Eagle: A Linear Tactical Romantic Suspense Standalone Page 23

by Janie Crouch

“You’re not wearing any underwear.” His voice was strangled, just how she wanted it. “Now who’s sneaky?”

  “Can’t handle it?”

He rocked his hips and she slid farther down, felt the wonderful burning stretch of him. “Once I let go, I won’t be able to haul it back. You know that,” he whispered.

She nipped his lip with her teeth. “I want that.”

He didn’t say anything further, just sat up straighter in the chair, curved his arms up and around her back until his hands cupped her shoulders, then pulled her down onto him.

  Hard. Fast.

He moved his hands to her waist, lifted her up, and slammed her down on him again. Over and over.

This heat and fire and storm was them. Had always been them.

  Forget gentle.

Her head fell back as he reached his hand under her skirt and swept his thumb across her clit in firm, brutal strokes. She was gasping his name a few moments later as her orgasm crashed over her in waves.

She hadn’t even caught her breath before he had his hand fisting in her hair and was yanking her face up to his. “I have never, from the moment you stepped into this town and caught both my eye and heart, thought you were weak. You got that?”

He punctuated each word with a thrust of his hips. All Charlie could do was wrap her hands around his shoulders and hold on.

“I think we’ve covered hard and fast,” he said. “Let’s move on to dirty.”

Before she could even figure out what was going on, he picked her completely off him and spun her around, so she was still straddling him, but facing away from him on the chair.

She gasped as he slid back inside her, this angle making him so much deeper.

“You want babies?” He whispered in her ear, hand still fisted hard in her hair. “I’ll give you as many as you can handle. I’ll give them to you in whatever way you want. Soft, gentle, hard, fast. Ride me, dirty girl. I want to feel you come apart all over me.”

One of his hands pushed between her shoulders, forcing her to lean forward until she had to catch her weight on his knees. Her eyes rolled back in her head as every movement now drove him against that spot inside her that made everything burn.

  “Ride me, princess.”

She did. Hard, fast, and dirty. When his fingers slipped around to add to the madness, she keened his name as colors flashed behind her closed eyes and all she could feel was him. Distantly, she heard him call her name as his hands gripped her hips with bruising force and he emptied himself inside her.

He eased her against his chest, her skirt keeping their naked skin hidden. They just lay there, draped around each other for long minutes until their breathing finally returned to normal.

“You are very definitely a sneaky bastard,” she said when she could finally pull a coherent sentence together.

“I’m sneaky enough to keep you on your toes for the next fifty years or so.”

The way he’d just blown her mind? She didn’t doubt it for a second. “Promise me, Eagle, that it will always be you and me, no matter what.”

“It was always us, princess. Maybe we had to be apart these years, so we could understand how right we are together. We might have never truly appreciated that otherwise. But from here on out, yes. You and me, no matter what.”

She snuggled closer to him, feeling his strength surround her. She was a fighter, she always would be. And their love was worth fighting for.

  Acknowledgments

Just like a mom with her kids, I know an author is not supposed to have a personal favorite book… But I’ve got to admit, Eagle is mine. (shhh! Don’t tell!)

But there are many people that deserve my gratitude for making this a beloved book:

First and foremost, still and always: my husband, aka Captain Awesome. New seasons in our lives have brought challenges, but we always manage to handle them. I don’t care what the variables are, as long as the constant is us.

To my kids, now all in high school and one in college. Thank you for sharing me with the voices in my head.

Again, my undying gratitude to my tribe: Marci, Girl Tyler, Anu, Stephanie, Regan, Nichole, Julie, Beth, Lissanne, Elizabeth. Every time you spot something I missed, or encourage me about something you liked, or just bully me to get one more page written…you’re a blessing.

To my editors and alpha readers: Elizabeth Nover, Jennifer at Mistress Editing, Marci Mathers, Elizabeth Neal, Stephanie Scott, and Aly Birkl. Thank you for your patience, consistency and hard work. I depend on you so much and you never let me down.

And to my readers, especially the Crouch Crew: THANK YOU. Thank you for your emails, your messages, and your support. It means everything. I promise I will always endeavor to write the stories that keep you enthralled from page one. Life’s too short for boring books!

  With love and appreciation,

  Janie Crouch
