  And now, Nermesa, too, could expect to find himself immersed in the maneuverings of the nobility and wealthy, the ambitious and the treacherous. He had just stepped into the proverbial lion’s den . . . with only a sword and his wits.

  Yes, war could be brutal, but the politics of Tarantia . . . Nermesa realized that they might prove more deadly than any well-honed blade.

  He could only pray that he would be ready when the first such battles began.
