Another Place Page 24

by Matthew Crow

Beyond there was darkness, and beyond and beyond. But in that moment there was only light, and warmth and love. I had been taken and I had been returned. And this would happen again and again, but having lived through it once I knew I was strong enough to weather whatever lay ahead.

I was not Sarah, and I never would be.

There would always be a home to return to. And I would always find the path back there; no matter how long it took.

I’d go away and I’d come back.

And I’d go and I’d come back.

  And I’d come back.

  I would always come back.

  Acknowledgements

Thanks, as always, to my friends and family. Particular thanks to Katie C, whose name I couldn’t quite fit anywhere but here, yet who never once mentioned it and maintained a dignified silence on the subject throughout.

Thanks to Broo Doherty, for over a decade of putting up with my endless bullshit.

Thanks to everyone at Atom, whose individual efforts deserve more than this thoughtlessly collective acknowledgement.

And thanks to Sarah Castleton, for making books better.
