About the Author
Born in 1961, Frank Gardner is the BBC’s full-time Security Correspondent, reporting for television, radio and online on a wide range of UK and international security issues.
A fluent Arabist, with a degree in Arabic and Islamic Studies, Frank was previously the BBC’s Gulf Correspondent in Dubai then Middle East Correspondent in Cairo. He has written for GQ, the Economist and the Daily Telegraph among other publications. His first book was this memoir, Blood & Sand. A bestseller in hardback and paperback, it was followed by a second bestseller, Far Horizons, in which he recalled his experiences as a passionate traveller to remote places.
Awarded an OBE for services to journalism and a winner of the prestigious El Mundo Prize for International Journalism, Frank Gardner is married with two children and lives in London. He is President of the Ski Club of Great Britain.
