Jason Page 10

After three years of marriage, she still loved him more each day. Seeing him now, giving the parentless children produced by the revamped breeding program the love and care they deserved, warmed her heart. Once Dr. Flanders had been arrested, Senator Healy nominated Marina to become the new director of the facility. She had worked tirelessly with the help of countless others to turn the breeding program into something they could all be proud of. Jason and the other men and women who had been forced into the program offered invaluable input to help ensure the new volunteers who entered the program received all the care they needed, including psychological and emotional.

Marina slung her purse over her shoulder and headed downstairs. Jason had become involved with the nurseries, helping to ensure the babies and children were happy and well adjusted. His memories of growing up in the facility were useful in assisting with the development of new guidelines and regulations that would give the orphans a happy childhood until they were adopted. She was so proud of his work, and had made sure he received the recognition he deserved for his part in turning a nightmare into a good place.

She stepped into the late afternoon sunlight, and children’s laughter surrounded her. It was a sound heard far too infrequently before all the changes were implemented.

Jason joined her with a smile and drew her close for a kiss. “Ready to go home?”

  “Yes, if you are.”

“I’m always ready to go home, because it means I finally have a real home.” He gave her another kiss and turned toward the approaching children and adults. “My wife tells me it’s time to go.”

Most of the children offered good-natured protests, but they knew he would be back in the morning. One little blond-headed boy broke from the group and ran toward him with outstretched arms.

  “Daddy! I go home, too!”

“Of course, little man.” Jason scooped him into his arms and kissed his forehead. “We could never forget you.”

Marina’s heart overflowed as she gazed at her two-year-old child. Senator Healy had arranged for her to see the leading fertility doctor in the country. While she was still infertile and unable to conceive or carry a pregnancy, the doctor had managed to retrieve a healthy egg. Through the generosity of one of the women in the breeding program, Marina and Jason had their own biological child.

Little Aaron leaned toward her with a big grin. “Hi, Mommy!”

“Hi, son!” She took him from his father and hugged him.

Jason put his arm around her and guided her back through the facility and outside. He drew in a deep breath as they headed for the parking lot. “I will never take walking out of that place for granted.”

She leaned into him, as grateful as he was for the freedom and family he deserved.

  About the Author

Feyna Blackwell pens romance designed to warm your heart and stir your soul. She is fascinated by ancient history, particularly the Ancient Near East, and has a soft spot for pre-Columbian North and South America. The only reason she doesn’t write true historical romance is because of the huge amounts of research it would entail, much of which is difficult to find since she has a fondness for civilizations that may or may not have kept written records. When Feyna is not working on a manuscript or researching a story idea, she loves to read and spend time in her garden.
