Dance Academy Learning to Fly

Page 7

by Meredith Costain

‘Absolutely,’ I tell him.

On the long journey back to the farm, I think about how important families are. Not just biological families, I realise, remembering the photos of my friends stashed safely away in my luggage. When someone’s family, you just know. They’re the people who turn up when you least expect it or who are ready to give you a hug without being asked. The thing about family is, it doesn’t matter where you are. When you’re with them, you’re home.

I have two now. Two families. Two homes. And I know what it’s like to feel on top of the world.
