Mattie notices the expression on my face. “They have to give us access first. If they don’t, then we’ll know that they truly want to be alone. If you know what I’m saying...”
I purse my lips. “You really are a creep. I’m leaving. I’ll let Angelina know that I’m done with you, Humphrey.”
I go to leave, but then he grabs my arm, and electricity runs through my body. My eyes shoot up to his and I gasp.
His pupils catch me off guard. They’ve never looked so round, and now it’s like I’m drowning in his cloudy grays.
My mouth dries up, and I swallow.
“Please, Bryn... I think it would be a really good experience for us. I want to peer through my dragon’s eyes with you...”
I blink and my heart’s in my mouth. “S-sure... all right.”
Mattie steps back, and I wait for him to give me some instructions. “Well, what do I do? They don’t exactly teach you this in human schools...”
He grins, flashing me his perfect white teeth. “First, you close your eyes.”
“Well I could have figured that one out.”
I do as he says, and now all I see is black.
“Think about Brynmawr. As I think about Gwyneira. Then we will soon see a small point of light. It’s their souls...”
I let out a heavy sigh and focus on the void. Yet I don’t see my dragon’s soul.
“See anything yet?” he asks.
“No. You?”
“Well, yes. I have done this a thousand times, but I won’t connect to Gwyneira until you find Brynmawr.”
I grind my teeth and refocus my energy on the blackness, trying to pinpoint that dragon’s soul. I know he has a big one, so it shouldn’t be hard to find.
I still struggle and I start to panic.
Oh no... what if I can never find my dragon?
“Here.”
Mattie takes my shoulder next, and that electricity runs through my veins again. Now I gasp as a bright light fills my eyes.
It’s almost blinding, and I worry that I will lose my sight.
It’s Brynmawr’s soul and damn... it’s beautiful.
He does love daffodils after all. I’m not surprised his soul is so pure.
“You see it yet?” Mattie says.
Tears drip from my eyes. “I... I do...”
“It’s bright, isn’t it?”
I smile. “I guess Gwyneira’s not as cold as she comes across after all.”
Even though I can’t see him, I feel the sadness flickering across his face. “No. She’s a good dragon deep down. She’s almost been like a mother to me...”
My heart breaks. “I suppose she was the only mother figure you had.”
He takes a moment to respond. “Yeah...”
Silence drifts between us. All the while Mattie keeps his hand on my shoulder, and he squeezes his fingers, gripping me tightly, and it’s almost possessive.
He still wants me... just as much as I want him.
“Ready to look through our dragons’ eyes?”
I inhale a sharp breath. “Yes.”
“Okay. Reach out for the light, Bryn...”
I nod and do as he instructs, and that light takes over me now.
When I open my eyes again, I’m flying over lush, green hills, and I think I’m going to fall. But my strong wings keep me aloft.
This is not the world that I know. For one, it’s way more advanced... Colors are brighter and everything smells so much sharper. Also, I can see each individual sheep on the grass as my pupils zoom in on them, and now my stomach rumbles as I think about catching one.
“Why, hello, Bryn the human... “
I jump as Brynmawr’s voice echoes through my mind. It normally does since we talk telepathically, but now it’s like he is right inside me. Or more specifically I’m inside of him.
This is so weird.
“So, this is the world you see, Brynmawr?”
“Yes. Beats human eyes any day, right?”
“I guess. Where’s Gwyneira? Last I heard, you two went flying off together. Did she have anything to tell you?”
“We’ve talked. I know what you two discussed, Bryn. I can hear your thoughts after all.”
I squirm. “Yeah, sorry... I just wanted you to be happy again.”
He chuckles. “It’s fine. So long as you promise me you will reignite things with Matthew Humphrey. I see the way he looks at you. He’s... horny for you, Bryn...”
My cheeks turn bright pink, and I just thank god this conversation is only between Brynmawr and I. Well, I hope so.
Another dragon comes into view next, and a breath leaves my lips.
Through Brynmawr’s eyes, Gwyneira’s beauty has increased by a tenfold. Her scales almost seem to glow now like the moon, and my heart thumps. Well, not my heart, but my dragon’s.
My heart feels so much larger now.
I meet her breath-taking, blue eyes. Well, Brynmawr does, and even a blind man could see the raw passion that these two beasts have for one another.
“So, I’m assuming your rider has connected to you too, Gwyneira?”
My soul deflates when I hear the clipped tone Brynmawr uses. They are still acting so formal around each other, and I guess Mattie was wrong. They weren’t having hot dragon sex after all.
“Trust me, Bryn. If we were having sex, you’d know about it. As I said, the earth moves...”
Oh, right. Brynmawr can hear my thoughts. I forget.
“Yes. Matthew is here too...”
I gaze into Gwyneira’s blue eyes as she directs her thoughts toward Brynmawr, and I try to wave with my dragon’s clawed foot. It doesn’t work though.
But I know Mattie is behind those icy blues, and now it’s like all four of us are riding together.
As I said, we all just need to sit down and talk. Maybe then we can find some understanding.
“So, I’m guessing you’ve had a heart to heart with Matthew?” Brynmawr asks me.
I sigh. “I suppose we have.”
“Well, do you think you can win him over? Gwyneira told me the only reason she agreed to cooperate was because you promised her you could save Matthew.”
I smile. “I... I think I can... I saw something in his eyes...”
My dragon snickers. “As I said, he’s still horny for you.”
“Just as you are for Gwyneira...”
He growls inside my head. Well, his head.
“You can’t deny it, Brynmawr. Your heart thumps whenever you look at her...”
Even though I can’t see his expression, I know he’s snarling. “That’s it. No more peering through my eyes...”
I’m still laughing when he cuts off the connection, and now I open my real eyes once again, gazing around at the trees.
I suck in a breath when I look at Mattie. He smirks as he’s still connected to his dragon.
His eyes.
They’re the color of Gwyneira’s.
Chapter 30.
I glide through the clouds on Brynmawr’s back as Mattie rides Gwyneira beside us.
It was only a matter of time until we rode our dragons together, and now all four of us can have that heart to heart that I’ve been pining so much for.
We race several times, and Gwyneira and Mathew always beat us.
The two of them have been flying together for much longer after all, and I just thank goodness we’ve all joined forces now.
If they even fly better together than Brynmawr and I do, then I’m sure as hell they would have fought better together too.
We were prophesied to battle each other after all.
Though I do have an inkling Brynmawr keeps letting Gwyneira win on purpose because he loves her.
The big, old pansy... Or should I say daffodil.
I grind my teeth as Mattie shoots past me, placing his thumb on his nose as he wiggles his fingers, and now I speak to my dragon.
“Brynmawr, what are you doing? Stop letting that ice-queen win!”
“What are you
talking about? I’m not letting her win. Aerodynamics, Bryn. She’s smaller and slender. She will be faster.”
I roll my eyes. “Or maybe it’s because you’ve been pigging out the last few weeks and have gotten fatter.”
My dragon snaps. “How dare you! One thousand and five-hundred years I was fasting for, Bryn. Give a dragon a break.”
I snort. “Whatever... fatso...”
“That’s it.”
My laugh dies in my throat as my dragon zooms ahead, spinning around in the air like a bullet, and I grip onto his neck.
“Brynmawr!” I scream.
We whiz past Gwyneira and Matthew, and the latter almost falls off the dragon’s back.
The she-dragon roars. “Watch it, idiot!”
My dragon comes to a halt, stretching his bat wings out like a sail to catch the wind, and I hold on like a cartoon cat.
I think my whole life just flashed before my eyes...
Brynmawr chuckles, turning around to face the she-dragon now, and her blue eyes are like shards of glass. “Sorry there, Gwyn. Thought you were a cloud...”
She bares her fangs. “My rider almost fell.”
The Red Dragon shrugs. “What can I say? He shouldn’t have taunted my rider.”
“Bryn, restrain your dragon!” Matthew shouts over Gwyneira’s back.
I wince with embarrassment. “S-sorry! I called him fat and he got mad!”
Gwyneira laughs now, and the sound is as smooth as silk. “He always did hate it when I called him fat.”
We all break into laughter now, well, save for my dragon, who’s as bright red as... well, his scales.
“All of you, shut up!” he barks.
I wipe the tears from my eyes. They’re still streaming from the sudden G-force before.
It’s so surreal that we’re all up here in the heavens, laughing and joking like friends. In fact, it almost feels as if we’re on a double date, but I doubt it.
Mattie and I haven’t reclaimed our love, and neither have Brynmawr and Gwyneira.
We’re all just friends.
The White Dragon flaps forward, stopping beside her old, red lover, and all four of us watch each other for some time.
I meet Mattie’s gray eyes, and he won’t stop smiling.
“What?” I ask.
His smirk stretches to one side. “You look rather hot riding a dragon...”
Brynmawr groans. “Must you? I’m not some sexy prop for you to admire your girlfriend upon, Matthew Humphrey...”
“No, you’re too fat to be considered sexy...” Gwyneira replies and I cover my mouth.
We really do need to cut Brynmawr some slack. He was underground for centuries.
Brynmawr blows black smoke into her face, marring her perfect white scales. “You watch that tongue...”
She tapers those ice-cold orbs. “I would if I was actually speaking with my tongue. We’re dragons, Bryn. We talk telepathically.”
The Red Dragon blinks stupefied. “Yeah, well... it’s a figure of speech.”
I giggle, gazing down at that green patchwork quilt. We’re so far up, I’m surprised Mattie and I don’t suffocate from the high altitude.
“I think it’s time we headed back guys,” I announce.
Gwyneira scoffs, blowing smoke from her own nostrils. “Please, just so the women of Camelot can fawn over Bryn eating a cow? I think not.”
Brynmawr’s mouth curves into a sneer. “Do I sense a little jealously?”
The she-dragon hisses. “You shut your telepathic mouth!”
Matthew crawls over Gwyneira’s forehead, and now he peers down into her eyes. “He’s right, Gwyneira. You’re totally jealous. Just admit it.”
Those frosty blues fly up to Mattie next, and now Gwyneira turns cross-eyed as she tries to focus on her rider. “Don’t you start...”
The sun starts to set as it disappears over that soft sea of cloud, and now it paints everything orange. The light reflects off our dragons’ scales, and I just stare at those two magnificent beasts spellbound.
It’s like they’re glowing.
Brynmawr can’t take his eyes off Gwyneira, and Mattie won’t stop staring at me. My heart thumps, and I turn the color of my dragon. I’m pretty sure that white she-dragon glances down at her feet.
I never took her for the coy type. In fact, I’ve never been so coy myself...
We are with the men we love after all. They just bring out that shy, feminine side to us cold and snarky girls.
“No. Let’s stay out a little while longer. I know the perfect place where we can go...” Brynmawr says.
We all agree as the evening is just too beautiful, and now my dragon leads the way. He lowers to the ground, flying over lush green hills as sheep run for their lives. Who could blame them? Brynmawr’s depleted half of their population.
The Red Dragon flaps his wings as he flies in the direction of a large, rocky precipice, and I gasp when I spy that waterfall.
Every color of the rainbow shines inside its clear waters, and I’ve never seen anything so enchanting.
It’s definitely a magic waterfall. That’s for sure.
Our dragons land, and now Mattie and I slip to the ground as we gaze at that mystical waterfall.
This land sings with magic; I can feel it vibrating through my veins, and I never want to leave this peaceful realm.
Brynmawr exhales, stretching his wings. “Well, time to go, Gwyneira. Let’s give these two some much needed time alone for a while.”
I step forward. “Hey, you can’t just—”
“Agreed. Don’t want to intrude now.” The white she-dragon spreads her own silvery wings, and now those oversized lizards leave us alone by that beautiful fall.
I watch in disbelief until those dragons turn into dots, and now I groan, palming my face.
Whelp. Fantastic.
What are we supposed to do now?
I’m aware of Mattie’s probing, gray eyes.
“Well, I guess we’re stuck here, Humphrey. We have no other choice but to—”
I’m cut off next as he spins me around by the shoulders, throwing his lips to mine, and the breath leaves my lungs.
He curls his fingers through my hair as he yanks me closer, and now I’m trapped in his arms. I can’t move as I’m glued to his lips.
Soon I melt beneath his kiss, threading my fingers through his thick brown hair, and now a soft moan leaves my lips as he probes my mouth with his tongue.
Oh, God... How I’ve missed this...
His hard-on pokes me between the legs, and my panties are dripping wet now as my body yearns for his thrust.
Fuck... I’m so ready...
Mattie pulls away, gasping for air, and now I peer into those melted grays. “I... I never meant to take you by surprise, sorry. But just seeing you up there on your dragon... the sunset reflecting in your eyes...”
I press my fingers to his lips. “It’s fine. I’ve been dreaming of this moment since last Christmas.”
A smirk grows over that chiseled mouth. “I’ve been dreaming of this moment since the day we met, human...”
My eyes expand. Is he talking about what I think he’s talking about?
He runs a finger over my bottom lip, and I shiver. “Of course, If you’re not ready...”
My heart pounds as my body aches for his thrust once again. “No! I’m ready... so, so ready...”
Matthew Humphrey sneers, and now he scoops me up in his arms, throwing me down onto the grass. He kisses me up and down the neck as I start yanking off his shirt as he takes off my pants, and now I gaze upon that toned physique once more.
I run my hands over his hardened muscles, shivering when I graze those swollen abs (I could dry my laundry on these rock-hard abs).
Next, I place my hands over his pecs and his heart thumps beneath my palms.
There’s no doubt that it’s thumping for me.
I look into his stormy eyes again, and it’s like the clouds have cleared away at last.
“Well, you ready?” he whispers.
I nod and now he places himself on top of me. I try not to think about the oncoming pain.
I’m still a virgin after all. This will hurt like a bitch.
The head of his shaft breaks through the tight lips of my sex next as he slowly eases his way in, and I wince as a burning pain sets in.
Ouch! Fuck. He’s not exactly small either.
Unlucky me...
At least my walls are wet, or this would be a shit load more painful.
Those gray eyes don’t move away from my hazel, and I can see his confliction; he’s horny and desperate to find my sweet core, but at the same time he’s feeling guilty about hurting me.
Don’t be such a gentleman, Humphrey, and just fuck me...
Okay, I need to put the snark aside. This is my first time. It should be as magical as the rainbow waterfall behind us.
This moment is special after all. We need to capture it and freeze it in time.
The waterfall continues to crash into the rocks below as the world turns to twilight, and soon small lights emerge from the grass. They look like fireflies, but I know they’re just forest spirits.
I bet they’ve all come out to enjoy the show...
Oh, we’ll give them a show...
I brush a hand over the line of his jaw, absorbing his handsome face. I can’t believe how beautiful he really is, as if he was molded by angels.
And he’s all mine.
“Well, I’m going in...”
His hot breath tickles my face, and I bite on my lip. “Fuck me hard, Humphrey...”
Yeah, I couldn’t resist in the end. The snark always wins.
I’m not your typical, demure heroine.
Mattie chuckles. “What a way to ruin the moment...”
Without warning, he pushes himself further inside me, and now I gasp as his whole length fills my body.
My eyes roll back into my skull as I gaze up at that pink, twilight sky.
A shooting star goes past.
Mattie doesn’t stop. He thrusts again and again, and soon we build up momentum.
All the while, I don’t take my eyes away from the stars.
I feel as if I’m being split in half, sure, but at least I’m doing this with the man I love.
I wouldn’t have it any other way.
