“You wouldn’t,” she whispered.
He shrugged, and then winked.
A profound happiness burst inside her. Fairy tales did come true.
“Ready to get dressed and go see the preacher?” he whispered against her lips.
“Yes. Yes, I am.” Growing serious, she took his cheeks in her hands, gazed into his face. “My one and only dream is to be your wife. The mother of your child.”
“Ren,” he added.
“What?”
“Children. I plan to have several. All of them with you.”
She wrapped her legs around him, and tugged him close. “I love you, Marshal Cord Donavon.”
He grasped her face. “That’s for you to decide, too, darling.”
“I’ve already decided. I love you.”
“I love you, too, Florie.” He kissed her lips briefly. “And if there ever comes a time when you don’t want to be married to a lawman, tell me, and I’ll quit.”
“Quit?”
He nodded.
She shook her head. “I love the fact you’re a Marshal. It makes me feel safe, and—” her cheeks burned “—and law-abiding.”
“I’ll always make sure you’re safe, Florie, with every breath I take,” he whispered, kissing her again until she grew dizzy. Then he lifted her off the table. “Come on, my love.” He scooped her clothes off the floor. “Let’s go find that preacher before I have to arrest both of us.”
She ran a finger along his ribs. “Would we share the same cell?”
He pulled her to him. “Oh, you are going to be a handful, aren’t you?”
She shrugged, and he kissed her. Again and again and again.

Lauri Robinson’s chosen genre to write is western historical. When asked why, she says, “Because I know I wasn’t the only girl who wanted to grow up and marry Little Joe Cartwright.”
With a degree in early childhood education, Lauri has spent decades working in the non-profit field and claims once upon a time and happily ever after romance novels have always been a form of stress relief. When her husband suggested she write one, she took the challenge and has loved every minute of the journey.
Lauri lives in rural Minnesota where she and her husband spend every spare moment with their three grown sons and four grandchildren. She works part time, volunteers for several organizations, and is a diehard Elvis and NASCAR fan. Her favorite getaway location is the woods of northern Minnesota on the land homesteaded by her great-grandfather.
