Hlesey is an island above the Undersea Hall of Aegir and Ran.
Huldra is from Norse mythology, a woman with long blond hair who always wears a crown made of flowers. She has the tail of a cow. She is believed to seduce young unmarried men into marrying her. If he agrees, then she will change into an ugly woman with the strength of ten men and lose her tail.
Imps are often small and not very attractive creatures. They are seen only by the most observant people because they like to hide. They have been known to be wild and uncontrollable. Often taking jokes too far, they tend to irritate most humans. Imps have also been known as being “bound” to some sort of object. In the case of Dunkle, he is attached to the Serpent’s Ring and is sworn to protect it.
Jormundgand is a serpent so enormous that he is able to wrap himself around the world. If he were to let go, the world would end.
Jotunheim is the land of giants in Norse mythology.
Labyrinth is a place with a lot of complicated passages, tunnels, or paths in which it would be easy to become lost.
Mermaid is a mythical sea creature with the head and upper body of a woman and the tail of a fish instead of legs.
Mysticus Latin for mysterious or enigma.
Odin is the king of the Norse gods, god of poetry, battle and death He is a very important god.
Ran is married to Aegir and was known to drown men in her net and pull them under.
Sea Serpent is a giant snake often reported to have been seen at sea.
Serpent’s Ring is transmuted gold, shaped like Jormundgand (a serpent forming a circle with its body and biting its tail). In this tale only, the Serpent’s Ring is a key to unlocking Jormundgand.
Sigurd is a mythological hero in Norse mythology. He killed Fafnir, who was in dragon form, and bathed in Fafnir’s blood thus becoming immortal.
Telekinetic is the mental power to move objects without the use of physical force.
Terra is Latin for Earth.
Transfiguration is to have the ability to transform the appearance of something or somebody.
Trolls are fearsome members of the Scandinavian society who live in the wilderness or in caves. They are devious beings with oversize ears and noses.
The Undersea Hall holds Aegir and Ran’s grand festivals to both gods and mortals, in Norse mythology.
Vor is the goddess who knows it all.
The Waves are the nine daughters of Aegir and Ran. Each of their names has a different meaning.
Himinglaeva is a reference to the transparency of water and that through which one can see the heavens.
Dufa is the pitching or plunging one.
Blooughadda is a reference to red sea foam.
Hefring is the riser.
Uor is frothing wave.
Hronn is welling wave.
Bylgja is billow.
Drofn is foam-fleck.
Kolga is cool wave.
Many believe Norse gods and other mythological beings of ancient Scandinavia represent aspects of the personalities, our emotions and many qualities that make up the psyche of the human self.
The Serpent’s Ring is loosely based on Norse myth.
