“Okay I will call now and get a transport” the officer said.
“Just hold on we are going to get you to the hospital” the nurse told Susan.
“Okay” Susan said with a smirk in her face.
They just don’t know that I am about to do. They fall for anything. Wow they are so pathetic Susan thought to herself. I will soon be out of here so I can complete what I started she thought to herself.
“Alright the ambulance just pulled up. Let’s get her out of here.
“I think she will be okay for now. The hospital will look after her” the officer said.
Susan could not believe she was actually going to be free. This is going to get good she thought.
Janet finally made up her mind to go and see Michael. I have to face him sooner or later.
“Just ring the call button to let us know when you are ready to come back to your room” the nurse said.
“Okay. Thank you” Janet said.
“You are welcome” the nurse said.
It looks like he is sleeping so I will just wait till he awakes.
Michael turned his head and thought he was seeing things. No it can’t be Janet. My mind is playing tricks on me.
“Michael? It’s me Janet.”
“Hey I thought I was dreaming or something. You know how the meds can be” he said.
“Yes I know but you are not dreaming. I am really here” she said.
“I am glad you came and I know it wasn’t easy for you to come. I am so sorry Janet for everything and I know you probably don’t believe me. I don’t even know why I did it. Just got weak I guess” Michael said.
“I kept thinking to myself should I come and see you. I knew I had to Michael. I can sit here and yell or scream at you and it won’t solve anything. I don’t know why you did what you did and it seems you don’t either but hopefully we will find that out. I knew about the affair because I overheard you on the phone with that woman. One thing I do know is I forgive you Michael. I forgive you for hitting me as well. I know some will say I am crazy but I can’t hate you because you know that’s just not in me. Yes you hurt me and it will take time to trust you again. All I can say that we need to go to counseling and try to make this work. If you don’t then I can’t force you. It’s up to you. I think it’s best if we separate for a while until we get ourselves together. I think it would do us both some good” Janet said with tears.
“Okay if that is what you want. Honey you know I never meant to hurt you. I got caught up and it never should have happened. I am willing go to counseling or whatever it takes. I will make it up to you I promise” Michael pleaded.
“You forgot one thing, the baby she is carrying. We will just deal with it when the time comes. I am tired now so I am going back to my room and get some rest. I will see you tomorrow and you need your rest as well” Janet said.
“You know I don’t deserve you. Okay we will talk tomorrow. Janet I love you” Michael said.
“I love you too” Janet said.
“Sleep well. Talk to you later. I will tell them you are ready” Michael said.
Chapter 17
Susan had to come up with a plan of escape fast. Time was wasting and she wanted to get this over with. Okay I think I can do this now.
“Oh my! This pain is terrible! Please hurry!” Susan screamed.
As soon as the paramedic turned around to look at something Susan rammed her foot right into her back. That caught the paramedic off guard and she fell forward on her stomach. Susan got up off the stretcher and mad a dash for the door. The other paramedic heard the commotion and came back to see what was going on. Susan’s foot caught her right in the stomach and the paramedic fell down. Susan made a dash for the street right before the officers came out the door and discovered what she did. I have to find some clothes, shoes, and a place to hide. I need to get some hair dye too. Maybe red will look good on me she thought. I have to find somewhere to go and quick. She spotted a lady in the alley getting out of her car with some clothes and shoes in her hand. The lady said she could have them because she was getting rid of them. Perfect this was working out pretty good. Now I have to find somewhere to change my clothes. There is a fast food joint that I can go into she thought.
Michelle hoped that everything would work out for Janet and Michael. I was still mad at him but in the end it was Janet’s decision so I am behind her in whatever she decides to do. I can’t wait to get out of here and go home to my husband so we can plan our future with our new addition that will be here soon.
“Hey, why aren’t you sleeping?” Janet asked Michelle.
“Trying to wait on you to see how things went” Michelle said.
“It went good. We are going to try and work it out that’s all I can do for now. All we can do is try and if doesn’t work we can at least walk away and say we tried” Janet said.
“Yes that is so true. In the end it’s your decision, nobody else’s” Michelle said.
“Okay let’s get some sleep now. Goodnight” Janet said to Michelle.
“Goodnight” Michelle said.
Charles was glad he went to see Janet Reynolds. She is a sweet lady and didn’t deserve what happened to her. Susan on the other hand is another whole story. I don’t know what got into her to do something like this, I really don’t. I hope she learned her lesson and I do want to know if I am a father or not. I guess time will tell on that matter.
I have to get this hair dye quick and get out of this store. The clerk keeps looking at me so I better get it and make a run for it. Thank goodness a customer came in so the clerk could be distracted. Okay here goes nothing she thought. Susan grabbed the dye and made a dash for the door.
“Hey! Hey! Come back here! The clerk yelled.
It was too late Susan had already made her getaway with the hair dye.
I am so tired from that running and now I need to rest so I can come up with a plan to get a car she thought. I know it won’t be easy but I can pull it off she thought to herself.
“How did the prisoner escape?!” the officer asked.
“She pulled a fast one on us” one of the paramedics said while holding her stomach.
“Unbelievable! She tricked us all and now the Sergeant is going to chew me up and spit me out! I am too old for this! Time to retire” the officer said.
The paramedics nodded their head in agreement.
“Of all the years I have been a paramedic, this is the first time anything like this has happened” one of the paramedics said.
“Yeah probably won’t be the last either” the other paramedic said.
The sun coming through the blinds woke Janet up. I hope they let me go home today she thought as the yawned. I need to get cleaned up. She was going to take her time to get up she wouldn’t wake Michelle. My legs feel so weak she thought as she let them dangle off the bed.
“Excuse me? What are you doing?” Michelle asked Janet.
“I was trying to go get washed up and not have to bother anybody” Janet replied.
“You could have called for the nurse or wake me up. You know I don’t mind helping you at all” Michelle said
“I know but I have to learn to do things on my own because I can’t expect someone to be with me all the time” Janet said with a smile.
Michelle helped Janet to the bathroom.
“Call me when you are done” Michelle said.
“Okay” Janet said.
Michelle was worried about Janet and how she was going to get through this. Janet is strong so I know she will be okay. Just can’t help but worry.
“Michelle?” I am ready now” Janet called.
“Okay”. Well look at you all spruced up” Michelle said with a smile.
“I feel so much better now. That water felt so good” Janet said.
“Glad you enjoyed it” Michelle said.
“Well at least you have me and Michael to help you” Michelle told Janet.
“We decided to separate for awhile until we get
ourselves together” Janet said.
“I don’t know if that is such a good idea with you not having your full strength back yet” Michelle said with a look of concern.
“Yeah that is true. I didn’t think about that” Janet said.
“You know what? The doctor did mention about some rehabilitation so you may have to go to their facility. You will have someone to help you so, it won’t be that bad” Michelle said enthusiastically.
“I guess it won’t be that bad. I will talk with Dr. Jackson when he comes to see what happens next” Janet said.
“Okay. Great” Michelle said.
Chapter 18
“Excuse me? May I trouble you for a minute?”Susan asked the lady in the checkout line.
“Yes? What can I do for you?” the lady asked.
“I am a bit down on my luck” Susan told her.
“What do you exactly mean?” the lady asked Susan.
Before she replied to the lady Susan looked around to make sure she saw no one she recognized or the police.
“Well I had to make a quick escape from my husband. You see he is very abusive and I have been trying to get away from him for years and today was my lucky day” Susan said with a smile.
“Wow I hate that you went through that ma’am, I really am. Well I can help you with a few dollars. I know it’s not much but I don’t want to see you without any money” the lady said.
“Thank you so much. It will help me. Only thing I need is a place to stay just for the night. I promise you I am not a bad person ma’am, I just need a place to lay my head and I will be out of your way. By the way my name is Denise” she told the lady. Well I had to make that up real quick because I don’t want to use my real name she thought.
“My name is Lana. Alright you seem like a nice person. Just let me pay for the groceries and we will be on our way” the lady said.
“Okay no problem and thank you so much” Susan said smiling.
Wow! People will believe anything these days. I hate to do that to that lady but I have some unfinished business and I plan on finishing it she thought to herself.
“Well Mrs. Reynolds looks you are slowly improving. I want you to do some rehabilitation to get your muscles back on track. Probably the whirlpool or sauna will help you too. We will get you back on track Mrs. Reynolds, don’t worry. I want you to stay in the rehab for about three or four weeks then we will go from there. I want to keep you here a couple of more days here in the hospital then to the rehab. Well Mrs. Waters it looks you are doing well yourself. I think you can go home today. There seem to be no complications so I see no reason to keep you here” the doctor said.
“Okay if you say so doc. I am going to miss being here with my friend though” she said smiling at Janet.
“Yeah I am going to miss you too bestie” Janet said with tears in her eyes.
“Don’t cry. You know I won’t be far away. In fact I will be a phone call way” Michelle said.
“Well ladies it has been a pleasure. I will get your discharge papers started Mrs. Waters. I will check on you later Mrs. Reynolds” the doctor said.
“Well I need to call DeWayne to let him know I can go home today. I know he will be so glad because I know I am” Michelle said with a big smile.
“Make sure you take care of yourself and the baby. I know Dewayne will take good care of you both” Janet said.
“Yes you already know he will” Michelle said.
“Oh yeah without a doubt” Janet said.
“I need to stop and get some gas before we go home” Lana told Janet.
“Oh okay. No problem” Susan said.
As the lady went into the store to pay for the gas Susan knew she had to act fast. It was a good thing Lana left the keys in the car, now all she had to do was drive away and then find another car to switch to throw the police off she thought to herself. Well it’s time to get this show on the road. Janet slid into the driver’s side and looked to see if Lana was on her way out. From what she could see Lana was in a long line so she wouldn’t be out for a while. Well it’s all or nothing Susan thought as she started up the car and sped off. She could see Lana in the rear view mirror running and pointing at the car. I should have enough time to keep ahead of the police. Yes, finally on to some more important business that should have been taken care of she thought as she hit the highway. Now who should I pay a visit to now she thought to herself. Oh yes this was going to be so much fun. I told them this was not over and I meant what I said. I still need to dye my hair and do it quick. I don’t have time so I will just have to wear this hat Lana has in here. I might as well enjoy my freedom now because it will be over soon she thought to herself as she drove.
