  Abbie

“I think that guy over there is giving you the fuck me eyes.”

I lift my brows and give my friend, Charli, an incredulous look over the rim of my glass before taking another sip of the tropic fruit concoction.

She’s not wrong. I could feel his eyes pinned on me from across the crowded bar for the last hour.

And truth-be-told, I’ve taken notice of him, too, because well, he’s difficult not to notice. He seems to command the room in his tight, form-fitting black T-shirt that hugs his chest snugly, providing a nice view of every ridge and valley hidden underneath. His biceps hulk under the edge of his short sleeves, with a dark sinister-looking tattoo playing peek-a-boo from underneath the confines of the material.

The potency of his dark eyes that have tracked my every move, coupled with that impressively hard body, is the hottest thing I’ve experienced in years.

Because it has been years since I’ve been anywhere other than a classroom or had my head anywhere besides in a text book. That’s what graduate school will do for a girl.

But not this week. This week I’m on Spring Break with my college besties – one of whom is getting married on the beach this weekend – and tonight I’m enjoying a night out at a beach club in Los Cabos.

My college friend, Charli, nudges me with her sharp elbow in my ribs, a curve etched into her red-lipstick smile.

“Holy shit, Turtle, that man is so yummy. If you don’t do something to tap that tonight, I will never speak to you again.”

Her voice is chirpy, but her narrowed-eyes directly pinned on me are deadly serious. She will not forgive me if I don’t make good on the promise I made.

To have a one-night-stand with a hot guy that I’ll never have to see again.

Charli, my friend since we were pledges in the Mi Alpha Alpha sorority, will never let me out of this pact, doing her part to ensure I get my head out of my proverbial shell.

Which is why I was named ‘Turtle’, a nickname given me by my sorority sisters due to my introverted bookish personality. Also, because I’m a very slow decision-maker, especially when it comes to men. I’ve never been able to move quickly when it comes to love.

Charli bumps me again and flicks her head over her shoulder.

  “Now or never, darlin’.”

She tilts her head in a warning signal, flashing her steely blue eyes in a way that promises action.

“Charli, don’t you dare embarrass me.”

She makes a scoffing noise and holds up her empty glass in the air to signal refill time. “Two tequila shots and two cervezas, por favor.”

Returning her gaze to me, her tone is laced with skepticism and doubt. “You’ve got time for one shot of tequila and a beer. Then it’s go-time. Tomorrow everyone else is arriving, so tonight’s the night.”

I sigh, knowing I need to grow some balls and just do it. Reluctantly, I lift my glass for her toast.

“Now drink up and let’s kick this week off in the right way. With hangovers and a night of multiple orgasms.”

We clink our glasses and down our shots, as the group next to us echoes their enthusiasm. “Here’s to multiple orgasms,” they all reply as we erupt with laughter.

Coughing against the sting of the shot coating my throat, I place the empty glass on the counter, and return my gaze to find the same sexy pair of dark eyes still staring at me. This time, they’re attached to a smirk and a lift of a glass in my direction.

I can feel my face turn furnace hot, knowing that he must’ve figured out what we were toasting about.

And as I take a cooling swig of my beer, I gather my cojones and decide to make my way over to the man who’s been giving me tingles all night long.

Only this time when I look up, he’s gone. Regret lines the back of my throat like bitterness where the alcohol just soothed.

I swivel around scrambling to catch sight of where he went, glancing through the crowd trying to spot that sexy-hot man.

I hunt with a needy gaze for the man with the dark eyes and magnetic pull. When my search comes up empty, I feel my stomach drop with bitter disappointment to my toes.

Pinching my mouth in a pout, I turn to Charli to convey my regret.

“Well, looks like I lost my chance. Hot guy is gone. I was too slow, as usual.”

And then prickles on the back of my neck skitter and dance, and hope flickers once again.

With wide eyes and a “not-so-fast-there-missy” grin, Charli points with a finger over my shoulder. I don’t move for a second, my feet nailed to the ground, because I can sense him.

I know it’s Hot Guy standing behind me.

“Slow and steady might just win the race for you tonight, Turtle.”

I turn around, the butterflies in my stomach flittering wild and messy. There before me is Hot Guy, his bulk blocking out everything else around me, leaving me in his imposing and sexy shadow.

Craning my neck, I look up into the dark intensity of his eyes as he smirks down at me.

  Zayne

I’m not sure what had me locking in on the beauty in front me initially, but I haven’t been able to take my eyes off her since first glance.

Maybe it was her shy but dazzling smile. Or the brilliant glimmer in her blue eyes that rivaled the sun’s midday diamond sparkle off the Sea of Cortez. Or it could be the fabulous rack that is prominently displayed in her off-the-shoulder blouse that caught my attention.

Whatever it was, it pulled me in ways I haven’t been pulled in a long time.

Now that I’m within a foot of this auburn beauty, awareness streaks through my spine like a hungry tiger ready to pounce.

My eyes scan her body appreciatively head to toe, drinking in every curve of her voluptuous body. From the sweet center between the hollow of her throat, to the plump cushion of her tits that beg to be worshipped. I’m nearly thrown off kilter from her soft, breezy tropical scent.

This girl is going home with me tonight.

  “Interesting nickname. Turtle, huh?”

Her lush, heart-shaped mouth opens and then closes, as she twists her head to her friend, who seems intrigued by what’s happening based on the amused smile across her face. The friend bumps my girl in the shoulder.

I let out a chuckle, lifting my left brow in interest.

  “Y-yes. I mean, no. It’s just…something I’ve been called since college.”

She’s cute when she’s flustered. Something deep inside me roars with the knowledge that I rattle her in that way. It produces images of things I can do to her to make her shake, stutter and quake.

The blonde beside her clears her throat and says something like, “I’ll be right back,” but my attention sits solely on the woman in front of me. Turtle.

Nodding in appreciation, I lift my beer to encourage her to say more, my lips twitching in what I hope is a charming grin. I’m not known much for my charm. Only my bold directness and authority. That’s served me well in my role as a SEAL team captain.

  I dominate. I order. I command.

  I don’t normally charm.

But something about this woman makes me think I need to pull it back just a bit before taking what I want.

Sliding into the spot at the bar her friend vacated, I set my drink down and swivel to face her, my elbow sitting against the wood grain of the counter in an easy, relaxed manner. Even though nothing in my body is ever relaxed. I’m on constant high alert for threats and potential risks. Awareness of my immediate surroundings is imperative in my line of work.

“Are you still in college, Turtle?” I ask with a cock of my head, unable to determine precisely her age, but guessing she’s at least in her early twenties. I’m not opposed to college girls, but I’d prefer a woman who knows her mind and has some experience under her belt.

She dances nervously on her toes, her body unconsciously swaying in time to the music playing in the background.

Her shoulder-length, cinnamon-colored hair swings over her shoulders as she shakes her head.

  “Yes and no.”

I laugh out loud, my head falling back before I meet her wide-eyed gaze again. “You’re quite the contradiction, aren’t you? I already understand the reason for the nickname.”

“Why?” She pouts in a disapproving frown.

Leaning down, my lips hover at her ear covered by coconut-scented hair. “Because you take your time and don’t rush things. I like that. I like the slow-and-steady. It’s the opposite of my speed.”

“Oh,” she replies, leaning her head back, her lips pursing in an O shape. “What speed is that?”

“It’s a professional hazard, I guess, but I’m always full-speed-ahead. If and when I slow down, it’s only in the bedroom. There I take my time and make it last all night.”

I’ve shocked her with my comment but haven’t scared her off. Not based on the way her eyes flash bright and her body gravitates toward me. The heat of her body ignites something inside me. Demands that I make her mine tonight.

But only tonight. There’s no room in my life for anything else.

My duty is to my country. To my men. A personal life outside of that gets messy and complicated. I don’t want to have to work to make someone happy. Not when I saw how unhappy my mom was when she was with my dad, who was also a Navy man.

Her voice is clear, but I can hear the slight tremble in it. The sensual element within her response.

“And just how do you do that? Make it last all night, I mean.”

  And there it is, folks.

Sexual interest. It’s there, plain as day, slashed vividly across her gorgeous, sun-kissed face. The bite of her lower lip is also a dead giveaway.

My hands itch to reach out and caress the silken strands of her hair. But I hold off and use my words to seduce, instead.

“I enjoy foreplay. Teasing you while I’ll explore every inch and curve of your body,” I murmur, leaning in so my lips hover at her ear. She shivers and I feel the warm puff of air that she exhales in the form of a sigh. “I’d make you come until you see stars and think you can’t do it anymore. And then I’d start all over again.”

Taking a step back, my eyes roam the soft features of her face. The gentle slope of her nose that rounds at the end into a little button. Her eyelashes flutter and her cheeks flame a bright pink over the golden tan she wears.

I have no idea how she’ll react or how this will play out. Usually I’m good at identifying the tells that people display. But this girl, not so much.

Which reminds me, I haven’t even gotten her name yet.

“By the way, I’m Zayne. Do you have a name other than Turtle?”

Winking, I offer her my hand, my lips curving into an evocative smile.

She returns the smile – part coy, part timid. I like that about her. She’s a good combination of both.

“Abigail. But everyone calls me Abbie.”

Our palms meet, her trembling hand soft and pliant in mine. I take a chance to flip her hand over, palm up, tracing the lines suggestively.

“Nice to meet you, Abbie. Can I buy you another drink?”

She scrunches her button nose and shakes her head, tilting it slightly before turning those beautiful crystal-blue orbs back on me.

“No,” she confirms, finishing the last drop of her beer before placing the empty on the counter and once more biting on that luscious lip. “I think I’m ready to go.”

Disappointment floods me. It’s not often that I’m turned down and rejected. Especially by someone I’ve had my sights set on.

I give her a nod, pursing my lips together, ready to bid her goodnight.

“Okay, then. Well, it was a pleasure meeting you, Abbie. I hope I’ll see you again.”

And then her shy, sweet smile turns into a gigantic flash of white as she grabs hold of my shirt collar and reaches up on her tiptoes to press a kiss to my cheek. My cock aches at the connection. Her lips leave a berry-gloss scent in the air between us.

“Actually, Zayne. I’m ready to leave with you.”

  Check please.

  3

  Abbie

In keeping with the safety protocol Charli and I started in college, I ask Zayne for his license and identification, take a snap of it and send it to Charli, who’s now chatting with one of Zayne’s entourage on the other side of the bar. When she gets the text, she raises her glass and nods at me before waggling her eyebrows.

Zayne’s hand rests at my lower back, gently leading me toward the doorway. As we pass the group of guys he came with, three men all nod their goodbyes with salutes.

  “Have a good night, Captain.”

A crease forms in the center of my brows, as I look up at him for explanation.

  “Captain?”

He chuckles, a deliciously low vibration that takes up residence in my tummy, dancing and twirling around in delight.

“Yeah, my last name is Kirkpatrick. So, they’ve shortened it for my nickname. Captain Kirk.”

  “Ah, Star-Trek nerds. I see.”

He laughs but says nothing more as we walk out of the bar and into the tropical, spring night air. The sky is dark with the bright moon hanging high above us, like a beacon to light our path.

We only make it about ten steps when a group of three guys pass us, one of them bumping into my shoulder and knocking me sideways, as I nearly face plant on the ground. Zayne’s quick reflexes save me as he swings an arm around my waist, keeping me from falling.

When I tip my head back to look up at him, regaining my equilibrium, I feel the earth shift again under my feet. This time from the way his dark gaze infiltrates and hijacks my senses, leaving me feeling dizzy and weightless.

He suddenly pulls me into his chest, his full lips inches from mine, one of his hands on the underside curve of my butt and the other sliding along my neck, sensation rippling through me.

“I’ve watched you all night, Abbie. Stared at these lips and wondered what they taste like. I need to know how delicious they are.”

I open my mouth to…well, to do what, I don’t know exactly, just as Zayne’s mouth descends upon mine, his thumb strumming under my chin and tipping it up and to the side to give him access.

Although he’s caught me off guard, and I was clearly not expecting him to kiss me in the middle of our walk, everything in my body concedes to his demands.

His kiss is as intoxicating as the drink I had earlier and the heavy tropical scent of bougainvillea and lilies that line the lighted pathway has my body floating, as if I’m being carried out to sea. His kiss has turned me loose and limp in his arms, as he holds my head and plunders my mouth with his flavorful, open mouth kisses.
