in court was an overreaction, and I should have let him explain his side of the story before I started tossing law manuals at him. Another deep breath and I felt more like myself. His scent crowded me, arousing me already.

I curled my hands around his shoulders and up into his hair, hugging him close and hard before I released him enough to whisper in his ear. "Get naked and come to bed."
