Epilogue
Bryn Morrow paced in front of the portal. In her excitement, she’d arrived early and was now forced to perfect the art of waiting.
She sucked at waiting.
The moment the portal began to glow she halted her steps. Who would be first? Her money was on—
“Dani!”
Danielle Montrose Degraff emerged from the portal. Her strawberry blond hair was shoulder-length now, which accentuated her natural waves.
“Hey, Bryn.” Dani hugged her friend.
“This isn’t a mission, you know,” Bryn said, patting the weapon strapped to Dani’s back.
“I don’t travel without Revival,” Dani replied.
The portal glowed again and Cerys appeared, immediately followed by Mia.
“I can’t believe everyone’s on time,” Dani said. “I was sure somebody would get called away on a last minute mission.” That had happened the last two times the friends had tried to get together.
“I actually scheduled a holiday,” Cerys said. “I promised my family I’d visit them, too, while I’m in the quadrant. My sisters have been harassing me for months.”
“Are you ready for a weekend of unadulterated fun?” Bryn asked. “Because that’s what I’ve carefully planned.”
“You planned?” Dani queried. “I’ll believe it when I experience it.”
Bryn’s phone buzzed and she swore loudly.
“You should turn it off,” Mia suggested.
“I can’t,” Bryn said. “I’m technically on duty.” She’d been saving all her vacations days for her upcoming honeymoon with Gray. They wanted to spend a month traveling the globe and spending quality time alone, as well as stopping in each quadrant to visit their friends.
“Workaholic,” Cerys remarked.
“Not when you love what you do,” Dani said.
Bryn glanced at the screen and groaned. Just as she feared, it was the agency. “Hey, Magic Robbie. What’s up?”
“I asked you not to call me that during business hours,” Robin said, but she could tell by his expression that he wasn’t that annoyed.
“Guess who I’m here with?” Bryn said. She held the phone out so that Robin could see her visitors.
Robin seemed momentarily tongue-tied. “I can’t believe it. How wonderful.”
The witches waved at the screen. “We miss you, Robin,” Cerys said.
“I don’t get the chance to miss him,” Bryn said. “We work together too often.”
“Speaking of work,” Robin said “There’s an incident that requires your immediate attention.”
Bryn frowned. “How immediate?”
“There’s a known criminal, a werebull named Luther, and we have it on good authority that he’s about to carry out a hit on the owner of Luxe. It’s the upscale home goods shop in downtown Starlight Springs.”
Bryn snorted. “Did you seriously just call to tell me there’s a bull in a china shop?”
“Indeed,” Robin replied. “As amusing as it seems, the matter can quickly escalate if someone doesn’t get there to intervene. A life is at stake.”
“Don’t get your cloak in a wad,” Bryn said. “I’ll take care of it.”
“Will you alert your partner or shall I?” Robin asked.
Bryn glanced at her friends. “No worries, Robbie. I’ll take care of it.” She slipped the phone back into her pocket.
Dani brandished her wand. “You mean we’ll take care of it.”
It was exactly the response Bryn expected. She knew she could always count on her friends.
“Just like old times?” Cerys asked, pulling out her wand.
Mia added her wand to the mix. “A werebull on a rampage? Count me in.”
Bryn’s lips curved into a smile. “I said I had a carefully planned weekend of fun, didn’t I?”
