Chapter One
Lexie Duvall eyed the cowboy from head to toe, her gaze caressing a rather broad set of shoulders, an impressive chest, and––she licked her lips––a mouthwatering package, if the bulge in his jeans was any indication. And that mocha skin, with those bright blue eyes…
Her pulse was racing, for sure. She certainly wouldn’t mind climbing on to see if she could ride for eight seconds. Hell, if he fucked as good as he looked, she’d keep riding past the buzzer, until neither one of them was coherent any longer. She’d be happy to fuck them both into a coma.
“Do you need a cigarette?” her friend Shelly asked, leaning in close.
She turned her attention away from tall, chocolate, and sexy. “No, why?”
Shelly shrugged. “As well as you just eye-fucked him, I figured you came, at least once.”
Lexie grinned and slugged her friend in the shoulder. “Smart ass.”
“His name is Drew Benson. He’s old man Benson’s grandson.” Shelly smirked. “Still find him hot, now that you know he’s related to the most ornery cuss that ever lived? I would imagine they’re a package deal.”
“I thought Carson Benson was old man Benson’s grandson.”
“They’re brothers. Only difference is their eyes. One has green, and one has blue.”
Lexie looked him over again, rolling Shelly’s words around in her mind.
“Who said I had to keep him? I just thought I’d enjoy him for a few hours and toss him back.”
Shelly laughed.
Lexie couldn’t help herself––she had to look again. She was drawn to him, couldn’t look away for longer than a minute or two. Carson Benson, she was familiar with, as she had run into him many times over the years. He was quiet, and yeah, she’d admit he was sexy too. But he didn’t get her motor going the way Drew did. She’d never seen Drew around town before, but then, she’d disappeared for two years, only returning a few weeks ago after the big city had chewed her up and spit her out. She’d busted her ass waiting tables, working as a barista, and doing anything else she could to make ends meet, but in the end, it hadn’t been enough. Slinking home with her tail tucked between her legs, she’d crashed on her mother’s couch until lucking into a trailer one week ago. It wasn’t much to look at, but it was home sweet home.
“Think he’s into curvy girls?” she asked Shelly.
Shelly snorted. “Honey, from what I’ve heard, he’s into anything with a pussy. He rides the rodeo circuit, and the buckle bunnies flock to him. No telling how long he’s in town for this time. I suppose, if you’re really looking for a quick ride to scratch an itch, he’d be ideal. He’s certainly the no-strings-attached type.”
Perfect.
Lexie fluffed her curly blonde hair, checked to make sure the girls were still behaving and hadn’t completely spilled out of her top––however, a little peek never hurt––then she sauntered over to one yummy Drew Benson. It was only neighborly to introduce herself, after all. She sidled up to him, brushing against his body to gain his attention. When he was focused on her, she gave him her slowest, sexiest smile, the one that had gotten her into more trouble than she’d like to remember, and laid her hand on his arm.
“Hey there, cowboy. You’re looking mighty lonely standing over here by yourself.”
His gaze traced her curves, of which there were plenty, and his eyes lit in appreciation.
“I suppose you’re offering to keep me company?” he asked, his Texas drawl sending shivers down her spine. Lord, but she loved a man with an accent.
“Word around town is that you’re old man Benson’s grandson. Thing is, you don’t sound like an Okie.”
His lips tipped up on one corner, as his eyes crinkled in merriment. “And what do I sound like?”
She bit her lip, looking up at him from under her lashes. A move she’d practiced for hours in front of the mirror as a teen.
“A hot, mouthwatering, Texas cowboy.”
“That right?”
“Mmhm.”
“I’ve spent a bit of time down there. Must have rubbed off on me.”
Can I rub off on you too? She ached to get her hands on him. This close to him, she could smell his cologne: A hint of patchouli, the tang of citrus. Whatever it was, it was intoxicating. She wanted to bury her nose in his throat and breathe him in all night. Preferably naked.
“What do you say we get out of here?” he asked.
Her heart kicked up a notch and she nodded eagerly. She waved to Shelly and looped her arm around Drew’s waist. They waded through the crowd together and headed out into the parking lot. She’d ridden with her friend, so she didn’t have to worry about leaving her car behind. His truck was parked in a darkened corner of the lot and he pinned her to the side of the vehicle, his mouth covering hers. The kiss was harsh and demanding, nothing like she’d thought it would be. One of his hands worked its way under her top to cup her breast, while the other popped the snap on her jeans and slithered inside.
This wasn’t going the way she’d planned – at all.
When he began pushing her jeans down, she tried to wriggle away from him. If he thought he was going to fuck her in the parking lot, he was sadly mistaken. Cowboy Casanova, he was not. Drew might look hot, but the man was sorely disappointing in the love department. She’d had more satisfying encounters in high school.
She pulled her lips away from his. “Drew, stop.”
“I thought you wanted this.”
“I wanted you. All of you. Naked. In a bed. Not pushed up against your truck in the parking lot.”
“You’re just a fucking tease.” His eyes narrowed. “I don’t take bar flies home with me.”
She felt her cheeks heat. “I don’t screw random men every night. I haven’t even been to the bar in over a week. My friend Shelly talked me into coming out tonight.”
“Honey, there’s only one kind of woman that propositions a man, and that’s what you did when you came up to me in the bar, acting bold as brass. All of your moves were as practiced as a two-dollar whore’s. If I’d thought for one minute any of what you said or did was genuine, this would have gone a little differently.”
“I’m a grown-ass woman, Drew. I see something I want and I go after it. There’s nothing wrong with that.”
“You know, I have women throw themselves at me in every town I go to. Did it ever occur to you that maybe for once I’d like to do the chasing?”
That made her pause and she looked at him, uncertain.
“You never would have noticed me,” she said.
He shook his head. “Honey, I noticed you the minute you walked in. Why do I think I claimed that seat at the bar? I noticed you looking, because I was doing plenty of looking myself. If you’d given me a little more time, I had planned to ask you to dance. Maybe bought you a drink or two, and then, if we’d hit it off, I’d have asked you back to my place.”
Her shoulders slumped and her head dropped.
She’d never been punished for going after what she wanted before. It didn’t seem right that it was happening now, but he was shutting her out for sure. The last time she’d been turned down was because of her size. As far as she was concerned, a size fourteen was just about right, but her curves seemed to be a turn-off for some men. Truthfully, she hadn’t put herself out there in a little while because she was still smarting over the rejection. Maybe she had laid it on a bit thick with Drew, but she’d just wanted him so damn bad.
He tipped her chin up.
“Why did you approach me?” His gaze searched hers. “What made you come to me instead of waiting to see if I’d come to you?”
“I couldn’t take my eyes off you.” She licked her lips. “I felt drawn to you, like there was some unseen force pulling me to your side. When I got close to you, all I wanted to do was burrow into you, close my eyes, and just breathe you in. I felt the heat of desire, but the warmth, of…I don’t know, something else. I wanted you, desperately. I’ve never wanted anyone the way I want you.”
His thumb caressed her jaw. “Now, wasn’t that much better than the fake act you pulled in the bar? I want a real woman in my bed, not some cheap slut that I can pick up anywhere. Why don’t we start over? My name’s Drew Benson.”
“I’m Lexie Duvall.”
He smiled. “Miss Lexie, would you like to go back to my place with me and have a drink?”
She nodded.
Drew helped her into the truck before walking around to the driver’s side. She admired his profile as he crossed in front of the pickup. The strong angles of his face should have made him look harsh and unforgiving, but to her he was just the sexiest man she’d ever seen. Drew slid into the truck and started the engine, giving Lexie a look that warmed her in all the right places.
They pulled out of the lot and headed back to his place.
Chapter Two
Drew’s place wasn’t quite what Lexie was expecting. He’d bought the old Cooper place off the highway just outside of town, and by the looks of things, had already started to make improvements. A fresh coat of paint shone brightly in the moonlight. The once pitted drive had fresh gravel. Whatever he did in the rodeo, it must pay well. She’d never paid much attention to the rodeo before, but maybe she should start. Obviously, Drew was good at what he did.
He’d left the door unlocked, as most people in Bryson Corners did, and pushed it open before he motioned for her to step inside. A lamp illuminated the living room, bathing a comfortable looking sofa and recliner in its soft glow. He’d recently painted, and the paint fumes still lingered in the air.
“Have a seat. I have beer or water.”
“A beer would be great,” she said with a smile. Now that he’d stripped away her hard exterior, that protective shell she’d earned the hard way in the city, she found that she needed the liquid courage.
Drew returned a moment later, two cold longnecks in his hand. He handed one to her before grabbing her hand and pulling her down onto the sofa beside him. There was a flutter of something in her stomach––nerves, maybe? She couldn’t remember the last time a guy had made her nervous. Then again, when was the last time she’d let a guy get to know the real her? Those practiced looks he didn’t seem to like had gotten her a lot of action over the years. She’d never met a guy who didn’t want a sultry sex kitten in his bed.
“You know, we don’t have to do anything,” he said. “Just because I brought you home with me doesn’t mean you have to sleep with me. We can just sit here and talk for a while.”
She shook her head. “I came here because I want you, Drew.”
“What exactly are you looking for, Lexie? Because I have to tell you, I’m in and out of town a lot with the rodeo. I haven’t had a steady girlfriend since high school. I’m not saying I’m incapable of having one…just that it isn’t practical. There’s a willing woman in every city, and I have to admit, I’ve sampled them all.”
“I’m not asking you to give up your freedom. I’m only asking for tonight.”
He shook his head. “You know what I thought when I saw you? I thought, there’s a woman worth staying home for, someone that could make me shake the road dust off my boots and settle down.” He grinned. “And then you opened your mouth.”
She twisted her bottle in her hands. “I don’t know that I’m the settling down type, Drew.”
“Why don’t we see where tonight takes us and find out? I have to hit the road day after tomorrow and I’ll be gone a few weeks. Spend tonight with me, and tomorrow. Then you can think things over while I’m gone. On the off-chance you decide you want to stick with me, I promise I won’t touch another woman while I’m gone.”
“Drew, I don’t have any right to ask that of you.”
“Yes, you do. Because I’m going to ask you not to touch another man while I’m gone. Three weeks. I think both of us can remain celibate that long. Then I’ll come home, we’ll go out to dinner and see where things stand.”
“All of this from you watching me across a bar?”
He smiled. “What can I say, you made an impression.”
“Tonight and tomorrow are yours. I’ll wait for you to come back to town. I haven’t been seeing anyone, and honestly, you’re the first man I’ve been tempted to go home with since I got back in town.”
“Then we’ll call this fate.”
She set her bottle down on the coffee table. “Drew. Kiss me. Like you mean it, this time.”
He set his bottle aside and pulled her into his arms. His mouth slanted over hers, his lips coaxing and caressing hers. There was gentleness in his kiss, a tenderness that had been lacking in the first kiss. Warm tingles ran down her spine and her nipples hardened in response to his expert kiss. She parted her lips and his tongue delved inside, tangling and entwining with hers. Heat suffused her from head to toe as she creamed her panties. This was how their first kiss should have been.
His fingers worked back and forth under the edge of her shirt as he teased her, his hand inching a little high with each pass. When his palm cupped her breast, his hand lightly caressing, she moaned, wanting more. He stroked the hard peak of her nipple through her bra and she pressed her breast against his hand, arching her back. It wasn’t enough.
Her fingers began unbuttoning his shirt, diving inside to feel the broad expanse of his chest. His skin was smooth and firm, his muscles flexing under her fingertips. His lips travelled across her jaw and down her neck, where he sucked the skin softly. Not hard enough to leave a mark, but just hard enough to make her pussy quiver.
“If you want me to stop, say so now,” he said. “I’m close to the point of no return.”
“All we’ve done is kiss.” Her voice was huskier than usual and trembled a bit, belying that it was a simple kiss.
“Honey, I’ve never had anyone light my fire the way you do. Once our clothes come off, I don’t think I can stop. I want you too badly.”
She pressed her lips to his. “Take me, Drew. Make me yours.”
That part of her that had reasoned this was just a one-night stand had been silenced by his kiss, and now her body was begging for more. She wasn’t sure one time would be enough. His touch ignited something deep within her––a part of herself she’d thought long since lost was now awakening. Her heart thrummed, pounding out his name, a tattoo in her chest. His scent surrounded her, enveloping her in its warmth and seduction. The man was magic, pure magic.
He rose to his feet and lifted her in his arms. Lexie threw her arms around his neck as he carried her up the stairs to his bedroom. The room lay in darkness, but he seemed to have no trouble seeing where they were going. He settled her on the bed and flicked on the lamp, bathing everything in a soft glow. The bed was neatly made, the blue plaid comforter tucked just so. Lexie couldn’t have said what else was in the room because she only had eyes for Drew.
He finished unbuttoning his shirt and let it fall to the floor. She watched in rapt fascination as he unbuckled his belt, slid it free of
his pants, and dropped it on top of his shirt. When he unfastened the button on his jeans, she sank to the floor on her knees before him, her hands reaching for him. She made quick work of his pants, tugging both them and his boxers down his legs. He kicked them away, and then she was on him, her hands curving around his hips, her mouth seeking out the long, hard shaft waving proudly in front of her face. He was masculine perfection, and she couldn’t wait to taste him.
Lexie licked the drop of pre-cum off the head of his cock before fitting her lips around him. She slowly sucked him into her mouth, her tongue stroking and teasing. When she’d taken as much as she could, she pulled away before swallowing him down again. His cock was wide and her lips stretched to accommodate him, but he felt like heaven in her mouth, and he tasted even better.
His fingers curled in her hair as he guided her along his length, fucking her mouth with long slow strokes. He groaned and his grip on her hair tightened a moment, then he was pulling her away and urging her to her feet. Before she could protest, he began stripping her clothes from her body, letting them fall to the floor one piece at a time, until she stood before him bare. He pulled her into his arms, slamming his mouth down on hers, kissing her with an urgency that she both felt and returned.
Turning the tables on him, she pushed him onto the bed and straddled him, taking him by surprise. She leaned forward and swirled her tongue around one of his nipples, making it come to a hard point before sucking it into her mouth. His hips lifted, his cock brushing against her.
“Condom?” she asked.
“Bedside drawer.”
She opened the drawer and pulled one out. Ripping the foil packet open, she rolled the latex down his shaft, then lifted herself over his cock and slowly slid down, taking all of him into her body. Lexie couldn’t remember the last time she’d felt so full, if ever. Thrusting her breasts out, she ground her hips against him, working them in a clockwise motion, then a figure eight.
