Marius was watching the battle and he had to admit that Junius was doing a good job with his army, which were attacking in an orderly and disciplined manner. But despite their controlled offensive, their teeth and claws were having little effect against spears and fire.

Junius would fail; his horde was no match for the undisciplined but brave locals who were fighting for their freedom. He noted with irony that he’d referenced the Greeks’ struggle for liberty against the Persians, and now it was these very same people fighting for theirs from a despotic host. He wondered if some of the Kin were actually old enough to have been some of those original Persians.

A loud shout pulled him from his reverie. Looking around he saw that on the other side of the circle, the Kin were attacking in their previous manner, and were clutching and grabbing at the defenders as if crazy things. The battle had subsided in other places, as the Kin now seemed focused on one area and already several men were running over to give assistance. Without thinking Marius ran over to help as well.
