“I assume Zane and the other low lifes you slum with now will be here in a minute. It’s good, I want you to watch how I rectify what you have caused. He stole my daughter and my drugs,” he says, pinning me with his glare.
“Your drugs? You’re fucking insane. They don’t tolerate drugs,” I yell.
The small shift of his eyes causes all the hair on my neck to stand. Fuck. It’s not how this was supposed to happen. He’s not supposed to be here.
My father grabs his gun and Zane doesn’t flinch behind me. He’s done everything for me. Protected me when he knew this is how it would end. I don’t even give it a second thought, I push Zane back and the bullet meant for him tears through my chest. The pain is immediate and my body drops.
I hear Zane scream, I feel his body on mine, but I can’t open my eyes.
“No babe, no,” he screams, the pain and tears clear in his voice.
I did it, baby. I took the bullet for you.
It all fades away.
