Without waiting for an answer, he picked Alice up into his arms and walked out of the room.
Alice snuggled into Julian’s arms. She felt safe and warm there. She didn’t want to leave him for the rest of her life.
MacIntosh was to be tried for Rogers’ murder. And the best part was that Celia Howell had refused to back up his claims about blackmailing members of The Rakes Club.
“I don’t know what he’s talking about,” she’d told Inspector Wilcox the next morning. “He wanted to use a member of that circle of friends to hurt Shaw. Mrs. Hamilton was the easiest person to get to.”
Even Alice had been convinced by her performance.
They had so much to do to get ready for the wedding, but Alice didn’t really want to leave this bed. Julian had hired a crew of men to box up her belongings and bring them to the house. She didn’t give a damn what happened to the furniture, and she told him so. That meant whoever purchased the house would be getting a bargain.
And, best of all, Julian said the money would go to her, not to him as society would dictate. “A bargain,” she’d said with a laugh.
“We need to go on a honeymoon,” he said. “Cannonberry and Amelia did not get one, although we are thinking about remedying that. But I want you to have one. Tell me where you want to go, my love.”
“I want to stay in bed with you,” she said.
“We can do that in whatever place we choose,” he said. “Do you want to go to Paris? Amsterdam? Maybe somewhere in Scotland?”
“I want to go wherever we can fuck,” she said.
“I have news for you, my love,” he said. “My cock works in all the places I mentioned. Although, I think in Paris we will be able to shop at some of their more illicit stores and find some new toys.”
“Then Paris it is,” Alice said. “And Julian, brings lots of money. I want to buy all the toys we can find.”
“I love you, Alice,” he said. “I need to thank MacIntosh for starting this whole thing, so we could meet.
Alice swallowed and said words to a man she’d never uttered before. “I love you, too.”
His arms tightened around her and Alice closed her eyes. Her latest case had brought her home, and she couldn’t be happier about it.
