While her hand brought him the greatest of pleasure, the tight grip of her vaginal walls clenching around him made him see stars. Murphy’s head dropped back as Sable raised and lowered herself on him, her soft panting breaths soon becoming sweet cries.
Using his fingers, he found the swollen bud of her clit and stroked her in tune to the rhythm of her lovemaking. She was so hot, her slick texture enough to drive him crazy with wanting. Instead, he allowed her to keep her pace. Slow and languid.
They kissed and touched, her hands exploring the hair on his face and chest. Their mouths met, his tongue dueling with hers. He breathed in her air, drowning himself in her scent all over again.
Murphy kept circling her clit, not stopping until her pussy clenched around him in increasingly faster pulses. When her last cry became a sigh, he allowed himself to let go. One powerful spurt followed another and then another, as his entire inside seemed to empty into his mate.
They stayed connected when Sable rested her head on his shoulder. Her fingers lifted to brush over his mating mark. “We’re going to start a war and I don’t know what to do about it. And it’s selfish of me, but I can’t find the wherewithal to care. I just want to spend more time with you.”
He stroked still trembling hands down her back. In a low voice, he said, “And if I told you that there’ll be no war, would that help?”
“Of course. But my brothers…” She sighed, as if that explained her brothers.
“Love you. I promise you that. The bride price was a guarantee that your ex-fiancé would take care of you, even if you didn’t bear him children. They made him pay it because they were giving up their little sister and wanted her taken care of. The money’s being held in trust for you, untouchable by your ex.”
“What?”
“Talk to Cage and Cal. They went about it the wrong way, but they’ve only had your best interest in mind this entire time.”
A long silence passed where he didn’t think she’d respond. It would probably take some time to process and he could understand that. But he hoped she would talk to her brothers. He didn’t want her to have the same broken relationship with her family that he had with his. At least one of them should have ties.
“Thank you for telling me that,” she whispered, head still resting on his shoulder. She lifted it. “But why do you keep calling him my ex? For that matter, how did you end up here by yourself?”
“Well, once I made sure everybody got what they wanted in the end, we kind of went our separate ways.” Would he ever get tired of holding her? He didn’t think so.
“Explain, please.”
“I made a deal with Cage and with Voss. To your ex, I offered to repay the money he’d paid, in exchange for him allowing you to back out of the contract. And to your brother—”
“Murphy!”
“Shh.” He kissed her. “Don’t interrupt. To your brother, I offered another bride price to add to what he already had. You are now the proud owner of a very healthy trust account.”
She reared back, astonished. “And everyone agreed to that?”
“Four men who love you, each in their own way. We would have found a way to work it out eventually. I wouldn’t have walked away until we did.”
“I don’t know what to say…”
“Say that we’ll live together and get to know each other and allow me to kiss you and love on you until such time you’re ready to accept my mark.” His heart thundered as he said the words, but with excitement not fear. He savored the prospect of being allowed the luxury of doing any or all of those things with her.
“No.”
What?
“Murphy, I need you to mark me now because I can’t wait. I want a lifetime of kissing and loving on you and refuse to wonder if you’re ever going to do it. So you mark me now and—”
He kissed her lips. She opened them to him and he was tempted, so tempted to stay there and kiss them until they were swollen and plump. But her shoulder called to him, the spot where he’d leave his permanent mark. The one that connected them for the rest of their lives.
When he bit her, she cried out, the sound a wound to his soul. Afterward, when they made love beneath the stars a second time, he knew it would heal.
